Good video and very detailed information thanks!! I just bought the plugin and it replaced almost my whole vocal chain!
@Kanavesimeloni You're welcome! So glad to hear you got the plugin and it's working out well for you. Feel free to share your music in the comments section on any one of my videos. We'd love to hear your work! Thanks again!
Out here doing God’s work. Much appreciated, great vid!
@_B_E_A_D_G_C that's EXACTLY what I'm trying to do! Thank you for noticing, watching and taking time to leave this nice comment. I really appreciate it. ✌🏼❤️
I dunno i think the 500 series sounds bigger and better ,It sounds more "spacey" And its cheaper so i think i'll go with that. Seems easier to handle aswell
@Fishplants good choice! I rather have the fewer options and reliable, trademark sound myself. I sold mine for The Bus+ and miss it very much. For the 500 series models, make sure you get the made in the UK unit with the black face plate as seen in this video. The brushed metal version just sounds like the Bus+ to me (too clean).
@@LesVegasMusic Yes the bus+ feels a little overwhelming, I Ordered the black face plate :) Cant wait to try it out ! First analog gear ever so this will be interesting hehe
@Fishplants Congratulations! How much were you able to find one for? It was my first piece of analog gear too! Which 500 series chassis do you have? I wish you the best of luck with it!
@@LesVegasMusicThanks! I got it for around 1200, I bought a heritage audio ost-6 v2 and I'm am using the rme ucx 2 interface BUT I can't get it to work, I'm totally lost with rme totalmix 🫤
@Fishplants That's a good price. Good get! I'm sure the Heritage Audio 500 series rack is good. I've never owned any RME hardware or used their software so I'm not familiar with that. Wish I could help. Hit up their support team and see if they can walk you through how to setup your 500 series rack with your RME UCX. I don't think you should have to do much in their totalmix software though. Just make sure you're going out from your RME, into your 500 series rack and out from your 500 series rack to the inputs on your RME audio interface. Then make sure the routing is correct in your DAW. So for example, with the G COMP, install it in slots 1 and 2 closest to the handle on the left of your OST-6. Then connect Inputs 1 and 2 on the back of your OST-6 to Line Outputs 1 and 2 on the back of your RME interface. Then connect two cables from Line Inputs 1 and 2 on the front of your RME UCX and connect them to OUTPUT 1 and OUTPUT 2 on the back of your OST-6. Next, go into your daw, load up one stereo track with a stereo wav file on it and assign the output of that track to RME UCX 1 and 2 Out and the input to RME UCX 1 and 2 input. See if that gets the G COMP's needle moving. Also make sure the G COMP is in and not in bypass and crank up the input, ratio and threshold to get the needle rocking. That really should be all that's to it. Review your connections and let me know how it goes.
just turn on this preamp mod on sand3 and choose 5,6,7 or 8 option, this will create difference between right and left channel and you will hear this "wide" effect
God i wanna pan to the right 😝
The hardware has depth, and it tightens the snare. I like the SSL plugin best….because I own it. Most of the plugins darkened the snare
thanks for doing this. very very subtle differences with these settings. fastest release setting would have been more interesting to me. all plugs are useable. best to me was cytomic the glue and the HW ssl bus+, least fave IK and waves.
@thekeksthesheamusic you're welcome! And yes, the differences can be subtle. It also depends greatly on what the listener is listening on as to just how subtle the difference is. Thanks for watching and for taking the time to leave a comment. I really appreciate it!
Love the way you set this up with continues flow makes it so good to hear the difference! The Bus + won every time, it's just more viby and gluey. Considering getting one actually
@simmermusic3894 Yeah man! That's one of the reasons I started this channel. When I was getting into analog gear and watching KZread videos on gear, everyone would always play the songs straight through switching back and forth. But the problem for me was, I couldn't tell the differences when it was going from one section of the song to the next. So I just started buying the gear and doing my own tests looping one section. I find it to be the best way to truly hear the differences so, it's kind of my thing. 🙂 Thanks for watching and taking the time to leave a comment. I really appreciate it. Glad it helped! That's what I'm here for. ✌🏼❤️
A shame the hardware piece was discontinued around 2018ish? & everyone with the hardware piece will never give it up. Consider the 747sp a family inheritance.
@EastridgeAlumni You're probably right. But they do pop up every now and again. Just add it your feed on reverb.com and watch it for a while. Even if you never get one, it's just nice to know how often they show up and how much they're selling for.

Just a heads up ur video doesn't tell us which is analog and which is in the box. U just played the track. Don't know what ur were thinking if ur tryna compare because u didn't differentiate between the two test.
@thatruth1509 Yeah man, thanks for the feedback. It's something I wouldn't do today, but back when I made this video I thought it would be obvious since I labeled both the track names and the audio clips themselves. I figured when I was soloing the tracks, people would read the track and clip names of the track I was on to see which was which. I'm sorry about that. I appreciate you pointing that out.
@@LesVegasMusic when u watch the video the writing is too small to read. Impossoble to read what track ur on as we can't make out any titles.
@@thatruth1509 Or really? When I make the video full screen and turn on 1080 HD quality I can see it great here. I'll copy the track names below and pin it to the top of the comments now. Great video, thanks. This is how to do a shootout.
@teddym2808 Thanks man! I appreciate that!
Thank you for the great video :) do you think you could make the audio files available again? Thanks a lot!
the difference are negligible depends on what you like .
@marcusgarveyson Thank you for watching and sharing your thoughts. Good analysis.
Thanks for letting us hear them side by side. The Kazrog plug is amazing in it’s own right. After testing their free demo, it most certainly is on my “to buy list”. Hoping for a sale🤞🏻😊
Yeah man! It goes on sale often. It's actually on sale as we speak for $77 and that's the cheapest it's ever been offered at since it was announced at the 50% off intro pricing of $79 back on 8/19/23 - just to give you a point of reference.
Thanks
@user-oq4vt4xi4d You're very welcome! Thank you!
Can you use the insert with the mid/side in the depth \ width section?
The diference is thousand of dollars😂
What a video! Really shows the range of the distressor in great depth! Would love to know how you record your guitars? Both electric and acoustic sound phenomenal out the gate!
Damn the difference is very clear .i am getting this .thanks for a great demo
You're welcome! Excellent! I think it's a great value at its price point. It's a buy for sure. I wish you the best of luck with it.
hello master, I'm looking for a ssl g comp hardware with a mains power supply included, does this exist or does it necessarily require the power supply for a 500 rack?thks
it's like choosing a good microphone, you listen and you know...
you spent three and a half minutes trying to defend something that clearly sucks without additional tweaking, the entire point of hardware, i'm out dude lmao
@searchiemusic are you out on the Bus + and in on the G Comp, or out of hardware all together and sticking with a plugin? If so, which plugin do you like? This video was intended to be less about defending one unit or the other, and more about showing people how both units sound in case they're interested in buying one or the other.
Thanks, the hardware sounds lovely in all aspects. The plugins usually tick only a few of the boxes. I liked DMG's Trackcomp the best, with Cytomic and Softube second. AA Sand sounded weird. Could you do TimP L-Bus also?
Really great video, exactly what i wanted out of it!
@KillerFridge Oh, that's so good to hear. I'm glad it was helpful. Thanks for watching and taking the time to leave a message. I really appreciate it. I hope you have a good day! ✌🏼❤️
stop gating your mic, it's annoying
@rossjackson2455 Good ears! I have stopped since this video. Thank you for watching and for the feedback.
@@LesVegasMusic Nice one man! Fantastic content otherwise
How ridiculous U’re reading this commercial 🤢🤢🤮
@NoiseSHome What are you taking about? I own this EQ and I made this video so people can hear how it sounds. This is not a commercial, and I'm reading the script I wrote in my own words and voice so I can be as clear and concise as possible. I make absolutely zero dollars from this video. If you'd like to waste your time with others who don't write a script, fumble over their words, aren't sure of what they're talking about, and film all their errors then please do. If you want to hear gear and learn how it works with no BS, you can come here. But please check your vomit and negativity at the door.
@@LesVegasMusicsubscribed 🫱🏾🫲🏻 and will be buying
One of the best channel strips in the last 20yrs
@ReynaldolvanPena 💯. You know, I got my first one in 2005. I was 25 years old. I had to sell it because as an aspiring musician and producer, I didn't have any money to pay rent. I also didn't really know what I had at the time or how to use it properly. I actually did just fine with it just by using my ears, but technically, I didn't know much about it and hadn't yet developed an ear for compression. Ever since then, I always wanted another one. When I made this video is when I was finally able to get one again. Thanks to zZounds. I find myself using the 6176 and LA-610 MKII more often than my Neve 1073's, API's and SSL preamps purely based on its versatility and the large, "inflated" sound I can get from it. You know lately, I've actually been using it with a vintage Shure 588SA Hi-Z dynamic mic! I bought it for $35 on reverb.com. I'm finding the combination to be great for vintage sounding rock vocals. I just have a lot of fun with it. ✌🏼❤️
Is it me or are the demos left-heavy?
@infinaneek it's not you. The song is definitely left heavy. That's the way the song was mixed - that's quite common with rock. Not my mix by the way! 🙂
@@LesVegasMusic you as the """mastering engineer""" okayed a 5db slew to the left?
@@searchiemusicHi again! I didn't mix or master this song. The band was kind enough to let me use their mix with all mix bus processing removed for the audio demo portion of this video. However, I will say that in mixing or mastering, if the artist intended the mix to have more information on one side than the other at any given point in the song, then that's perfectly fine - just as long as it what was intended. Personally, I like balanced stereo information on the mixes and masters I do for my own songs.
The MKll sounded really nice on this. Gave it a smoother & more modern vibe
very amazing how uad, Acustica, and TR5 perform very close to the hardware, it's a very good video, thank you!
Imo, your SSL+ buss compressor is worth every penny. The openness, the width, the warmth, the gluey, the silkiness, the depth, the low-end tightness no plugin does it better than the real thing
@RANGDAP Yeah man. Thanks so much! Are you thinking of getting one?
@@LesVegasMusic Hi! I'm from the corner most part of India and from a low income family. But I like music. it's a special gift to me. I will have to settle with the plugin only and it's alright as long as I can create good music 😊
@@RANGDAP Absolutely. 💯 Which plugin do you like the best?
@@LesVegasMusic I'm planning to buy Softube Townhouse
@@RANGDAP Plugin Alliance Townhouse. Oh yeah. That's a good one. Especially for rock! Feel free to share your music here in the comments section anytime! I would love to hear it.
Gorgeous pice of kit. Thank you.
@davidmarais1048 Yeah man! It really is. I just just used it the other day on vocals with a vintage Shure 588SA Hi-Z dynamic microphone I bought on reverb.com for $35! Passed it through the 610 preamp and 1176 compressor. Great rock vocal sound! Thank you for watching and for your comment. I really appreciate it!
Fantastic video. Thank you very much. Clearly the hardware sounds best, I could pick it out every time in blind test. For an audio pro the price is definitely justifiable For amateurs, the UAD and softube and even the T Racks version sound pretty amazing and somewhat close to the hardware. There is something about the blooming of the low-end that no plugin can make happen.
I bought the plugin, and now i ve just bought the real one 😂. Can t wait to try it !!!!
Oh wow! Congratulations! I think you're really going to love it.
@@LesVegasMusic thx ! Sure. I ll leave a comment 😊
Original >PSP > WAVES SSL > UAD SSL G > SAND3, everything else sounds shit imo
@DubElementMusic Haha 😂. Thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts with us!
@@LesVegasMusic thank you for the comparsion! 👾
Okay so it is not quite as 3D awesome as the hardware... But it is really nice! Has the transformer about right ...does really well with the EQ bands... You did have oversampling turned way up right?
came for the gear talk, stayed for this absolutely massive dance tune. awesome work
@floor_baba Thanks so much! I really appreciate that. 🙌🏼
You get the most out of the summing units when you mix into them. You can hear the differences in this example but it is subtle. Better separation, wider, and the instruments seem to pop out of the speakers more with the summing box.
@Circharles Agree 100%. I ended up selling the Orbit, but wish I had given it more time. Now I'm interested in the Dangerous Music 2-BUS-XT.
This is how a product review is done. Subbed!!! Thank you sir.
@BritoWorx Thanks so much! I really appreciate that.
First off, this is a solid video! There was no bs and thank you for showing a number of different genres. With that, I’m looking for some advice, I’m looking at picking up the nseq or the ssl fusion. I do a lot of in the box, but I’m looking to build a mastering chain for hybrid work. Anyways, any advice? Thanks!
@ovid5424 Thank you! Yeah man, hybrid. That's the way to go and you're doing it right by looking at either the NSEQ or Fusion. Here's the thing I'll say, the SSL Fusion has more processing options right? So that's cool, and because of that, it has one up on the NSEQ. However, you can hear the Fusion and Ultra Violet EQ in my other videos at the links below. The quality of EQ is not even in the same ballpark. I mean, I like cars too so I'll use them as an analogy. I love BMW's, they're equal to SSL to me. SSL is the BMW of pro audio gear. Really nice. Really smooth. Really good handling. Really fun. But Millennia, well, to me they're like the Maybach or Rolls Royce of Pro Audio. Just ridiculously classy, sophisticated and unlike any other. Nothing can hold a candle to them and they do that on purpose by using the highest quality parts available without concern for pricing. They're both cars, and they'll both get you there, but which did you feel better behind the wheel of? For me, that's anything Millennia Media. If you could buy a used NSEQ for $2k (which I have, twice) or a Fusion for $2k, I'd say go with the NSEQ and get the Fusion plugins for $29 each. I mean, just listen to how close they are in the video below. Now, if the Fusion had a G Bus Compressor built in, that would be a tough call. I feel like in a hybrid setup there are no two better pieces of gear to get than a seriously good mastering grade EQ and stereo bus compressor. This is why I also like the Avalon VT-747sp as well. Stereo tube or solid state EQ and compressor all in one unit. This is why I sold my NSEQ and just got two Millennia STT-1's. Same EQ as the NSEQ, with optical bus compressors and de-esser all in one unit - plus pristine preamps! kzread.info/dash/bejne/o42Dqc99hNjTktY.htmlsi=h_cW6otXhwTbzV97
@@LesVegasMusic Thanks for the reply, Les! It was exactly what I was looking for. I'm gonna check out the video and keep an eye out for a used NSEQ. Seriously, thank you for the advice, which was exactly what I was looking for!
@ovid5424 You got it man. I wish you the very best of luck with it all! Keep me posted! Believe me, I'm as excited as you, for you to get it!
@ovid5424 and zZounds doesn't carry it so I don't make a $ from recommending it. I hope that just goes to show how much I love this s#it and want the best for others!
@@LesVegasMusic will do!
The difference seemed obvious, then I started closing my eyes. I realized the visual impact of seeing the beautiful hardware vs the tiny software gui was influencing what I thought I heard. They are pretty close!
@jetn8654 Oh yeah. Definitely. I'm glad you did that. That's why people like blind tests, but I figure if you want to do that, you could always just do what you did - close your eyes, click anywhere on the video and see if you can pick which is which. But only after learning what the hardware sounds like. That's what I don't like about blind tests. How are you suppose to be able to pick which is which when you've never heard the hardware before? 🙂 In blind tests, I always just end up picking whichever I prefer anyway. Sometimes it's the hardware, and sometimes it's the plugin! In any case, you should always use what you prefer and you can definitely get incredible mixes 100% in the box today. That's undeniable.
Softube needs a Soft Knee setting at around 12 o'clock, the Hardware SSL is a soft knee compressor. Idk why Softube's default preset has soft knee at 0.
Aah. I know what you mean. The thing is though, with the Softube compressor, they're not claiming it to be a 1-1 emulation of the SSL G Bus Compressor. They're claiming it to be like one, plus more. So, they're giving you the option to have a knee, or not. Along with other things... I rather just have a G COMP 500 Series and be done with it. I think if I sold all my SSL G Comp plugin licenses, I'd be half way there towards to cost of one anyway! 🙂
@@LesVegasMusic Sure, but it's still a weird choice to have the Default Preset value for Soft Knee at 0 and not halfway up at 5.
does it beat the Drawmer 1978, considering the Distressor has no sidechain?
I didn't understand a single term you used but I so want this unit. zZsounds is awesome, I purchased my apollo 8 and Townsend mic on payment plan with them. The gap between novice and pro in the recording world is too extreme. Some people like myself just cannot grasp sound processing but we still love recording.
drums sounds amazing and huge through this thing
Finally someone who explains it in detail. Can you use compressor and limiter at the same time? It doesn’t sound like it would make sense. Thanks
@turtlefeet7722 Thanks! Well, it's all compression. But once you're limiting, you're at the maximum, or the limit of compression. 🙂
Thanks man, great channel. Does the compressor/attack release ratio affect the limiting section? How is the signal chain anyway? My digital plugin limiter has only gain knob and ceiling knob and compressor the typical ratio, threshold attack/release etc. knobs. When I send the compressed signal to my limiter to increase after compression the overall volume seems to be different here if I only have one gain knob.
Yes, based off this review and feature set I want to add it to my collection but it's $8700 au. But, when it came on the market it was $6500 au. So it's probably worth wait for the market price to come down.
@WhiteHeat-yd6zm Yeah! The only thing I'd say is the price went up after COVID when parts became harder to get and it never came back down. So, perhaps look for a used unit? I have a feeling the price for a new unit is going to stay the same for a while.
The G-Comp had a lot more character in the low mids in comparison and sounded more aggressive. The Bus+ was a much more cohesive and smoother compression with a more neutral color over the pre-master eq.
Yes, yes you can hear the difference. I normally struggle to hear a difference but even the level-matched examples were night and day. What a stunning device.
@user-eb3hz8mg2y Yeah man! I always struggled to hear the difference when audio comparisons were not level matched - it's only when I started to make my own audio demos and level matched them when I could easily hear the differences.
