I made two different comments to inquiries regarding Stella that were straight forward and nonjudgmental - you seem to have deleted both, for that reason I am unsubscribing, which is a shame because I've been a subscriber for a long time.I don't need that energy and it's clear you're not interested in my demographic anyway.

I too was surprised to see that Stella has apparently been replaced by Mike. In all likelihood if it was an amicable departure, her leaving would have been explained and the videos that she did for this channel would still be listed. I wish her well and Mike seems to be up to the challenge, doing a good job in his first two videos.

Stella brought up wanting to see more diversity and inclusivity on trail and the audience went all crazy. Producers weren’t ready to take that on, I guess. Stay safe, talk about gear, just not guns or boots versus trail runners.

I live in a poor country with a lot of jungle, and believe me, nobody stinks. It’s easy to stay clean - rinse off whenever you can, air out your clothes, and if you want, carry a mini-deodorant. There’s no harm or bother. Embrace a bit of good honest sweat, but there’s no reason to reek. (I’m not criticizing, this is a great video, just my sweet-smelling opinion.)

I have/had major foot issues. I ran marathons from the late 1980's until around 2,000. I started have the foot issues about that time and I tried everything, especially orthotics. Orthotics suck; all of them. I was on vacations and saw a guy with a pair of weird as hell looking shoes. After talking to him, I bought a pair that day. After a few years of not running, I was back on the road. Now that I love hiking, I like Altras and Hoka's, but the one shoe that supports, cushions, and protects my feet the best are Hoka Stinson's. They have a high stack height, so on rough trails I have to be cognizant of my foot placement. It's truly not much of an issue anymore now that I've gotten used to them. The Stinson's are harder to find than Speedgoats, but they are a step up in every way! I like the Altra Olympus a lot, but Altra needs to step up the quality as to how long their shoes last on trail. It sucks to wear a shoe that falls apart so quickly.

I gave up on boots over breathable trail runners years ago. I would constantly role my ankles with boots since they don't allow the foot to naturally flex when going over uneven surfaces. The trail runners are good for all terrain including snow fields and river crossings.

I have definitely found tent footprints to be pretty useless. Haven't used one in years, noticed no wear on my tent floor. You don't need it lol. As far as waterproofing, I ditched my pack cover and switched to a roll top waterproof pack liner from osprey which works awesome. Going on its third year and has yet to leak.

Will always choose to buy goretex for the customer protection they offer. But note: waterproof shoes are horrible as everyday shoes, it's a stinky toasty oven in there if used as everyday shoes.

I think it’s best to classify these into 3 categories. Filters, Sterilizers and Purifiers. The Steri-Pen isn’t a filter at all so we can’t put it into that category, nor is boiling the water or using water tablets. Those are Sterilizers. They may kill microbes and viruses but do nothing to remove poisons, metals or contaminates that impact taste. Most filters can remove some particulates and all bacteria which will cover 99% of most peoples needs. Purifiers will remove almost everything from the water. These are great when you are in the worst conditions. Regardless of which method you use, all can benefit from a pre-filter of some sort (cloth or something like that) which can help remove the largest particulates and some cloudiness which can improve the lifespan of your filters and purifiers and improve the effectiveness and experience of using a sterilizer.

People get obsessed with pack weight. It doesn’t really matter that much as long as you dont go extreme. If your whole kit weighs 20 or 30 or 40 just do your day hikes with that weight. Your body will adapt to the weight. My pack with 10 days of food weighs just over 30 pounds. I day hike 6 to 9 miles 5 to 6 days a week. Yes 160 miles a month. The weight of my pack never crosses my mind. Its a breeze to carry. If I was doing a long thru hike I would look at maybe some ultralight pieces of gear. Take what you have. If its too heavy for you find ways to reduce it a little at a time. Just go have fun.

I have the JetBoil: Flash, Sumo and Mini-mo. I use the Mini-Mo burner with the Flash pot in my 2-person camping kit and the Mini-Mo pot and Flash burner in my solo kit. Solo, I only boil water but I want a low and wide pot for my dog to clean the pot. Dual person I generally use the Jetboil to boil water but it must be a back-up stove so carry the Mini-mo with simmer. Regardless,I LOVE Jetboil.

Was pitching a tent on a dust track that will turn into standing pools and soon after a quagmire with human activity around it really the best option? An area with ground vegetation to soak up some or all of the rain would have made life lot more pleasant. Where to pitch is the primary decision ang getting it wrong can lead to a world of pain.

Hip belt should hug the hip, not sit above. 80% at least of the weight. Mine hold 90+%. Shoulder straps are there to prevent it from falling backwards or shifting from left to right. I have them angled like the top straps so the ventilation is max. My shoulder straps often move around. No sweat there. When walking down hill, release the top straps so the pack moves backwards. Uphill, pull it in close.

As a person from a region full of delicious cuisine. The worst camping meal I had was instant noodles. Choose one from Japan, Korea, or China, and add vegetables (prep some freezer-mixed veggies at home and bring them on the trail); add one egg or sausage. If it is one night, I will also bring hotpot meat and freeze it down to add proteins...the better one is curry rice with real chicken(pre-cooked at home if you want to preserve it longer). If the condition is not good or it is a long distance, I will bring sausage for protein, not the fresh one sold in the fridge, but the one processed like the Spam and can eat right away ( or maybe that is an Asian-only thing?) Also, if I bring enough rice, I'll also bring some Chinese sausage along. It is a"dry sausage," so it does not require much preservation in the field. This sausage combined with rice can create a great "clay pot rice," but with an aluminum pot, of course. I tried those bagged dry foods from the US and my country(Asian style), and they both tasted bad. Especially after a day of long outdoor activities, I want something that tastes good to freshen my mouth. Some of the luxury type food I ate during my backpacking trip was hotpot/Shabu-shabu. I tried it on a cold, rainy night, and it warmed me the entire night. Once, we hiked as a group and actually made the Chinese-style BBQ in a desert hike, which is the one that strings meat dice on a wooden stick and places it above the fire. It was crazy heavy, but we had much fun that night.

To all new hikers: Don't listen to this bs guide. Seriously, recommending to new hikers to ditch the powerbank? Say someone runs out of battery in their headlamp or their phone and lose their way, wtf are they going to do? die? Powerbank is one of the most essential things. And as for footprint imo it is necessary. Its just ~200grams and it: a) protects the bottom of your tent from tearing b) keep it clean in case of muddy terrain c) and most important, it creates an essential extra barrier to humidity, making the tent more waterproof and preventing the floor to freeze, therefore increasing the R rating of your sleeping pad. Plus not everyone has a super expensive tent that's 100% waterproof and if a tent leaks, it usually leaks from the floor. So, if i have to chose between carrying some extra grams and be sure my tent wont be destroyed/leak and to make sure i always have battery on my phone/headlamp, i know what i should do

What a horrible video. Only about 2 minutes in and you've already demonstrated you don't know squat. A: You divided the products into "filters" (no virus protection) and "purifiers" (virus protection) and then promptly put the Steripen into the filter category. The Steripen definitely does NOT filter and it DOES provide virus protection. The double whammy of wrong. B: You claim that the Rapid Pure system is Ok to freeze, yet the Rapid Pure web site says it compromises the virus protection portion of the filter. Did not continue from there. Bad info.
