In the early 1980's Super 8 sound film cost the equivalent in today's values of close to NZD$50.00 for a three and a half minute Kodak 50 foot film cartridge and with the added expense of a good quality sound camera, projector & editor, splicer & splices this was not the cheapest of hobbies. But I am pleased that my own early 1980's films are now, after all these years, available to a wider and hopefully appreciative audience.

Thanks for posting. This surprised me - up until now I did not know that the Flyer ventured off the Kingston-Lumsden section during that time. Was it for a special occasion?
Thank you. After the Kingston line was closed due to flood damage the "Flyer" ran regularly for two years during the summer season to Wairio and Bluff including annual trips to Balclutha. It was at the insistance of the National MP for Invercargill, Norman Jones, that the ""Flyer" stay in Southland. Had it left we probably wouldn't have gotten it back.
The cars have yellow number plates, so as the event is held in January it could be no later than 1964. On a second viewing I can see a couple of the car shave red registration stickers so it has to be 1962.
Brought back lovely memories for me, as, I used to live on the South Road, myself
Excellent shot. Like me !!!
Awesome video of an awesome locomotive, thanks for uploading, thoroughly enjoyed!
I used to be a fireman on the Kingston Flyer , still enjoy this .

After her jaunt with Ja 1250 during rail 125, looks like 1989 was a year for 1211 doing a solo tour of the south island, this is a fantastic video to watch, thankyou for posting.

Why are the driver's not in uniform??? Maybe weekday employees?
Can’t give you a date but it was many years later that uniforms appeared. This would probably have been a weekend with #11 running.
