Oftentimes loggers on the West coast (of the US) would put 44" or 40" handles on thier Puget Sound pattern double bits. This axe reminds me of a Puget Sound minus the 2nd bit, very long and narrow.

The Rinaldi axes are liked in South America, trade axes. So they can make a handle in the wild. Not like us! And they will use the head and a knife or machete to make a new one! The small ones are great camp axes. Instead of whacking a expensive knife. Right tool for the job. Even the caveman understood that! That Muller bits deep! Very nice.

I picked one of their hewing axes, and i am well happy with it. I have been looking for one of the universal ones, it would be a great tenoning axe! Their axes a good, they leave the edge for the customer to finish how they want it. Cuts costs down. Just like husqvarna!

I have quite a few axes, some with 35-36” handles. What I have more of is chainsaws. I have used an axe since I was a boy. I take an axe with me when I cut with a chainsaw, usually one of my Boy’s axes - I have several. My favorite cutting axe is my 50 me on a tree cutting job.year old 4# True Temper with a 31” handle. However, I can still cut with one of my longer handled axes if I desire. I don’t worry about hitting the ground. Like my chainsaws - if I dull out an axe or chainsaw I just grab another one. I do not cut with dull chainsaws or axes. This is why I carry four chainsaws and two axes with

Hi Ben, I live in UK and need to replace a couple of axe handles for a few vintage axes I got from Ebay. The axes are mainly for splitting wood for firewood and are around 4lb. One plumb and one HB. Could you suggest a few places in UK to buy the handles without breaking the bank? I can thin them and modify a bit to my liking. I've tried ebay and the handles I received are total rubbish! Thanks

Just been out camping and realized my little Hultafors was simply too inadequate for my needs, Australian Kari and Jarra sucks lol. Then a combo of pine too. Torn between a Muller American Felling or an Adler Rheinland, one of these should have a bit more heft than my current solution, either that or maybe get a Corona hand saw or something, they reviewed well on Project Farm

Axes ARE obsolete though. They don't have any use that other tools don't do better. If you need to split wood, a Maul is better suited. It takes far less energy to split wood with a maul than with a regular axe. If you need to fell trees, chainsaws or handsaws are better. If you need to trim branches? Bow saws and tree trimming saws are better, as well as branch clippers for small branches. And if you need to cut a big root? A Pulaski is a better tool because it also has a digging head. The only kind of axe that still has practical use is a hand hatchet for splitting kindling. I grew up in the mountains splitting wood as my main chore as a kid. I would rather use a maul than an axe to do that job any day of the week. I can't think of any outdoor job that I would rather do with an axe. It's an antique tool that is leftover from times when metal tools were expensive and so it made sense to have a single tool that could be sharpened by hand and could fell trees and cut roots and chop wood. But nowadays tools are so affordable that there are specialized tools that do every job an axe was meant to do: but they do those jobs better.
