New Moon Ranch

New Moon Ranch

Hello friends and neighbors!

My wife Amie and I purchased this historic Ogden Valley Utah century old dairy farm in late summer of 2022. We're in the process of reconditioning the barns and outbuildings into a functional operation. Our hopes and dreams are to turn the upper 2.5 acres into a landscaping tree and bush farm to serve our local communities.

Please join along as we figure this whole thing out!

Jeremy & Amie

  • @NewMoonRanch
    @NewMoonRanchАй бұрын

    Hi! I’d say this one is pretty sturdy. When full of grass it hasn’t had any difficulty. Structurally that is. The part you might concern yourself with is the base fabric/plastic and stitching. The more it has to drag across the surface of your yard or terrain, bearing more weight, it might not last as long as you’d like. If you can, go down and see one in person before buying. 👍🏻

    OK, got a question. On the John Deere 400 I just bought. The previous owner had it rebuilt and has been using 15 W 50 oil in it comments? He was told by the builder that he should run that oil in it but I’ve never seen a small engine run that heavy. Looking forward advice on maybe switching back to 30 weight oil Thanks

  • @NewMoonRanch
    @NewMoonRanchАй бұрын

    Hi there! So sorry for the delayed response! I’ll shoot ya straight here: While I have some opinions about oil weights, I’m not the best one to ask this to! I’m sure it’s been discussed extensively on all the tractor forums by guys that have been running these things for years! I, on the other hand, have only managed to blow up my 400’s Kohler engine! And must rebuild this one as well! 🤦🏼‍♂️

    Question I have seen one for sale near where I live and was wanting to know is the maintenance on the 400 more meticulous on this mower than a heavy duty Craftsman's in this year range this year or about the same.

  • @NewMoonRanch
    @NewMoonRanch2 ай бұрын

    Whooo! 🥵 I wish I could tell ya! I don’t have any experience with them. But my basic knowledge tells me that a John Deere might take some maintenance, but every component is probably far and away better constructed and more durable, and should last longer, than some of the lesser brand models (of the same vintage). Probably better ask someone more in the know! But having a timeless John Deere is not something you’ll ever regret, because they simply aren’t making these any more!

    I like the videos the random things are cool. But I do enjoy the garden tractors and the farm stuff! I've got a 1978 316K john deere the one year only 316 with a single cylinder kohler it's a glorified 300. I dig this style machine and I picked it up non running to be my mowing machine and slowly fix up. My other machines are a Case 222 I repowered and made into my snow pusher, trailer puller all around working machine. I did also just get a Cub Cadet 124 along with a parts machine for it. No real reason for having the Cubs but they are cool might someday be a replacement for my Case 222 which was a cobbled up and worn out machine when I got it. All that being said I'm a John Deere guy more then any other brand I'm finding out lol

    That’s awesome! And thanks a lot for participating! I’d not turn down any Cub Cadets. I’d probably look to add just one stout rare one to the collection one day. And a Case too! Whenever I see unique ones, like vintage Wheelhorse or others, I definitely want to nab them! I’ll always be a Deere guy too, but there’s so much history and much to enjoy about all the other yard tractors!

    Love the deere content man. I got a 140H3 due to your video when you first picked it up and then i got into the 400 series when you got the 400. I have now grown my collection really fast. I has a 318, 332, 400 with tiller, deck and snowblower, 420 with loader, 420 with mower deck, 430, 140H3 and 110RF. I enjoy the videos about them but it seems like you have other priorities. But I’m STRONGLY in favor of keeping things original and period specific on these vintage things. The original engine, while a costly affair to rebuild I’m sure, is nearly 1/2 of the tractor! It’s heart and soul! And it’s charm! I’d hate to throw nearly any other new power plant in her, unless it was my last option. I’d rather just go buy a new JD mower!
