    I am not sure about it's longevity, this was my first experience with it. UV is used as a method of identifying this wood vs others that look the same under regular light, so I'm thinking it doesn't go away. Certain finishes probably affect it.

    Any Sissy can cheat. A real man blows his back , just to be manly 😂. Really this is a simple great idea. I've used the winch method hooked to a hydraulic arm. This is much better than all of that crap. I had a Harbor Freight pickup bed crane made so it would swivel over the cant , but using both the hand winch , and hydrolic hand pump didn't work as well as this.

    Like Brian, I use a lifting strap wrapped around the log/cant and hook the eye on one end to a chain hoist hanging from an overhead beam (inside a shop). But your method is great for outdoors. Thanks for sharing .

    Did you build it? If so why fixed arch instead of swinging arch? I'm about to build one for my dump trailer. Not sure which route I'm gonna go yet

  • @zachb9976
    @zachb99762 жыл бұрын

    I've not ran a swinging one, but from what I've seen of them, I went with a fixed arch. Swinging requires you to inch worm the log forward constantly rerigging it. My setup allows me to grab a log out as far as the cable can reach, once the nose is set on the trailer, I move the tongs down the log and scoot it all the way onto the trailer. 4000 lb winch has no trouble doing this, so no need for that added leverage of the swinging arch. Since your trailer is taller, be sure to have the arch flush with the back of the trailer, or even set back 6" to a foot, that helps get the nose onto the deck instead of ramming the nose into the back of the trailer. My setup also allows me to pull from the side when needed. I don't have to back up perfectly to the logs.

    I have a dovetail trailer and can’t seem to find a build on here with one. I’m wondering how tall the arch needs to be and can I go shorter because of the dovetail? Maybe save some time and money and just fab a ramp or guide with smooth surface and winch right on or off of a log jack?

    Instead of winching, try rolling the log arch over the log stoping the wheels short of chain raise the front toung in the air to let the cross bar down onto the log. Hook chain on cross bar and then with a roap pull the toung down to the log. I think this way could be faster than the winch. Some 4-wheeler log arch work that way.

  • @zachb9976
    @zachb99763 жыл бұрын

    Have you actually done this method? Every time I've seen it done it's with dainty sized logs and the arch hitches directly to the vehicle pulling it. I've tried this method and it's near impossible to pull the tongue down without finding something to chock the tires with. That method also doesn't lift high enough, so it would be difficult to pass through ditches and uneven terrain. With the log being my tongue, I need them cinched up tight to the arch, otherwise the arch "wanders" as it rolls over rocks and then I have a hard time keeping it between the trees in tight places.

    @@zachb9976 I have used one like that a couple of times and it worked great. It took a few times to get use to it. l used it in yards to remove storm down trees. The largest log was a white oak 28" by 12'. That was a 2 man pull down. Make shure to use a long rope where the toung won't hit you. I stood at the end of the log. I think the arch I used a logright log arch. Thay have UT videos

    How does it do with leaves?

  • @zachb9976
    @zachb99763 жыл бұрын

    It grabs them while it grabs sticks and pine straw, but it doesn't do well for just leaves, especially on a lawn. If there is any dampness to the ground, the tines pull out grass plants, so you cannot make multiple passes.

    @@zachb9976 I am actually wondering if the rake (of the rake itself) by adjusting (shortening) the top link, being changed would make it so it doesn't dig as hard for grass. The only caveat to that would be the ends that are more forward would dig harder and perhaps not let the center even dig in at all. I just ordered this rake, so I will certainlt try some things out with it.

    Thank you for making this video. I've been trying to decide between pine straw rake and landscape rake. I have the same firewood debris that you have in your video but also want to clean up after bush hogging pasture, clean up leaves, grass, limbs. Wasn't sure if pine straw rake was heavy enough for some and landscape was to heavy for some. I think I'll start with the pine straw rake with what you were able to do. Which one did you purchase?
