    Well, for those of you who are most familiar with Ahead drumsticks, I finally am interested in trying a pair. Who might be able to direct me as to what pair closest matches the Vic Firth Buddy Rich sticks? I love those sticks and I've used them exclusively for the past 15 years. I still have all my old ones, which amounts to approximately 50 pairs or more. Time for a change. Time for no more digs or splits on the sticks. I think I like the idea of the replaceable parts on the Ahead sticks. What do you think?!

    I've been drumming for over 50 yrs. I've used Regal Tips since they came out in the 70's. Also Promarks, but when the Aheads came out I fell in love. The shock absorption feature, to me, far outweighs any perceived sound differences. Plus, the light weight made complicated ride patterns, (a'la Neil Peart), seem easier because of the bounce. Love them. Oh, and I just replaced my 2nd sleeve after almost 30 years. They also come in a 2B for outdoor arenas. Well worth the cost.

    Been using AHEAD sticks for quite some time now. Several years. I have a few models but mostly use the Tommy Lee studio model. I love them. The only thing I don't care for is the sound (of really any AHEAD model) on the ride. There's just something about the sound of a wood stick on a ride cymbal that AHEAD just can't get. They made softer "wood-like" tips that you can get but it's still not quite there in my opinion. Perhaps they'll continue to develop their tip options? Otherwise, AHEADS are awesome. The feel and weight are excellent, for me anyway. Plus, the shock absorption is a huge plus.

  • @jasonmartin8471
    @jasonmartin84713 жыл бұрын

    @Drum Gunner Yes. I think what it is is more the fact that the AHEADS are overall louder than a wood stick. That's part of their design though. More volume with less effort.

  • @jasonmartin8471
    @jasonmartin84713 жыл бұрын

    @Drum Gunner I use the Tommy Lee studio lol. Those things are super front heavy so it give a good loud sound. I've been wanting to try the 7A's for a while now. How do they compare to a 7A wood?

  • @jasonmartin8471
    @jasonmartin84713 жыл бұрын

    @Drum Gunner That's what I love about the Tommy Lee stick. The weight and the length are perfect and I totally understand what you're saying about just kind of riding the rebound that you get from AHEAD. I've found that the Vic Firth Vinny Paul signature model is pretty close to the Tommy Lee's. So I do believe that you can find comparable wood models to any AHEAD model. But of course you lose out on all the other benefits of AHEAD. (Shock absorption, longevity etc etc). But yeah you definitely pay for the AHEADS lol. However, in my stick bag I only have AHEAD. I have 2 pair of the TL studio, 1 pair of TL concert, 5A, and 5B light rock. But, in all these years I've only used the same pair of TL studios haha. I just change the covers once every 6-8 months or so and I'm good to go. If I'm in a volume sensitive situation I may grab the 5A or 5B but usually I stay with my go-to TL studio. It's all in the stick height really, but having different models of AHEADS gives you different feels and indeed sounds. On the ride, the 5A sound way more focused than the TL.

    Because diecast hoops DON’T sound as different as you think. Any differences are minute and diecast hoops are capable of much more accurate tuning that STAYS in tune for longer than triple flanged over a longer period of time. I prefer diecast hoops for a variety of reasons. I guess to each their own.
