  In the original version, they would actually show the small portion of the ending movie where the mansion explodes if you fail to escape on time. Followed by the game over screen.

  Why would they make pre-rended cutscenes rendered 4:3 while the ps2 is rendered letterbox 16:9/16:9?

  It's likely that's actually how the FMV is internally. I ripped from another game before and the FMVs are just like that where they only get corrected in-game to a 360 or stretched 480 resolution. Of course the collection being what it is, failed to port that behavior over or to make it account for 720.
