    @@outdoordyn Are all the styles rat tail tang? In the Caribbean we use full tang machetes and they take a lot of abuse from chopping, cutting, batoning etc. Not sure how well the rat tail style will hold up. Teh blades themselves look solid but concerned about the handle breaking or coming off with hard use.

  • @outdoordyn
    @outdoordyn Жыл бұрын

    @@us24575 no worries there, the blade is pinned to the handle, if it were to work loose, the blade will never come off the handle. even if the blade gets loose, send it back to us for a replacement, they have a lifetime warranty on them. as for handles breaking, we have had only one case where the handle cracked , out of many thousands we have produced since 2014.

    I love the 10". It's the one I bring on extended hikes where weight is an issue but I still want some chopping capability along with other functions. It replaced a somewhat short and lighter parang that I have in a different style because it's just more versatile. However - I also have the 12" heavy version (which actually got sent to me by a mistake but I decided to keep it anyway) - in terms of chopping and just generally breaking things, that thing is an utter beast. The power of the added weight is just merciless - but can wear you out a bit as well because it's balanced in a more front heavy way ...

    Makes a difference when you cut at a angle! Shows how well it cuts. Hitting timber straight on just compressors the gibres of the wood.

    The Duku chopped through the 2x4 in 16 strikes over the Golok’s 42. The forward weight of the Duku, as in an axe, seems to be better for chopping.

    How long is cutting edge? Anyone know?

  • @whynottalklikeapirat
    @whynottalklikeapirat2 жыл бұрын

    Its a little less than 2/3rds of the blade so about 6-7" out of 10". You can easily change that by grinding it down so that the cutting edge goes all the way down to the handle. However there is no point, the whole idea point of this design is that you can change your grip and choke down on the blade for different carving tasks ... also I believe I have heard that the non-sharpened part of the blade is not tempered or hardened so it won't hold an edge well. Word is they harden the edge bit and leave the spine half softer for better shock absorption ... if you want something similar where the edge goes all the way, get a Condor I guess. But really why - it's less functionality and there may be better alternatives if what you are looking for really is a different design with different functions in mind - like maybe the Myparang golok, which looks pretty awesome as well ...

    The round handle bounces everywhere.. Needs to be flatter on the front sides like it is on the back.

  • @davidmathews2124
    @davidmathews21242 жыл бұрын

    It’s supposed to rotate in the hand with the swing…right? You don’t clench it like as axe or a hatchet. That being the case I’m glad mine has flat sides and a curved front and rear handle shape. I have a Bark River Golok in A2 steel that’s just the opposite…clench it like a hatchet. That cryo treated convex edged A2 is the toughest steel I’ve ever seen anywhere. The Parang is differentially hardened rather like a Katana.

    I can't decide which one i should buy 10" or 12"

  • @outdoordynamicsMY
    @outdoordynamicsMY5 жыл бұрын

    The 12" is a more practical size, great weight and length for most tasks. If weight is a concern, go for the 10" , it is lighter but can do the job. You will tire less with the 10" too. Either way, both are great tools, but the 10" is much more popular. Hope that helps
