I used to own a '91 Gibson Les Paul classic it was fun and easy to play due to small neck, flat frets, and high output pickups. Unfortunately it didnt speak to me. I sold it along with my '97 standard to afford a Gibson Les Paul custom and to be honest i am much more happier now. The custom is a totally different animal much better for lead and rhythem, it holds the note better and better at cutting through the mix. Overall, more versatile but as you know it comes with a bigger price. If you ask me though i do miss the classic because mainly i had it for a long time. Enjoy your cool classic and thank you for the beautiful memories. My heart is now aching a bit haha

Bin in Schwechat daheim. LG Weuzi

Cool! According to Troggly, those early Classics are more valuable due to their more accurate small headstock, and "Model" in the logo instead of the later "Classic".

Have a 94 Classic with flame top, supposed to be 1960 inspired. My first proper guitar purchase, bought it at 30th Street Guitars NYC. Tried dozens of LP's and this was the right one for me. After 25yrs of ownership, i've changed the tuners, pickups (took out the 498's and settled on Suhrs), and the nut. I think it's better than any of the newer LP's on the market in the last 20+ years. My friend has a 96 Classic burst, and it's just as good as mine, told him I got dibs on it he sells it. That way i'll have two LP's - one for Eb tuning, the other A440. Rock On !~~~~~

Finally a demo on these gems! Bought mine which is also from late '92 (no fx loop) like yours and IMO they are much better than the current reissues due to the transformers back then (early 90s) were the same quality as the late 70s ones made in england still etc. I had a sv20h previously to my '92 SLP, it was unusable from being so bright and trebly.

I would rather listen to this than the the millions of mindless, soulless, empty, robotic shredders that are everywhere especially here on KZread. I could listen to Helmut all day long and never get tired of it. He plays with heart, passion and soul ❤️🎸.

The Les Paul became really muddy I have to say. Terrible. The Fenders became way, way better. I’ve heard these effects before. Don‘t freeze Gibson guitars. But it‘s almost necessary for Fenders - getting rid of this wiry thin trebly behavior. Cryo is the key to a good Strat.

  • @Biblrocks

Thanks for that. I had an 1969 Blues breaker 50w head and I found that with that amp it didn't sound as good with a Marshall cab. Maybe it needed that age you have ? I tried loads of different cabs and found that a Peavy loaded with scorpions was the secret for me . The black widows didn't work. I notice the with the different amps you have tested, that I have seen, all sound like they are using that cab which has a really great tone colour and transfers the sound of the different amps you put through it really well. From my findings, the speaker is 90% of the secret to tone.
