Really beautiful example - I want a white dial 89190 now! 8:13 I can see what you mean, drawing the parallel between this and the Explorer 2. But what this watch really reminds me of is the Cream Dial Explorer 2 Ref. 16550. Not only because of the cream color dial, but also because of the unpainted white gold hands and surrounds.

Thank you! I'm slowly learning the differences in 40mm EX2's and your latest video helped a lot. I didn't know the EX2 had a reference without the painted black surrounds. And coupled with the red hand (equating with the red Tiger text), that's definitely the closest comparison. I'll start telling people that ☺

Great Review regarding about the servicing of the Tudor. I owned 3 Tudors as well. Prince Oyster Date (ref: 72033), Big Block Chrono (ref: 7170) this watch was the last gen with the Rolex's parts (Case back, pushers, & bracelet), and Prince Date Chrono Tiger (ref: 79280p). I was wondering what the cost for the overhaul service, then i saw your review regarding about the service cost. I bought all of them from Chrono24. I'm going to my local Authorized Tudor and speak with them in regards about the services.

The slimming down of the lugs on the 36mm OP is in keeping with slimming down across the full model line. This wasn’t to target the female market, as its been across all model lines. The super case marked Rolex’s foray into the modern updated steel/ceramic era and is now scaling back across the board to appear more streamlined. The substantial decrease in size say the 34mm OP the 124200 vs the 114200 however was done to achieve that, with its 18mm bracelet and 40mm lug to lug. Perhaps even the newest 36mm Explorer with its 19mm lug width and significant taper to 14mm. However the 36mm explorer does have historical Rolex roots dating back to 35mm precisions of the past which had the same bracelet width and taper, so there was a historical precedent in men’s size so its difficult to say for sure. The new 34mm OP however was never made in its current diminutive dimensions….but again there were 31mm oysters back in the day for men that wore even smaller so who knows. I personally think the perception of ladies wearing men’s size watches is far less common than talked about. Sure there are niche (and wealthy) women who will wear a Daytona. But most women opt for the 31mm datejust more than any watch on the market still. I think if a woman wants an oversized watch…they wouldn’t be put off by .35 mm lug widths, I’d think that would actually be a plus to achieve a “chunkier” oversized look. Just my 2 cents!

We found it at the Chicago Tiffany store and she knew I had been searching for it (the golden one, but that one seems to have sold out when it launched). I enjoy wearing it and seeing the display back. Also cool to see that Michael B. Jordan wore one in some events and also spotted Jeff Goldblum wearing the golden one in a Tiffany commercial. I purchased my 5514 with HEV from a vintage watch shop in the UK. It still has the COMEX in that case back but my etched number has significantly worn off, but at certain angles you can kinda still see it. As I understand it the PRE COMEX watches were the "testing" watches. I'm not 100% on that, maybe someone has heard differently? Nice video. I also have a double referenced 5513/5517 MILSUB which is extremely rare.

I feel ya. So many 16610s - and other older references for that matter - gets molested to the extent that folks like you and I will not consider them. Older Rolex watches from the 80s, 90s, and early-2000s are often customized by resellers looking to make a quick buck, too; and sometimes you cannot restore these customized Rolex watches to their original, authentic state. Rolex will not service them, because Rolex considers mods or custom Rolex watches to be counterfeit. The only market for these watches are non watch enthusiasts, i.e, the general public that just want Rolex on their wrist. Unfortunately, that makes up the majority of Rolex consumers. I was talking to a fellow that is four months away from graduation of med school. His father gifted him a two-tone ceramic blue Rolex submariner - reference 116613. He wasn't aware of the legendary watch on his wrist; he knew nothing about it. I asked him if he knew about Tudor, and he replied "no." I was baffled, because while he has a respectable college education, he knows absolutely nothing about wristwatches, or even anything notable about the watch on his wrist.
