This is said to be Eva's favorite song, and this is a great performance by her. But I'm not so fond of the organ and percussion arrangement.

Aretha deservedly earned the title of QUEEN, then, now, and forever. This song brings a certain person to mind for me....it's long over, but damn if I don't think about him when I hear this. 💔

I found the original of this song today. It was done wonderfully with talented vocals and conveyance of emotions. As for Ms Aretha she is wonderful. Both the original and this cover that Aretha did is AMAZING. JAMES CARR - SANG THE ORIGINAL

Thank you! When you found the original song and realized that the song is about happy ending, but no in the way that Aretha and most of the covers make it look.

For one reason or another, Aretha seems not to have got into this song, either musically or lyrically. So instead she just went to church. In the end, this version feels emotionally muddled. Sometimes, when a song is this great, you either have to submit to it or leave it alone. There are simpler versions by lesser artists that feel stronger. No fault of the musicians, who back her brilliantly. Those guitars!!

Can't believe it's been already like a year an a half since we lost this greatness. I fell in love with this song listening to Percy Sledge sing it, when i was about 20 years old. I was in love with this beautiful girl. Her aunt didn't want us to be together, so i used to go to her house like 5:30 a.m. some mornings to pick her up and take her to school. I used to park my car around the corner (at the dark end of the street) and she would walk out to meet me. I remember watching her walking coming in the headlights and thinking how absolutely beautiful she was. she made my heart so full. Eventually, her aunt got her way and sent her back to the Virgin Islands. Till this day we still hold a special place in each other's hearts. For me, I will always have our "Dark End of the Street" in the dark end of my heart, away from all other's eyes, but always there fore mine

Amazing Grace Lyrics - Maureen McGovern Amazing Grace! how sweet the sound That saved a wretch like me I once was lost, but now am found Was blind but now I see 'Twas grace that taught my heart to fear And grace my fears relieved How precious did that grace appear The hour I first believed Through many dangers, toils, and snares I have already come 'Tis grace that brought me safe thus far And grace will lead me home The Lord has promised good to me His word my hope secures He will my shield and portion be As long as life endures And when this flesh and heart shall fail and mortal life shall cease I shall possess within the vale a life of joy and peace (choir) When we've been there ten thousand years Bright, shining as the sun We've no less days to sing God's praise Than when we first begun (Maureen) Amazing Grace! how sweet the sound That saved a wretch like me I once was lost, but now am found Was blind but now I see Was blind but now I see

At the dark end of the street That's where we always meet Hiding in shadows where we don't belong Living in darkness to hide our wrong You and me at the dark end of the street you and me I know that time's gonna take its toll We have to pay for the love we stole It's a sin and we know it's wrong Oh but our love keeps a coming on strong Steal away to the dark end of the street you and me They're gonna find us yes they're gonna find us They're gonna find us oh some day You and me at the dark end of the street you and me And when the daylight hours roll around And by ten we're both downtown If we should meet you just walk right on by Oh my darling now please don't you cry Tonight we'll meet at the dark end of the street you and me.
