    Shapr3D doesn't support parametric modeling, that right there is a non-starter for me. Fusion 360 does, but it is clunky, buggy (I have to restart it every 20 minutes because random basic functionality just stops working, and it crashes a few times a day), and lacks some features OnShape has like using measurements as parameters, but as a startup you can use it for free (you have to apply). Then there is OnShape, another parametric CAD app, not buggy and clunky as Fusion, but holy crap, $1500 a year? They do have a program for startups though, you can apply and get OnShape Professional for free. Solidworks is another option, they also give it for free to startups (revenue less than $1M) but no MacOS support. I could run it on my Windows desktop and Remote Desktop to it from my Mac, but then I'm afraid the user experience will suffer (trackpad gestures, etc.).

    Can you provide what kit you purchased to build your CNC?

    The CNC frame and mechanical components are an Avid CNC... The electronics weren't from a kit.. I built them out myself.

    its great to see a couple assembling it. TRON XY! they got so much crap on release of the X5SA. I have one myself.. since converted to a laser engraver. good luck with this monster. how will you recover the costs of prints?

    The electronics and controller seem to be its downfall.. and the glass wasn't flat enough to print :-/..... I am converting to klipper with a BTT Kraken control board and a very flat aluminum plate for my bed.

    Great looking machine, But every time I see it. All I can think about, Is the crazy amount print time it will take to do a full print in that thing. Not to mention, The amount of filament that will be wasted on a failed print. Really nice looking machine though.

    yah, nothing fast happens with a machine line this... One thing of note is no one runs a machine like this at .02 mm layer heights... I have nozzle sizes up to 1mm so .25 or even .5mm layer heights are reasonable. As for wasted filament 100% true... It is a risk for all large format printers I have been looking into pellet extruders which would allow using recycled plastic easier and make material a LOT cheaper..

    I feel you... I converted over to Linux CNC a few years back but here are photos of my configs during that migration: drive.google.com/file/d/1Vx7JEHmholLObXwev_nHWf9iWUsEVTx2/view?usp=sharing Now keep in mind, no warranty or promise they will work for you.. They were just what my machine had when I made that change.

    Lol. "That sucks, lets get you a new one" is basically the best customer service you can get dude. Perhaps you wanted to figure it why it blew, but its cheaper for them to just replace it and if it becomes a persistent problem then they will look into it more.

    Onshape makes all your designs public domain, which means that although you cannot patent them, you can use them commercially. Regardless of the license agreement says in the previous section about non-commercial use, the later section of the same agreement states they are public domain and can be used for commercial use by anyone. Anyone includes you.

    I clocked 20gb of ram on fusion 360 last night on 1 start night. I've got 128gb 3600mhz ram running at 3733mhz I'm running a 10900k at 5.4ghz on all 10 cores. In my settings in fusion I'm using all 10 cores. I've hit all 10 cores at 100% once... I'm running a water-cooled 2060 graphics card. It's running 10% higher than standard clocks... I get no issues... I've tried shadow servers. Their computers can't do my work. For simple cad I use a $150usd laptop. I'm doing cam with millions of triangles in the meshes. Their machines cannot keep up with what I do.

    Hello! Great video! I am getting my ducks in a row for an avid purchase and I would really like ATC capabilities and so far this looks like a terrific option. Question.. How does the 3hp handle spindle handle surfacing operations with a 2 1/2" surfacing bit? And full depth cuts through 3/4" plywood with something like a 3/8" end mill? I am currently running a 12hp spindle at work and now want to purchase a machine for personal use that is within my budget. I just want me make sure the 3hp can keep up with the kind of work I will be doing. Thanks in advance!

  • @HandsonCNC
    @HandsonCNC2 жыл бұрын

    I think you are going to find the rigidity of the machine and the strength of your steppers are going to be a limiting factor before 3hp becomes a limiting factor... As for your two example scenario. Surfacing is more than fine.. And I have never done full depth cuts on this machine so I can't answer that...

    I have an Avid CNC now and would love a probe like this. How is yours connected to Avids control box? I don’t see a wire anywhere coming off the probe? Thanks!

  • @HandsonCNC
    @HandsonCNC2 жыл бұрын

    The probe is wireless, its got batteries in it, and then the receiver has 5v + a signal... I moved since I did this and have been in "get everything back up and running as a hobby" so I can't go check but it is pretty trivial as long as you have an open pin for a probe switch.
