It says this is a ballast train but the cars are NOT built to dump ballast. They are flat bottom gondolas so what might be the reason for the run?

I was able to catch the local twice at E Fillmore crossing earlier this year on what is left of the original Santa Fe ROW. Looking at this video I see that people still do not stop when the crossing is active. I read that is the main reason that Santa Fe abandoned that portion of their line because of several collisions at the grade crossings between their old station and the Fillmore crossing. I wonder if Rock Island had the same issue since it had a lot of crossings that just has grade crossing signals along the Colorado Springs line?

I was on the cog train in the 70s as a kid with my parents. Quite an experience. We went in July. Be sure to wear warm clothes because at the top it is cold and breezy.

Im so glad they reunited 4014 and her original whistle for this run. Yes, Ed said it himself, that whistle 844 has worn simce 2012 is 4014's original she wore in service.
