The thing that's starting to attract me to the master system is the colors. It's still 8-bit but it's so much more colorful than NES and the 16-color palettes mean the graphics can look almost 16-bit when done well

I wish M2 would do more Aleste collections. Their game gear / Master system collection released a year or two ago is actually really well done. A collection with this, MUSHA and Space Megaforce/ Super Aleste would be fantastic...

This was indeed a hard game, but it was fair in its difficulty-- the mechanics of the gameplay are consistent, so once you get used to a new planet's gravity, you can get pretty good at it. The only part of the game I didn't like was the final level as the Golden Warpship. Felt out of place with its completely different controls and odd final boss.

Which 3D glasses you used for the LCD screens? Any of those bluetooth ones would work with the Master System 3D games?

Agree! I have said this about breath of the wild. Even that rock boss is similar to a mini boss in BOTW. Also the 4 spirits thing.

As an Australian who grew up with this system as the main gaming console in the house until the Super Nintendo, I am amazed at what a good high-level overview you gave for this system considering you only really got into it in recent years. Dead set, WB3 is so good, I couldn't part with it when we sold everything else and I still have the original copy with manual to this day!

It's necessary to point out that G&G was made in 1990 and is not a "late release" for the Master System. In fact, it's not even halfway through the console's lifespan! Sega continued to support, and make games for, the Master System until 1995. Indeed, the majority of titles on the system were made after this game was released. Understanding this seems to be a real problem for American retro-gamers, who don't seem to be able to free themselves from their obsession with the US market. There's a great big non-American world out there and it contains a lot of very cool stuff America missed out on, not least the Master System. You guys were stuck with the NES, the rest of the world had a superior 8 bit experience, courtesy of Sega. Just

I saw the reveal trailer in 02’-03’ bought it outright. I have never beaten it though. Some games are just special you feel it and Disgaea most definitely fit that description

Shmupjunkie amd SNESDRUNK are tye two guys that got me into shmups. Ove been playing them for almost 2 years now and i can only 1cc RType, Darius, and Salamander. Bullet Hell shooters are my new thing, so im not very good at them yet, but they are beautiful and really fun

Your only valid critiques are the voice acting (which is easily remedied by switching to the superior subtitles/japanese voice acting) and the camera, but honestly there is very little platforming in this game. That dark room platforming section at the end should've definitely been removed though.

This one doesn’t get much love these days. I think the simple reason is it’s not as good as MUSHA however it’s still a pretty good shooter, best on the Sega CD for sure

I wanted to check out a review of this game from someone and you were great person to hear it from but my thoughts on the game yes it’s simple and a bit easy but overall I think it’s an enjoyable experience like you said “to play once” but from a 1-10 I give it an solid 7/1’2 and I’m playing it from the Nintendo switch console so that rewind feature comes in clutch to make a long story short “give it a try if you can if you like you like it if you don’t you don’t”

The length seems to be a pretty common problem with capcom shmups! Maybe that’s why people don’t talk that much about shmups made by capcom. I would love to see a top 10 list of capcom shmups. But there seems to be no such thing.

Bought this at least 30 y ago. It was on sale for like 5-10 Guilders back then ($ 5). Loved it but was never any good at it. I still have it in it’s original box and sometimes play it on an emulator. (Still suck at it though😂)

What an interesting review, but tbh FFXIII-2 is one of the best Final Fantasy out there. All your cons are actually pros and many agreed about these pros. So it's interesting to see a review like yours mentioning all the pros as cons. I enjoyed your opinion and the review of the game. Cheers mate!

The SNES port for example has even more quality of life, not only the named spells, but also showing remaining HP for each monster in battle. For example. And also the music and SFX fit better, on Genesis they often sound off or glitchy (spell effects f.e.). So unfortunately (I also started and grinded the Genesis port for 15h yet) the SNES port seems to be best in my experience so far.

Very good video man. It's a shame this didn't do better back then. I only heard of it when I was older, I had no idea there even were systems before the genesis or I would have bought them long ago!

I agree with much of what you said about the Master System. But the superior version of Sonic 1 is on the Genesis IMO. The Master System was still good but definitely more of a challenge.

When I got my Turbografx back in '92 I got Bonk's Revenge and Dungeon Explorer. I didn't really care for the game. But after I got my Turbo Duo Christmas of '92 I eventually got Dungeon Explorer II and thoroughly enjoyed it. Now, I enjoy both. They are actually unique games as there is nothing like them on other systems. Though I guess Crystal Bean being a bizarre port of Dungeon Explorer II means there is on but, I prefer the original version by far.

I'm getting more SMS games, and didn't have this on my list until watching your review because of how hard the other versions are. The updates sound great and are exactly what I'd want in a home port. Never got past stage 2 in the more faithful Genesis version...

Master System was quite huge in Brazil. I am glad seeing someone collecting the console on a late moment and realising how good the console is. When it comes to overall architecture (Z-80 processor), I think the Master System is the best system that brough the perfect combination of elements to make a good usage of this processor, excluding the Game Boy.

What an awesome system. Too bad Sega made a mistake of not letting other arcade companies port over their games to the Master System. They were afraid of supporting their arcade rival companies. By the time they realized their mistake it was too late.
