Hey Mari. Enjoyed your video. I have done 4 DNA tests so far: Ancestry DNA, 23 and Me, My Heritage, and CRI Genetics. I would say the best DNA test was CRI Genetics. They traced my african ancestry down to the exact tribes. Through CRI Genetics, I discovered that I was Yoruba, Esan (Nigerian tribes), and Mende (Sierra Leone). I would recommend CRI Genetics because Ancestry DNA and these other companies can extract what tribes we are from. Now, CRI Genetics is a bit more expensive, but if you want to find out what your tribe is, it would be CRI Genetics.

I had the same thing happen to me but am reversing it and my hair is now growing! It would tangle a lot. For 8 years my hair stayed the same length. I wasn't even flat ironing it at the time, and yet it had stopped growing. THIS step may be crucial because my hair is Now growing very well and I am getting results. First of all, I was not eating enough protein and I was lacking the nutrients needed. Secondly I had hard water. I didn't add too much to my diet but I am working on it. What I did do is buy a protein conditioner and use it as a leave in conditioner, conditioning both my hair and scalp with protein. Since I had hard water, I washed my hair with a sulfate free shampoo once or twice a week, but I applied the protein conditioner on my hair and scalp almost every day or every other day as a leave in. After washing the sulfate free shampoo out with regular hard water, I ran bottled water through my hair to rinse a bit of the hard water residue away. This started to grow my hair really well. I wasn't perfect in applying protein conditioner every day but I would try to not go too long (as in more than 5 days) without applying a protein conditioner to my hair and a quick massage of the rest of the protein on my scalp. If your diet isn't very good, a protein conditioner applied to the hair and roots of hair could give you a lot of growth. If your hair isn't getting protein from the diet, it needs to get it from somewhere. I used a regular protein conditioner as my leave in and would not wet my hair every day or rinse it. I just applied it without water and it has worked so far.

The 5% Finland/Northwest Russian is very likely carried through your British lineage. The Vikings (yes, you are a viking!) have been regular visitors to the Island of Britain since 793 AD. Estonia and Finland are very ethnically similar so that is probably the modern day countries that those genes originated from. So, they probably came over from Scandinavia to Scotland or Northern England and over time mixed their DNA with the locals. And then these people ventured over to the New World in the 1600/1700/1800s. These people or their descendants are your ancestors where their genes were mixed with your African based genes. Our planet is a melting pot and we are all descendants of people who were from different parts of the globe. For example, some of your Viking ancestors are very likely descendants of slaves from Eastern Europe/Russia or other parts of Europe that these Vikings conquered. I sensed that you were more joyous when discovering your African ancestry than you were when discovering your 14% European ancestry. Without spelling it out, I think its obvious why that is. I just want to mention that your 14% European ancestry is also made up of DNA that resulted in relationships between men and women that were not always consensual. And, just be cognizant of the fact that some of your African DNA is also that way for the same reasons. Sad to say, slavery existed in Europe, Africa and other parts of the world long before the horrific and tragic Trans-Atlantic trade of slaves from Africa to the New World. Mari - Slavery is horrible, in medieval times in Europe, in medieval times in Africa, in modern times in Africa, in modern times anywhere in the World. The one common denominator that seems to exist where an enslaved person is forced to have sex with their captor/master is not skin colour, its not whether they are European or African, its not the difference in their language or culture its the difference in their Chromosomes. I don't know of too many instances of a female "master" forcing her male slave to have sex with her. So, if you, or I and any of us want to be feel aggrieved by the heinous acts of our ancestors, I think we should target the males in our lineage. You very likely have both black and white ancestors that were enslaved and victimised by men. This is not an Anti-men post ! I was just trying to make the point that none of us can change who our ancestors were, but you know what, I think we all would like to dis-own some of them if we could. As if it needs mentioning, you are very beautiful. I love the fact that you are trying to re-connect with your African heritage, I think its very important. Don't forget that 14% though ! there was good and not-so-good people on your "Black" and "White" side. And, you should be proud of both, they have all contributed to making you what you are.

I feel you girl! 😢 If these next few months don't produce some length.... I'm gonna do the "BIG CHOP" You are adorable! Please don't be jealous! That's a Sin big time! I would really suggest that you go to a professional who does natural hair! Make sure that they know what they are talking about! Everyone's hair is different! Your hair doesn't look like it 's thin! I'm going to a professional loctician next week for a consult and... I'm gonna see what she says. If I don't see something by the time it starts to get warm, I'm gonna go short! You're not helping your hair by STRESSING! It's Hair and you are beautiful! You are not your Hair as India Irie would say! ❤ P.S. Oil your Scalp with Jamaican Black Castor Oil as needed! Make the Time! It's a Journey!

My hair says in my diy african threading and I redo it every 2-3 wks. I have 12 threaded sections and my hair stays stretched and hydrated. No need to deep condition until I go for a full-on wash day. My wigs come off each day and I change up my wigs to keep the rotation good. I use heavy products as well!

So many people have no idea what they're talking about in the comments section. Some black people do get lighter in the winter and dark in the summer. I used to think I was crazy when I look in the mirror but my skin gets darker in the summer and lighter in the winter. It's tied to sunlight, not the actual season. In the summer we wear less clothing. We're outside more more. Sunlight touches our skin and the winter we cover up more and we're probably inside more to stay warm. So our skin lightens I have photos to show the contrast between my dark and light skin. I consider myself brown skin but I have been called light skin but a lot of people and when I was younger i was called dark skin. I don't like being called light skin because that means that person is seeing and treating me different. I am just brown. I will always just be treated like a black girl but when another black person calls you light skin, that means that black person thinks you are more privileged than they are so I don't get being called light skinned.. At the end of the day we are all black. We come in many shades. That is the beauty of melanin. Some of us a lighter. Some of us are darker. That's just how it is. Don't let European ideology make you start thinking like they do by trying to separate us and keep us divided

I think we (in the natural hair community) need more videos like this. Thank you sis for being honest. I think you are stunning and your hair too. It can be discouraging seeing naturals show off how long their hair is or show their length progress. I try to think that many people out their wish they had hair on their head, and I thank God for the hair I have on my head regardless what length it is, as long as I’m with it. You are beautiful and thank you again for the HONESTY ❤❤

4:10 - ppl in both north and South America dna will say Cameroon dna but their ancestors were taken from either congo or ANgola. Years ago a group of bantu ppl left Cameroon, and split up, one group created kingdom of Ndongo (rich of gold of oil) and the Portuguese invaded & dropped ppl off in Brazil, Mexico , and Virginia and the Carolinas of USA. That why it says Cameroon and congo. They were the first group who were enslaved look up august 20,1619 Virginia

European does not surprise me. You are not black. Your admixture is visible. The brown skin Go claim your white side😂 A lot of Africa in the south of Africa and East if Africa and some tribes in Nigeria have whites in them from Europe . Black is Jet black. You are not an absolute black. A lot of girls and boys looks like you in Africa. Africa already told them they have admixture of Europeans.
