Built a few AMT kits, find them hard work and not that satisfying. Mostly due to general quality and fitment issues and some instruction sheet errors. Will avoid in future
It looks like a toy.
I have tons of truck models and dispite having the best selection of various rig kits AMT truck kits are frustrating to build period. You have done a good job on this your fifth wheel plate is backwards that's why it's so far up the chassis other than that great job. Don't let this kit stop you from building more trucks it gets easier with time.
A test of one's skills, eh? Rather than putting down the kit, consider it a challenge to see if you can improve your skills. Some of my favorite models were very difficult to fit and assemble. And an old cabover is a cool subject, not many were made into kits, and considering costs nowadays, can be a nice bargain. As to the cab not sitting square- looks like the intake and exhausts may be keeping it tilted. Thanks for the review.
Excellent build brother ❤😊
WTH no engine 😱. Oh well looks great 😊😊😊
Came out looking pretty good John. No part numbers is a real bummer on these truck kits, I've complained about it on round2's KZread channel. You did great for first time. Just subbed to you. 😊 Have a great day. 🙂
Hey @bigcharliesmodelgarage296 Thanks for sub & the comment. Subbed back
@@717ScaleMotorSports my pleasure. Thank you very much brother
If it was easy everyone would be doing it 😂. Overall it looks pretty good. I have done meany of the conventional style amt trucks and they all have their quarks. Dont give up now you know what to do with the next one.
Very cool kit. New subscriber here
Looks good. Nice job building it. Subbed your channel. We all need all the subs we can get!
Thanks for the sub @maryberrymodelmadnes5838!
Very nice looking build. You did a great job on this one. Thanks for sharing.
Nice look at the kit. It looks like a nice kit even without an engine. Maybe we will get an engine sometime in the future. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks. I was a bit salty about paying full price for a curbside kit, but so far it seems like it's going to worth it.
Awesome! As a modeler and a VW FREAK I love this! Such a good job with the final assembly, I have been through revells 1/25 1962 VW bus but not camper. I've also built revells 1/25 VW T3 "joker" camper to much delight. Enjoy your day, and keep posting!
Right on!
Great bargain at $11, love the eye grabbing lime green color. Nice build John.👍
That's a great looking build, John. Looks like a good kit too.
Thanks. It was a super nice kit. The fit and finish is fantastic.
Your interior detail looks great! The lime really pops with the black decals! The hood stripe is a good look. 😎👍
She turned out pretty awesome Nicely done 👍
What a great looking build sir very nice job I like that color
Thanks man. Appreciate it!
Nice looking builds. Thanks for sharing.
😎
Nice look at the kit. Thanks for sharing.
I've been building these trucks for 40 years. This one will test your patiens! On a real cabover the back of the engine slants down in the rear. Another comment mentioned the exhaust piping. I use the kit "Y" pipe, but make the elbows into the mufflers out of scrap plastic making it curve instead of those right angles, and it can be made to fit. I'd put a dollar on it, that it's your shift tower not letting the cab sit down. The platform the gearshift sits on is too high. Besides those inconveniences, that's WAY better than my first attempt at that truck!
I don't build many trucks, so my comments may not be worth much, but: ▪︎The cab may not be sitting flat at the back because of those pesky exhaust pipes. My guess is that the cab is resting on them rather than the frame mounts. ▪︎ Those exhaust pipes have long been a challenge. Some modelers form their own with sprue or Evergreen tubing, or they carefully dry-fit them to see where the prinlem(s) might be and then use heat to reshape the pipes. Yes, it's a pain. ▪︎ I've heard a few complaints about the fit of the wheels into the tires. I suspect the tires are new production and the wheels are still cast in the old molds, so ... Try stuffing cotton balls into the tires just before assembly - it can push the tire sidewalls more tightly against the wheel rims. I like AMT's kit selection, but their quality and their strange assembly diagrams make them hard to build. I think you've made the most of an old, iffy kit.👍
Great job the only thing is the interior tub isn't in all the way it's a very tight fit and needs to be pushed up farther but still nice
I was going to get this model before seeing this video. After watching this video, I decided to avoid this model.
Try building a Revell semi truck next time, not so frustrating. The sprues have the part numbers on them and the cross members for the chassis line up a lot better.
Your fuel tanks look realistic as most are stainless steel. I come from an industrial city in Canada and i see a lot of trucks and unless someone wants a show truck they are never chrome.
Never did like their models. Parts never lined up.
Nice built ❤😊
I’m in the same situation as you. End up gluing the rear wheels together due to poor instructions. I’m not working on the front wheels. I think it will look great when finished but agree the directions are definitely not the best. Nice truck Btw.
nice job
I built models all.the time they can be tricky
Just found you John. Great build! subd. Welcome to the YT modelling community!
The build looks great. You did a good job overcoming the kits short falls in my opinion. I've been building a lot of these AMT semi kits lately as a break from my military modeling and they can all be frustrating. Not for the faint of heart. I find that I usually end up building my own cab/ hood mounts because they hardly ever line up out of the box. But if a fellow takes a little time with them they can look pretty good taking up space on the shelf. Thanks for sharing. God bless.
Kenworth cabover looks great. Those old AMT semi molds are not the greatest but are still fun to assemble.
Great looking build John!!!!!
back in the 70's after years of detroit cars and WW2 planes, for a change my last attempt was a cabover truck. but girls and weed and other late teens stuff were competing for my attention. dont even recall if I finished it
Thanks for the video me and my son have this on the shelf to build it’s been 20 years since I’ve built a scale model but I am a truck driver and mechanic and I own a real kenworth cabover hopefully I’ll be able to get it together lol great video thanks
Looks great. I really like the color combination. 😀👍🏻
Great haul! I like it. You can’t beat the price. 👍🏻
Turned out brilliant love it 😊, they sell these here and there $75 AU 🇦🇺 Cool video😎 cheers🍺🍻 KC Tasmania Australia 🇦🇺🤝😎✌👍
Those AMT truck kits can really be an exercise in frustration. They are very old molds, and, unfortunately, Round 2 does nothing to help them when they bring these kits back. You did a fairly good job on this one. Thanks for sharing.
Round 2 is starting to do some upkeep on certain kits but they have to be very in demand kits. I doubt they’ll ever really do anything for truck kits like this. The Transtar was an exception due to its demand on being brought back.
It turned out very cool sir I like the color combination
@michaelcooke2559 To be clear though I don’t mind that it’s curbside, but I’m bothered that it’s curbside AND full priced. I’m giving it a chance though. Good subject matter.
Nice Christmas haul. I feel the same way as you do. I don’t like the Bronco is a curbside. No engine is the reason I have not bought one yet. Thanks for sharing.
I miss my childhood 😂 !! Great Hobby to have , especially building the Old classic cars & Muscle 💪 Cars ! Build a 66 396 SS Chevelle next ! Awesome Job 🔥🔥👍✌️
Nice paint and kit selections John. I've only been to Ridgefield Hobbies in central NJ since its close to NYC. 😊Thanks for sharing the footage.
Nice haul. Thanks for sharing.
Very Nice Indeed 🤗
I love the tour and it's a very big hobby shop! I'll be going to upstate New York next month and I like to stop in at Walts Hobbies
I really do wish there was a large, well stocked hobby shop closer to South Central PA. There are a few good ones, but the do use tends to be on trains and R/C.
