    There are much, much more issues than this review has, like loosing stored profiles and having to re-calibrate each battery swap when being powered from d-tap or v-mount, to name a rather big one. Wrong readings when using zoom on calibration is another one. It does seem like the demand for this one is huge, but it's a rather under-developed product firmware-wise. Also, the cable clusterfuck reminds me of macbook dongles in 2018. I wish they open the system to use other motors and focus systems with the lidar, but unfortunately DJI is not the company to expect an open system from. It's an Apple of the camera world, where each product will limit you to use their own line-up of products.

    There isn't an official way to run iff off dtap yet. Have I missed something? if you use an accessory for the ronin you like putting too much power into it which is causing issues. as per the zoom thing, I cant say I have had that issue but I haven't tried it.

    Cowboy Cam here! Haha thank you guys for covering all of this. This new system is simple yet insanely complex as you start running into quirks. For programming the lens profiles and if things get shifted and throws the calibration off.. the lidar unit most likely has been shifted. That’s what the lidar distance setting is for. If you go in and remeasure and re input the distance, it should fix it. At least that is what I found for my personal unit. Kondorblue and I are working on some rigging solutions as well ;) Another annoying quirk with the HDMI pass through with the DJI monitor is while it does display the lidar image, you don’t get all the touch controls that you do on the Focus Grip. I hope the next gen fixes that. Overall the DJI Lidar stuff, while having some few quirks, has truly been a game changer for me. Comfortably allowing me to use anamorphics on shoots I would have never even attempted to do so.

    Finally somebody mentioning the ridiculous connections of this system! Usb-C is NOT a professional connection. They should really REALLY use some LEMO connections, nowadays chinese replicas are extremely cheap and this wouldn't have added much to the final cost, with a huge improvement in reliability and sturdiness. It's really a pity, and I hope one day DJI will do this. They use a special 6 pin Lemo connector for the Transmission units (like those on Red DMSC2 and V-Raptor), I don't know why, because a normal simple 2 pin would have been probably plenty, and they force people to plug a weak usb-c in one of the most dangerous places on the camera. Bah. DJI is doing really huge steps in these fields, Transmission is mind blowing for how stable it is in comparison to the industry standard Teradek that is more and more a disaster, this focus system allows things that were possible only with 30K+ systems until now (and no, I am not even considering PDMovie, because it is in another league completely, it's not an autofocus system with people recognition, it just focuses what is in the middle of the frame, DJI did that years ago and it wasn't usable in the real world), it wouldn't take much to do other huge ones in terms of sturdiness. Regarding the mounting solutions, if you don't know, Nitze already makes a bracket to mount it with more flexibility.

    DJI REALLY need to change a few things for the next version. Whatever needs to happen in order to integrate the “hub” and “brains” all into the sensor unit needs to be sorted. That one unit should support all the functionality and operation of the system, with other parts of the system being solely for control input, and then obviously the motors. They need to switch to LEMO, it’s really that simple, and they need motors with daisy-chain. And the whole thing should be able to power over LEMO too. Pre-marked disks are an easy software thing they should add, as well as a diopter mode. I really wish they’d worked with Tilta on this, jumping off from the Nucleus-M.

    Clearly, I won't EVER trust any youtubers doing "early reviews" of product. I own a Focus Pro that has loads of qwirks and problem, glitches that were never ever mentionned by any of them. The double check and glitch of calibration is a real pain and a software non sense. Some you seems to not have experienced are problem when shooting someone close to lens (2-3 meters) while loads of people are behind. The Lidar just freaks out and can't lock onto the person in front. Focus Pro can't focus on faces only and freaks out when you have someone among cars or people or both. A s for the Battery solution, this shows how much the RS4 Pro is a joke as the RS3 Pro is exactly what the RS4 Pro does. And the retrocompatibility of previous lidar with the RS4 PRO is not properly working either... It feels like a preprod unit. The Lidar is so power hungry that it shows that a new Ronin system with interchable battery without needing to break down the set up is needed without going to an R2. RS2/RS3/RS4 are just little step upgrades without much added to them. A fresh up is needed for bigger Ronin setup than the typical FX3 / G Master configuration without getting a heavy and expensive R2. On the plus side, the hand grip when set up to control Zoom with one motor is freaking great, the haptic feedback change the feel of the wheel to act as a "broadcast like" zoom rocker. It feels million times better than a Tilta Nucleus M.

    Not to defend KZreadrs but they are in a weird position where they are expecting firmware updates to come within days. Usually the companies tell them that this is happening so they are not mentioning bugs. They think they’re going to be fixed because it would be irrelevant if they are fixed by the time the product comes out and to make the product look bad when it may not be the case. It’s a shame things aren’t fixed

    @@TheFilmGuyOfficial True that youtubers are in a weird spaces, and the firmware beta / test is a bummer. Things need to change and that's start on the brand and communication plan from the companies, not the youtubers. Look at the launch of the Z6 III from Nikon: They use influencers in their own campains and pay them for it, use their images and that's it. Then influencers can talk or not on this gear without obligations. Then later you can have tech reviewer or real users of final product sharing their though on the product. It's less hype and more transparent content. About close focus bug, it's not really close focus. Just imagine that you are following (walking backwards) to shoot someone in crowded area. Even if the the crowd is pretty far away from the subject the lidar will start to change subject and start to select the people behind your subject then you subject again and again.

  • @ConorMaynard
    @ConorMaynard3 күн бұрын

    Here's my issue with that process.. and any advice on this would be great! Obviously the LiDar calibration process for each lens is somewhat lengthy, definitely too lengthy to be carrying out each time you rig up your camera set up. So, since you have to input the distance between the front of the LiDar and the camera's sensor, how can you be sure that distance hasn't changed when using a smallrig rod/magic arm (I think that's what it's called) when mounting it. Because the distance it's literally measured down to the millimeter, and I noticed previously that if the distance you put in to the system originally is even slightly off the next time you rig up your camera, it completely throws off the autofocus pulling and the whole thing doesn't work properly. Currently I'm using a RED V-Raptor and I'm mounting the LiDar using the hot shoe mount (hot shoe? cold shoe? can never remember which way round they are haha) that comes with the LiDar, with a cold shoe screwed in to the V-Raptor, as it's the only way I can ensure the distance between the LiDar and the camera sensor never changes. However I'm aware this isn't completely ideal as it leaves the LiDar pretty far from the lens, and for better, more accurate results it needs to be closer. Apologies for the long-winded explanation, but any guidance on this would be very much appreciated!

  • @ConorMaynard
    @ConorMaynard3 күн бұрын

    After sending that comment I've gotten further into the video and realised he actually touches on this issue also! Haha but yeah, still seems to be no solution unless you just remeasure the distance each time which is extremely inconvenient and would put me off using it entirely.

    @ConorMaynard I now have my LiDAR mounted directly to my top handle on a rail and when I want to rig it and do something else I swap out the top handle for a different one that way when I go back to using the LiDAR all I have to do is put the top handle back on.
