‘Merlin’ what a player and didn’t stay long enough! Will never forget that semi final as a kid who went to his first game at OT that season as a 15yr old v Walsall in the 3rd round. Programme cost me 8p and the start of a love story that I still have as a 64yr old! And I will always love my club regardless of its disappointing teams!

This was my first game at Anfield as a 13 year old. I managed to clamber up some of the metalwork in the Kop and held on for dear life. Thatch of the Day showed Charlton’s 4th goal for long after this game was played and it always reminded me of my first experience. I travelled to Liverpool from 90 miles away in Staffordshire, each part of my journey by bus, as a 13 year old, on my own! Would that happen nowadays? I have a season ticket now in the Main Stand, but never forget that first match………

2 DODGY decisions changed the game. Derby player given off-side when he went through on his own... and then a free-kick to mufc when it wasnt a foul-and they scored from the free-kick

Best and Marsh did little for Fulham overall. Fulham finished 7 places higher the season after they left. Hereford were a poor outfit who finished bottom of the league with Fulham just one point above relegation. The rose tinted glasses are better left in the drawer.

Remember watching this on TV in Norway. What a revenge for the 0-1 loss for Southampton the previous year which I heard on radio on board my boat.

I was at the audience with some of these players today, and Martin said he only made that run because he heard it from the touchline. Apparently that call wasn’t for him 😂 he was 60/1 to score, and both keepers were 50/1!

The beginning of the end for us. We never recovered from this defeat, years of decline followed, still struggling 47 years later. Shame really because we were just as big and important as anyone during that era, I honestly do believe if we had sustained it for another decade and won a European cup, we would be in par now with the likes of Tottenham, Villa, West Ham, Newcastle. Playing in in front of 50 - 60 thousand every week, competing in Europe and finishing in the top half of the table most years. Be in no doubt whatsoever, Derby County should've been massive.
