There are a lot of advantages to the sea-to-summit tent. But... I think the disadvantage of water seeping under the fly over the vent is a problem that must be solved.
I have the old tunnel version one, Quechua quickhiker ultralight 2, I've slept there with my partner before and we plan to trek in Iceland Highlands in a few weeks with that tent. Hopefully will be good enough against winds and rain

How durable does it feel? I mean did you seat comfortable or feel like it gonna break at any moment? Does it worth it?
Sitting in it while I get the notification for your comment 😆. It feels as good as any of these style of seats. Most chairs you’ve sat on in your life are sturdier and more comfortable than this one. But if you want the portability, there’s not that many alternatives. In terms of durability I’m quite happy with these. On par with the more expensive brands.

I’ve been using various Patagonia items for running year round along the shores of Lake Michigan; sub zero temps to hot and humid, and for just daily wear. Most of my Patagonia running gear is well over a decade old and used for thousands of miles of mixed running, hiking and daily - and they are still fantastic! And they have a real life-time warranty the Patagonia honors!

That was an excellent review of the Altaplex! The list of cons together with examples was very honest and useful. Now I understand how water can potentially get in during rain while you're sleeping. It's also good to understand about a potential condensation shower with a single wall tent. I currently have a Big Agnes Copper Spur UV UL2 which I love, and it's really a bombproof tent, but it's heavy, takes up a lot of room in my pack, and after a hard day of hiking and I'm tired, it's more cumbersome to set up, especially if it's windy. I've been seriously considering adding an Altaplex to my backpacking options for longer, multi day hikes to lighten my load and enable a fast setup, and it's good to know the cons so I can at least be forewarned and better prepared to manage them. The cons won't deter me from making the purchase, but I'm now able to do so with my eyes wide open.
The only tent that impressed me so much that i need to reconsider paying double the price for one from that video.( There is half weight one , somewhere like 20kg one ? Same sruff but smaller)
I have had a R&M Multicharger Touring package (derailleur & double batteries) for 4 years and ride it constantly. I have about 9500 on the clock. The only issues I've encountered are due to overloading the bike because I weight 320 lbs and anything I carry puts me over spec. I am about to install my third rear wheel rim I found that an old Novaro rear trunk bag worked perfectly on on the front rack to carry incidentals. I also found that the front rack is perfect for take out food containers when used with a cargo net. I have taken the bike on several multiple day tours and it has never failed me.
I'm right around your range (300-310) and am picking up my Superdelite Friday! Any advice or more clarity on what you mentioned above?

I've used it on square and mummy shaped pads. Both work fine, but I suppose mummy shaped will give you a bit of extra leg space. Hadn't thought of that, thanks for the insight!
I had an older Spot version (2018) which had only one button on top and now I have the new version with two buttons on top. Even though it might sound simpler to have just one button I actually prefer the new version with the two buttons and find it more intuitive. It's simple really: one button changes the mode function, the other on and off or dimm when holding. It's not complicated at all. The side button is a feature of black diamond for instant max power output if you need it without going through the dimming process. It's quite easy to use

I like to mix it up to lose weight to avoid burnout. Hiking is definitely my favorite, but I like to mix it up with kayaking, Mt. Biking, and walking. I also have a collapsible fishing pole which makes hiking even more fun. There's ponds and rivers near almost all the trails near me.

I just did a section of this today (23/05/24) from Kautenbach to Clervaux which is 24km and took me 7 hours 25 minutes including a few small breaks. I took the train from Luxembourg City, got off at Kautenbach and came back from Clervaux. There were also two other stations in between so if you didn't want to do the whole 24km stage you could just jump on the train at either of them to come back too. The way is very well signposted. And of course all public transport in Luxembourg is free :)
Black Diamond should have got +10 for the touch feature that took 12 seconds to learn from the manual. Being able to toggle between a dimming level that I set and full brightness w/spot turned out to be a godsend in actual practice when a hike took longer than expected and we spent a couple hours trying to find camp in the dark. "Is that it? (Tap) Nope. (Tap)". The battery on any sane brightness level just wrecks the competition as well. You only tested max "turbo" runtime. 3 days of use with 4-6 hours of hiking in the dark only took it down 1 bar. It could easily last weeks of normal use around camp before needing a charge.

Have one, I also have the camp stove. Both are very well build and quite useful in form and functionality.
What scenarios do you use the camp stove in? I like the idea and would like to get one, but I worry it's going to be too heavy for hiking and too small for car camping.
@@BelgianHikers I have one and not impressed at all. It barely generates enough electricity to run it's own fan, have to constantly feed it sticks which means taking your pot/pan off to add more. Neat concept, but not practical at all IMO.
I have both & wished the termo generator was in the fire pit. I like the campstove with the grill. I do all my cooking on the grill because it has a flap to add wood without taking anything off to refuel it but it’s best to use the pot it came with on the stove itself & I will uses pellets for that. It is a pain to keep taking the pot off to add wood. My neighbor has a pellet stove in his home & gives me pellets. He has the campstove also & said pellets will burn longer but I don’t think I’ll use those pellets to cook meat over. I do have BBQ pellets for that & gives the fish a good flavor on the grill. If I’m back packing for a couple days I would just take the stove without the pot & grill. If I didn’t take this stove I would be packing fuel bottles, solar panel & power pack.

Echt hé. Ik vrees dat dat stilaan op veel plaatsen de regel wordt. Super vervelend, maar ook wel begrijpelijk als je ziet hoe onverantwoord er op sommige bivakzones met vuur wordt omgegaan (zwartgeblakerde bomen etc.). Maar of dat nu aan de hikers ligt?

Dude I literally was at REI yesterday looking at all of the chairs like this and couldn't lean back in any of them without toppling over. The zero, the Nemo elite, you name it.
Nice insight. I tested both and found that for comfort of dual insulated vestibules and more headroom, the extra 200 g of the dome are worth it. The tunnel inner tent cannot be easily separated which makes it difficult to dry in the morning. If you happen to have slugs or snails that crawled in-between the inside and outside tent it's more cumbersome too. It is really really fast to set up and pack because of this though.

Zpacks leads in innovation. Unfortunately, it also leads in awful quality and equally awful quality control. On the Altaplex, I’m 6’5 and on a 3” pad my feet touched and my head was about 2” from the canopy. My quilt was in constant contact throughout every night. More irritatingly was the fact that if I leaned up, the canopy was very much on my shoulder. Bluntly, it was impractical for someone my size. Marketing this to tall people is non-sense. That said….I’d love a one-trekking pole shelter, just longer and wider. Good video.
For me the mental part is so so important, because high intensity interval training is just in a gym full of people, and without the smell of nature, the good air quality, the views, the plants and flowers, etc.

You should read the manual if your willing to spend $75. They are the best features I know of.
I've read it, but that doesn't mean I'll remember every button press combination when I need it next winter. And no one I handed it to figured it out on their own. I'm not knocking the features, just the UI. If it's intuitive to you then great! Lots of people downvoting the video because they love Black Diamond, so they obviously make good stuff 😄

I'd say somewhere between 15 and 25 minutes, depending on your skill level. Two people who've done it before could get it down to 10.

Very informative video! I'm going to be travelling from Ireland and in Luxembourg for four nights at the end of May and want to try and do two separate day hikes if possible. I was thinking maybe Mullerthal 2 and part of this one from Ettelbruck to Goebelsmühle possibly. Which would you say it busier in terms of other hikers? Also if you could only choose one which would you choose? Thanks!
Hm, tough choice. I've yet to meet anyone who doesn't like the Mullerthal, especially if you can do it on weekdays to avoid crowds. The Lee trail is beautiful as well but more tranquil, and more challenging.

Thanks for this review! I'm worried about the odour as I've heard it can be quite bad with this material/weave configuration. Did you feel that it got worse than other sun hoodies?
I don't think it's worse than other polyester shirts, but it seems to absorb a bit more sweat because it rides rather high under the armpits.
@@BelgianHikers I've had really good success with Eddie Bauer solarfoil shirts. They have a good antibacterial coating on the fiber. They are cooling, don't mind bug spray and stay fresh a long time.
Just wear a merino shirt underneath and you should be good , will last fresh longer

Just bought this tent. We are going to 2 Sandaya's over the summer holidays, first time in a tent as a family. We were going for the tipi originally, but seeing them both set up next to one another at our local decathlon, it was kind of a no brainer. Wish us luck lol xD

@@BelgianHikers The tipi is pretty but impractical. The living space is quite small and the slanted sides make it feel even more cramped. Salesguy told us it was mostly 'younger families' who go for the tipi, and the 6.3 was usual older people who set up camp somewhere for a month over the summer. So yeh, guess we are old people now :D

Nice review, honest too. I got mine sent over to the uk 5 years ago, was pretty expensive, thought we had a trade deal with the US. I've used it a lot over the years up in the highlands of scotland and various other places and on the whole it has performed quite well in bad weather, the condensation is a big issue and i ended up using a bivvy bag with my sleeping bag to protect it. Its definitely not as long as advertised, im 6"2 and find once i have my sleep system set up my head and feet almost touch the walls, dyneema is slippery too, i have found my big agness sleep pad slips from under me at night which is a bit annoying. I guess the biggest selling point is how light it is and the fact its only a shelter, not designed to spend a lot of time in.
Hello, fellow Belgian hiker here, Just came across your channel and love the flow and general ambiance of your videos, good editing style, straight to the point and informative comments all the whilst covering a wide array of gear and subjects. You gain a subscriber, your channel seems very underrated here on KZread! Anyways, i was wondering how you go about the rules against wild camping in Belgium, i'm sure you are aware of the existing "Paalkampeer" spots or "Bivakzones". But these are really limited in Belgium and rarely link up with a nice trail. So i was wondering as a fellow Belgian outdoor fanatic how you tackle this? Granted i travel with tents mostly not a camper or car. On the web other hikers in Belgium have mixed experiences, from a "boswachter" chasing out campers to "boswachters" offering a slice of pizza. The rules and regulations about wildcamping/"wildkamperen" are very, very vague in our legislation, it seems. 70% of people i do hear saying things like "you'll be fine, they tolerate it" to things like: "You'll get fined and sent away in the middle of the night" So I'd like to hear your 2 cents on it.
Thanks for the kind words! I'm a big fan of bivakzones, but they've been closing quite a few of them down these last few years. Too many people using them as party spots and/or being very dumb about fire safety. I definitely think wild camping can be done right, but it does require a certain skill set and a lot of respect for leave no trace principles. If you put some effort into finding a good secluded spot, wait to set up your tent until dusk and don't make a fire, it's possible to stay unnoticed 90% of the time. We once set up our tents right in front of the church of a small town in the Ardennes. Got up at 6AM and no one noticed (or cared enough to complain 😆). So it's definitely an option for smart people - hopefully not the dumb folks who cost us the bivakzones 🙏🏻.
Thanks for sharing that, very valuable to a newbie, like me!. I think the leave no trace principles should be an inherent instinct for people but sadly its not.
Also, the real pro tip is probably to talk to the locals and to ask nicely if they mind you setting up your tent on their property. This does require some people skills, but if you're friendly there are surprisingly few people who turn you down. Same goes for refilling water supplies.
I was planning on talking to local farmers to pitch on the edge of one of their fields that borders with a forest/treeline. The only thing i don't like about that is, then i am announcing or letting someone know where i am staying, which i don't like for safety.
Thanks for the video, i would like to ask.. how is it when keeping bugs/insect and cold out? I saw reviews on the 4.2 and it had some issues that I didn't like for instance between the bedrooms and the outer material there is the gap that anything can come in. The bottom of the door also does not close so any unwanted visitors can easily join the party! Thank you
Haven't had any issues with bugs myself. I read a review online about someone who had exchanged an older model in favor of this one because the old tent had bugs coming in underneath the front door. I'm too lazy to set the whole tent up to check, but I'm 74% certain the bottom of the door closes with a zipper. It's true that the fabric 'wall' between the two sleeping compartments isn't closed at the bottom, but that's not really meant to keep bugs out (I've had kids crawl underneath, but I assume you're talking about a different kind of unwanted visitor 😆).

HS Pedelec Not powerfull. 32/34 Kmh is what you get when low head wind . My former comut bike 36/38 Kmh whit Head wind. Seit 18 Januar 2024 super charger 3 hs rohloff Bike. Mein erstes neues s Pedelec . Hatte 2 mit mittelmotor.Letzter mit alfine11 nabe und riemen. Alles Top, nur er ist mir zu schwach. 32/34 Kmh erreicht man bei nur geringen gegenwind. Sonst 36/38 oder es wird anstrengend. Seit 2017 fahre ich immer 36/38 Kmh mit gegenwind. Und jetzt 31/32 Kmh und das bei Turbo-modus. Mir reicht es nicht zu langsam als Pendler . Das tacho ging 4 Kmh vor, nach 2 maal werkstatt etwas mehr als 1 Kmh vor. Bei Km 950 riemen rutschte auf einmal ein bischen durch. Hatte noch 12 Km nach Hause. Nach 8 Km Rutsche riemen durch,liegen geblieben, riemen abgefranst. Neuen riemen bekommen.
