Just a "garage guy" sharing my take on "at home" MFG for over a decade. Blessed to have turned my passion for drawing and building CNC machines/3D printers into a full time gig.
Thanks for watching. Please check out the chaos of my website and social media links for more on what I'm up to.

What were the red clamps on the bottom for?
They were temporary. Don't remember what exactly they were for at the moment.
Wow thanks so much for helping out and showing the process. I am about to attempt my boats floor here soon.
Where do you buy the raw material?
There are a lot of sites on line, Amazon especially. However SeaDek has updated their online store and have more options directly available than they did a year ago. Would recommend them.
How did you manage to get an endmill tool to set to 0 RPM? Vectric prevents this now.
edit the gcode.
Had to filter through all the useless EVA videos to finally find this one. You have the CAD, tooling info with speed & feed data, the tools, and the cuts. Great job. Informative, succinct, by the numbers video that has a wealth of 'how to'. This should be the go to video for anyone looking for the basics in CNC cutting EVA foam flooring. Thanks!! Getting ready to cut carpet on a 29' Twin Vee and an 18' flats boat. Question: Was this tape with vacuum hold down or just taped? I'm using stick on backed EVA. Are there any issues with cutting EVA using a vacuum hold down?
This is with a vac hold down, we also tape the edges as the material isn't always flat.
Great results! I run some smaller stuff on my CNC but I run at 24k rpms and 300-350 IPM....get very good results as well. Maybe something you could try.
nice design, is your site to order stil running?
Hello if I may ask, what do you end up doing with those shredded pellets?
Unfortunately, landfill or incinerator. I don't think shavings are ever remelted in industry.
post more videos ... it's super interesting I'm waiting for news from you
I'll try. Thank you.

Do you get any chatter?
What do you mean? Chatter when and where?
@@bordesigns1429 Do you get vibration in the machine?
@@pnuema1.618 No the machine is solid. Refer to the videos of the 4x8 build that this is designed after. This is stronger than it is.
Clean!
Hi, what material is used for your gantry plates? Is that hdpe as well?
All ates are 1/4" thick T6 aluminum
@@bordesigns1429 thanks for the quick reply
Good Day Sir. I would like to ask about this system what did you use for the pinion is it metal or the same HDPE material? And also how about its precision? Thanks in advance.
The drive spindles (pinion and pulley combo) are 3D printed but can also be swapped out for metal drive spindles from Avid CNC. Precision is .002" +/-
Brilliant! Is there any deflection in the gears that lead to inaccuracies? Honestly it's very smart alternative to metal.
i need 6meters , :p
would love to know more
Visit my bor designs on Facebook and see your name and email address to [email protected]. I'll be sending out an email blast soon
do you see that stuff I'd like to buy some for a machine I'm making
I saw Marvin. Send your email address to [email protected] and I will add you to the list of the email blast I am working on.
I'd also like to know where you sourced a lot of your parts .
any chance I can buy some of that rack track from you ?
Isn't wood deteriorating and throwing the machine frame off gonna be a nightmare in the future? asking as someone who is currently interested in building one
No more so than any other wood workbench in your shop. Our production builds feature a full metal table base though....
@@bordesigns1429 ah, thank you!
Ridgidity= zero. Look at that spindle wobble at 0:32 !
Well, not exactly zero but yeah less than needed. This cut (at faster speeds and a deeper cut, with a dull ass bit and 12yo router) was an excellent stress test for this little system regardless. When I can find it, I'll share the plenum cut video I have on a CaMaster Cobra 510 with a 6hp spindle. It had wobble on the cross cut too.
well its a router, not a mill. accuracy isn't the main point of the machine. with a gantry that long ofc there's deflection. but its great for its purpose
Beautiful machine!
Amazing idea! What material is that? Could your machine cut aluminium in a similar way!
There is a video on the ply list of it cutting aluminum. share your name and email address to [email protected] and I'll put you on the mailing list for info. Also be sure to check out my facebook and instagram pages, search bor designs.
do you sell your drive systems ? And rails for that matter ? I want to build a machine 4 feet wide and 2 feet deep I want my y axis longer .Basically it's your four by 8 machine chopped down to a quarter of it's length .
Please send me your email address to [email protected], I will add you to the email blast I am sending out
Kannst vergessen mit den Rollenführungen an einer Fräse!
What the X frame ? C beam? Vslot 2080? or double vslot 2080 ?
This machine was built around the Openbuilds part store.
Hi I like your design is it possible to buy a set of rails? I'm planning on building a mixed table for milling and ordinary topless so I could enjoy both in my tiny workshop.

Looks like gear racks you are making
Nice
Do you have plans available for this build?
Yes there are plans and components to go with this build. You can check out openbuilds.com build list for the bor 454 or please visit my Facebook page @borbuiltnc
can you do more 2d stuff like convex sculptures?
Router is ok? Sounds rough with the plunge?
Hi are you interested in sharing your build plans ? I would love to put together a cnc router like yours for my carpentry needs
Take a look at my Facebook page, @borbuiltnc. There are a lot of pictures of this build and others there. I'm working out a final version of this now, but am sourcing most parts from the OpenBuilds part store. PM with any questions, I am happy to help.
That's great, I was hoping to use openbuilds Blackbox for my cnc for its plug and play ease of use.
ditto
Machine is nice and simple
Hi. What size motors are you using with you machine and what jogging speeds do you achieve?
NEMA 24 (439 oz-in). It maxes out with rapid speeds of 520ipm.
@@bordesigns1429 Thank your for your information.
@@bordesigns1429 I have 960 nema 34 motors from Automation Technologies and I have them mounted on the pro rack and pinion drive from Avid CNC. Motors are not mounted yet onto a machine since it's a step by step process and I'm experiencing stalls at 450ipm.
