  Use the study guide!! If you have questions about certain sections, reach out to other locksmiths and look up videos explaining the topic. And remember that real life Locksmithing is completely different lol!

  Not a locksmith or lock picker. Why not set pin 1 after setting the rest? (Instead of constantly going back to pin 1)

  That’s a great question! What makes picking locks possible is that there are tiny variations in manufacturing, most notably the fact that the holes in the plug (the centre where the key goes) are not in an exact straight line. So some pins will “bind” before others. Abus uses a combination of one standard pin at the front, and spool shaped pins through the rest. Spool pins are thinner in the middle and so they don’t bind up as noticeably as standard pins, which are the same thickness throughout. So when you set or “pick” the spool pins, it has a tendency to drop the standard pin often. And when the standard pin has dropped, you can’t really feel what the next pin is that needs to be picked.   I have a cheap one of these from public storage that's almost impossible to pick; I've only gotten it open twice after working on it for HOURS trying to figure out a faster way. The problem is... unlike what you show at 1:33, the cores has no spring back... tension allied to it turns and sticks it into rotation, so anything overset or security pins can be set by slightly releasing tension on the pry bar.

  So im a beginner in lockpicking and the clear lock i was using had white chalky stuff (i use bottom of keyway tension because my wrenches keep slipping off off when i use top of the keyway) and then finally the top chipped off and key pin number 1 slipped off and into the way, deeper inside the lock, like pin 2 and maybe three and no matter what i do it wont budge! (Im obviously a beginner and i have NO idea what to do)😢

  When you go to a hotel, how many study the escape plan printed on the inside of the door as one of the first things. Very few, but more should do it. Would also be nice if more public placed had that kind of information visible by the entrance

  I have one of those and I got it from a garage that this lock was there for over 2 decades and I got it picked opened thanks to you I had trouble with it because if I’d tension it the pins would not set or it would reset the problem was I was over tensioning it I lessened it and I got it easily

  I work for a builder that puts these locks on there front doors how can I put the APP on? We set up temp codes

  Just have the homeowners download and set up an account in the app. Then they can add the locks to it and have control of the lock.

  Horrible lock, history has never worked. Unlocked it while out of town would never relock. I had good internet and access to security cameras and wifi thermostat but not Schlage. No customer support, never return calls or emails. Unreliable junk.

  When you go to the access codes screen, on the bottom right should be an option that says virtual key (or something similar). Tap on that and it will walk you through the setup. Each family member will need to set up their own Schlage app account to use the app, but as you know it’s straight forward

  I got a problem where my deadbolt lock has locked me out of my house. I had to get in through the back door. I am not able to get lock to disengage. I can hear mechanism trying to unlock but it will not. I have looked at a few of your video's but the all say that the deadbolt has to be retracted. I am not able to retract it. I want to try the default reset but am afraid I may make thing worst. Please advise or give me some ideas of fixing this problem. I did change out the batteries even though they were at 78%.

  Are you able to retract the bolt using the thumbturn on the inside trim on the door? If so then it may be that the motor in the lock has either stripped gears or otherwise gone bad. If you are not able to unlock it from the inside, then the tailpiece from the cylinder may have broken (it’s basically like a drive shaft for the lock). In either case, I would recommend calling a local locksmith to come out and see if there are alignment issues with the door and also get it to open. If the motor has gone bad, Schlage May warranty the entire lock for you.

  @@LockPickingPatrolman No that wouldnt work either. I went as far as disassembling and tried a flat head screwdriver and not to much force. It is jammed, when I try to do my code, you can hear motor trying to unlock but it will not.

  Hi, thanks for this video. Months after setting my lock up, and it working just fine, I noticed my WiFi settings in the app are now blank. Is this normal? Or have I gotten disconnected? It looks like it’s connected, and I can even see the battery level on the lock. I am currently out of state from my lock, so I can’t seem to reconnect it. I was trying to add a new code but it gave me an error msg; this is why I’m writing this. Seeking help.

  Being out of state from the lock can present some challenges in trying to diagnose any problems. If it’s possible to have someone at the lock to change the batteries, that’s where I would start. Fresh Duracell batteries, no Amazon or dollar store ones either. Also, if you’ve changed any WiFi equipment at the house it could’ve effected it. When you get back to the lock, you can do a factory reset of it. Make sure you have the factory codes handy (usually on a label under the battery cover). If this still doesn’t resolve your issues, call Schlage tech support and they will most likely walk you through these same steps, plus a few more tests.

  If you Google “Schlage BE489 factory reset” it will give you the steps to follow. Once an Encode has been reset to factory, you’ll be able to set it up on a new account.

  You can use pin tumbler depth & space keys to impression lock using Neulube. You cut the depths that are marked.

  The most common reason I’ve seen for firmware update issues is that the WiFi is a little spotty at the lock. I would try opening the door (so it is closer inside to the WiFi) and also putting in a fresh set of Duracell batteries. Also on rare occasions, the OS of your device can make a difference. If you’re using an iOS device, perhaps try and android if you have one available.

  I've tried a thousand times absolutely no matter what I do after I scan the QR code on the back of the lock it asked me to press the button and release it and nothing happens My lock has to be dead I mean broken the batteries are fine
