Jenn and Leon

Jenn and Leon

We create travel & lifestyle vlogs from around 🌎 the world about the world
We share our travel experiences both as tourists and living locally as digital nomads.

In April 2021 we quit our jobs, packed up our stuff and MADE the bold move to TRAVEL FULL TIME.
We believe travel fosters understanding, compassion and reflection in ways nothing else truly can.

We love meeting new people and learning about the local cultures in all of the countries we visit.

TRAVEL has ALWAYS been a part of our journey with 14 countries in our first year BEFORE we started full time!
We got engaged at Aphrodite's Rock in Cyprus and 🥂 our engagement in Paris. We have been together for 4 years.

Jenn is Canadian in her late 40's and Leon is British in his late 30's!

    Every country has its own culture and if you respect it then you will be welcomed by the locals. But if you use your own country as a standard to scrutinize it from above and make lengthy judgments about whether it conforms to your beliefs, then you can look elsewhere. There is an old Chinese saying that when in Rome, do as the Romans do. It is rude to go to someone else's place and complain that your beliefs are not followed there. If you come to China next time, I hope you will go there just to enjoy it and not to scrutinize it

    Western countries have been smearing China, especially the United States, which is most afraid of China replacing its status as a world power. China's rise is leading the way in terms of talent, science, technology, economy and urban construction. The United States is afraid to death... so the United States uses media reports to do its best To discredit China, it is only true if you go to China to experience it personally and understand the local people and things...

    happy belated birthday !! im glad you got to celebrate it on an amazing trip :) i too will be taking China Eastern Airlines and is planning to do the 144 hour visa-free transit as well. I did read up on the gov website stating that the policy is that you must present your departure (connecting flight from Shanghai to the next country) boarding pass with confirmed seat number to the Chinese Immigration official. My question is, did China Eastern Airlines print all your boarding passes (for your flight to China and then your flight from China to the next country) at the airport before your boarded the plane bound for China? Or did you notify the airline days in advance that you will be opting for the 144 hour visa-free transit and they gave you the tickets beforehand? Thank you!

  • @JennandLeon
    @JennandLeon10 күн бұрын

    Hi there. Usually when you are boarding to fly to China they will ask you about your visa situation. You can also visit China with 2 separately booked tickets as long as you are going onto a third country. You must show proof of this. You can ask the airline prior to boarding but I'm pretty sure we just showed them our onward ticket / flight out on my phone and that was acceptable. They do ask for confirmation of where you will be staying as well! I hope you have a wonderful trip!

    @@JennandLeon thank you for your response, how about when you arrived at China airport, you showed the Immigration official your flight reservation out on your phone and that sufficed? My English is not very good so I’ll explain it in Chinese:据我所知,在美国人民是没有屠宰权的,比如猪、鸡、鸭都必须是在屠宰场宰杀的,所以美国人可能很少看到宰杀动物的画面;而在中国法律里,屠宰权是在人民手中的,每个人都可以在家中宰杀牲畜。特别是20年前30年前,在家中宰杀鸡、鸭是非常平常的事。不过现在,越来越多的人不会自己动手,而选择去菜市场由卖家宰杀,或者是去超直接购买,但是年纪大的老年人可能还是会自己动手。据我了解,穆斯林有现场宰杀的传统,你们在路上看到一些穆斯林餐厅门口甚至会挂着全羊的尸体 通常这是为了表现他们的羊肉很新鲜。

    What to Watch When Traveling to China: Starting July 1, 2024, Chinese authorities have the authority to check everything on your phone, and if they judge that the content is harmful to China, they can immediately put you in custody. VPN is a must because overseas Internet access is often unavailable during travel to China, but it will depend on who judges whether it is an app that is harmful to China. If you don't have an electronic payment method in China, it will be very inconvenient. For example, the stores don't have change, you can get fake money, or you can't use a taxi through the app DIDI… Hotels must only use hotels for foreigners designated by the Communist Party and will be automatically reported to public security and monitored when registering your passports. If you go to some sensitive areas (Uighur, Tiananmen, etc.), you have to be very careful even if it's a tourist destination or even if it's not a big deal, such as filming a video. Public figures keep watching and asking questions.

    Thanks for sharing! Very interesting tourism experience, and I appreciate the fact that you are trying your best to be objective and open minded in your comments. I had a similar “duck killing”experience. When I was little I went to my hometown, a countryside village in China that was very underdeveloped, with my extended family. I saw my grandpa killing a duck by breaking its neck and draining the blood and that traumatized me (I already made friend with it several days before it happened). Growing up in downtown Beijing I have never seen such direct presentation of animal death my whole life, and I never liked it. However, there is a historical background to this. People from my grandparents’ generation were still starving and they were only able to eat meat maybe once a year. Livestocks were not seen as pets in anyways when people were literally starving to death; they were just food, period. Even nowadays in many less developed countryside areas of China, people still buy livestocks and kill them by themselves before cooking. Killing livestocks is part of their daily routine, and they don’t mind kids seeing it just like you wouldn’t prevent your kids from seeing you cutting meat. We, as people who grow up in big cities, enjoy the privileges of industrialized food chain and don’t have to do the dirty work ourselves, so we tend to be negatively shocked to see these killings; but it is in fact a very normal daily routine for any human in the pre-industrialization era, and still for a lot of people these days. Just want to give you a little insight regarding this incident, and wish you enjoy your future trips! Btw to those who keep denying in the comment section that many people were confined in their apartments during Covid lockdown, you should stop defending every action the government took. The government is not the country, although some propaganda tries to blur the difference. Criticizing your government helps it to become better, defending its every action does the opposite. Any patriots should be open in discussing the wrongdoings of their government (although I can testify that these window cages are simply for theft prevention; newer buildings do not have those anymore)

    1. China is an almost cashless society, with 99% of Chinese people using mobile phones to pay even for small shops. All you need to do is open ALIPAY, or get a mobile SIM card in China. You will find all the food, housing, transportation, shopping, all done with a mobile phone. The subway does not actually need to buy a ticket, and you can directly swipe a ticket on ALIPAY. China should be the most convenient country in the world for mobile payment. 2, China is now open to many countries 144-hour visa-free, travel is very convenient. The key is that the price in China is only one-sixth of that in Europe and the United States and other countries, very cheap, come to China and have a look. The people are very friendly, the city is clean and the food is delicious.
