Den Hill Farm and Fungi

Farmer Ben from Den Hill Farm and Fungi, provide's sustainably grown produce with a special focus on mushrooms and harnessing the power of the fungi kingdom to fuel our production. We produce gourmet mushrooms year round in Appalachia VA and utilize mushroom compost, as well as other farming methods like permaculture and intercropping, to help also grow seasonal veggies. We are using this channel to share what we have learned to the public and other producers. The mushroom industry is so new there is tons to explore and research plus plenty of room for growth. We also have started listing some of our shelf stable products on Etsy... so check them out: medicinal powders and teas, cultures and more.

    I like the idea of the external thermostat on the wall, but assume you somehow don't have frost buildup issues on the cooling fins that block the fan?? I had a problem when cooling a warm room (ie. from 70 degrees to 40 degrees). The condenser would not go into a defrost cycle and the frost would build up and block the cage fan in the AC to the point where it would not turn. Also, the frost buildup on the cooling fins blocked air flow from the AC into the room, stopping the cooling action. I had to add a timer to the night light circuitry to force the condenser to shut off and defrost every hour or so.

  • @nelsontheseagull
    @nelsontheseagull2 жыл бұрын

    I have done this, however I cannot seem to get the settings just right, I need to get the temp lower before the timer kicks it off, however im frosting up before then. I have an ink bird with a 3 degree differential and 5 min delay. Temp at 3, however it only ever gets to 7 based off an external thermometer

  • @kthompso43
    @kthompso432 жыл бұрын

    @@nelsontheseagull I don't know what an Ink Bird is, but with my window AC unit, I need to have the night light timer turn off at least every 30 minutes so that the compressor shuts off for at least 15 minutes and defrosts. This schedule, of course, depends on room size, size of AC unit, outdoor temperature, etc.

    You can do this without the lightbulb. The temperature probe is a thermistor (verify that by checking the parts list!) That’s a resistor who’s value changes with temperature. Cut the wires to it and measure its resistance at a warm temperature. Then solder an ordinary resistor of that value across the wires. Save the thermistor in case you ever want to use the unit normally.

  • @kennestler3414
    @kennestler3414 Жыл бұрын

    I agree, provided the temp. probe is indeed a thermistor. The minimum temp. setting on most window a/c units is 60 degrees F. Cut the wire to the probe. With an ohmmeter, find the resistance at both 60 and 32 degrees. The goal is for the a/c unit to detect a resistance value which is normally produced at 60, when the temp. is actually 32. The resistance in a thermistor decreases as temp. increases. Let's say the resistance @ 60 is 50ohms and 100ohms at 32 degrees. If you connect a 50ohm resistor across (in parallel) the probe leads, then the a/c controller will "see" 50ohms @ 32 degrees and "think" the temp. is 60 degrees. Then you can adjust the a/c temp. setting accordingly. ie: if you want 42 degrees then set at 70. Of course you'll have to fine tune by correlating with a thermometer. I think it's a good idea move the probe a few feet away from the a/c unit.

You can buy those heating elements from Aliexpress for less than 3 bucks and they work great. there're many different sizes to choose from, but i found the 2"X2" to be very convenient. www.aliexpress.com/item/12V-DC-50mm-diameter-5W-Round-Flexible-Waterproof-Silicon-Heater-Pad-For-Oil-Tank-Electrical-Wires/32793518342.html

Maybe build one and sell it and eventually sell more at a time. Thanks for info I would buy this thing from you if you sold it gonna buy cool bot since it's plug and play lol. Most people aren't as smart as you I don't know what you do and the time too. Might take too much time for me to figure it out might end up failing buying cool bot at end. Peace G-d bless

  • @mikeguitar9769
    @mikeguitar97696 жыл бұрын

    This could be made soooo easily and inexpensively. The coolbot appears to be a high-end product, and the company is probably spending a lot on marketing, customer service, product features like multiple temperature sensors and displays, etc, so that's why it costs $300-$400. That's fine for them, but a simple product without all that could be made so ridiculously inexpensive.

  • @nodriveknowitall702

    The "reversing switch" is just a relay with normally closed contacts, so that when the temp drops down the temperature set on the thermostat it powers the relay and opens the contact. When the temp raises above setpoint, the thermostat doesn't power the relay and then the normally closed contact closes.

So, insurance paid for a replacement and the cost for getting this old one worked on....going to build a big insulated box to attach the freezer (without the door on it) to the box. I'll control the freezer with an external temp-controller, two stages for heating and cooling....will be able to cool in the warm months, maintain temps in the up and down temp days of fall, and then heat it in winter...all to maintain whatever temp I need. (this is the same I do for a fementation chamber with a dorm fridge, and a keezer with a chest freezer).
