This is where I'm going to rediscover the magic of model making, something that has not been a part of my life for nearly three decades!
I can remember the unbridled joy it used to give me as a young lad when, with pocket money in hand, I'd soon find myself of a Saturday morning eagerly scanning the rows and rows of boxes in my local model shop trying to decide which kit to take home with me for that week's enjoyment. Now I want to recapture that excitement and the pride of a kit well made.

The Box Art is nice. But many of these models were really BAD when compared to the Japanese brands. On the other hand, several aircraft were only available with Airfix. The Beaver or the Sunderland, just to name a couple of them.
That is great you are doing you now
Fantastic artwork...and memories building airfix...thanks Roy for the enjoyment you gave me and millions of others....and still do .
RIP Roy Cross Thank you for amazing arts of Airfix (1924-2024)
So sad he died just a few days ago. R.I.P. mr. Cross.
@@vincentlefebvre9255 indeed he died of his illness just a day after his 100th birthday.
Farewell Roy, you were a great inspiration to me for many years!
I learnt the news from a modelling friend in the UK. Roy turned 100 on 23 April but sadly passed away the following day after a short illness, according to his son, Anthony. I have fond memories of buying Airfix kits in the old hanging bags back in the '60's and swooning over the brilliant artwork on each. I sincerely hope that any re-releases of Airfix kits continue to feature Roy's amazing artwork. His legacy deserves to live on. RIP.
Rewatched, brings back innocence & the world of make believe. Wonderful memories. Heartwarming. Thanks again. Subscribed

R.I.P. Roy, your legacy will live on.
Moving tribute video to Roy Cross & Vangelis. Art I had seen, music I had not heard. Two of the best. Thanks for sharing this.
Sadly, we have lost Roy just after his 100th birthday.
I would love if you started making videos again, specifically the long-form talking videos about what you’re working on. I would be willing to support on Patreon if it were available. Hope all is well.
Couldn't stand the American kit box art for the most part. Tacky horrible stuff that reminded me of the Ed Roth Rat Fink dragster models. But they're Americans and didn't know any better. Airfix all the way.
Beautiful job mate
complimenti. Grazie per il video. Consigli preziosi.
Is Scotch a requirement for producing a good model?
No, just for modelling in general.
Love it
I bet many kits were sold on the strength of the box art I know I bought many and still do
Even though I didn’t own many of the shown models, I do remember their box art. Shows how legendary Airfix and its boxes once was.
Beautiful plane and modeling. Well done! This one had that great combination of design and painting never matched before or since.
Nice good
Yeah right struggling with the instruction sheets. How typical can
that be?
The book on aircraft by nigel and nicola macknight contains most of roy cross es illustrations
Hi, I have always following your videos and work, they all are Masterpieces, congrats!.. I'm a scale modeller too and I write from Mexico City, scale model making si not just scale model making, scale model making is an art!, so, we are scale model makers but also artists and art makers!!..
Did you ever start/finish this model?
Building two quality Merlins sounds like heaven to me. 😊😊❤😊😊
Looks like the kit Airfix could have done if they'd gone a few extra yards.
Did you use primer or something? Just asking cause I‘m pretty new to scale modeling. :)
It was so long ago now, but I always use primer now. In fact, I tend to use black primes and slowly layer the top coat on until I have the desired tone. Not everyone's cup of tea, but works for me. Oh, and welcome to the hobby!
That was fantastic. 👍
Heller did a reasonable 1/72 kit of the P23. I built mine way back in the early 80s.
Fantastic art I only recently discovered Roy Cross's art and it makes me wanna buy a kit to try out thanks for showing it.
Its funny when I bought and made these kits, when I was a lad they came with the correct Luftwaffe markings on them? I am no Nazi, but who ever made the decision to remove the swastika from the tail fins does the men and woman who fought these bastards a disservice and insults there sacrifice and memory. The free world fought Nazi Germany not Germany, and before anyone get on there high horse about my comment, half of my family fought this tyranny and still to this day lay in the country that they fell. Stop brushing out History, or you run the risk of repeating.
Beautiful
If only the present owners of Airfix would turn some of these great works of art into posters they would make hundreds of thousands of dollars.
Thanks for the memories 👍
Looks cool. 👍
Finnish-ish
Nice review. However not ZvEzda, but ZvezdA (The Star).
I love these 1/72 scale airfix plane kits very highly detailed doesn't take up much display case space or you can use a bigger clear case that's for like displaying a foot ball or soccer ball or basketball that is sports memorabilia you can fit 6 planes in one case 4 on the bottom glued down with double sided clear tape sitting on their landing gear then two hanging from the top in flying trip with landing gear up and they work perfect doing that for these little planes saves money for a good way to protect your hard work from dust o can't stand putting a model I spent time building it be one of these or a highly detailed 1/24 scale car I took months and months building and detailing just for it to collect dust like some ppl let them dononcant do it
I very much enjoyed watching your video and wondered. Are you still making models?
for the decals try sealing them in with glossy varnish before you apply the flat coat
recently picked this up to combine with a p51 for a small diorama.
Looking for Blohm & Voss Bv 141 & found this enjoyable to watch video! Love the to the point style of this tutorial video & the music is inspiring to hear! Thank You So Much INAFIX for making this informative video in just 3 minutes , short & nice! 🌷🌿🌏💜🕊
Boy I miss this guy!
Nice work mate! 👍✈️🇳🇿
I dunno if your still reading comments, but how is this kit? I’m relatively unexperienced with model kits but I wanna create then paint an Ace Combat OC squadron me and a few orhers made
I gave tried that kit twice now to no avail I think perhaps I might try again
Amazing, just amazing
Wow, what a fabulously detailed build, Gary. I love the way you even scratch-built the pylons for the underwing bombs; but then, that's typical of the way you work. As they say, in for a penny, in for a pound...
Joy!
