Le cylindre c'est un Stainless steel beer Keg . Cost me a bottle of home made whisky. The rest I built in wood twice because i ran over it with my car!!! No drama it works well. The idle pulley has no bearing, it runs on a piece of very hard wood (the wood is impregnated withe the oil) I use it mainly for black powder but yesterday I pounded some fire bricks with stones to make fire proof mortar.

uhhhh 12V thats a tad bit too high!! and 80 amps but whats your total anode surface area. these things shouldnt be run above 200ma/cm^2 for pH buffered/controlled cells. and should not be run above 150ma/cm^2 for non pH controlled cells. also electrode distance is a little far which leads to loss of product and reduced efficiency. I hope those electrodes are still alive!!

I'm setting up an LV 2 List/Pett to do what you've done so I'm very interested in what I see. What voltage, wattage, phase is your generator? I'm really having trouble finding something suitable. I notice you are driving with a V belt, I assumed I'd be using a flex coupling but this looks pretty sturdy, not to mention speed adjustment. Saw the computer, I guess your passing everything through an inverter? Probably the generator is at same voltage as panels? I'm kindda rambling here but quite impressed.

  • @Frogmobile52

Thanks for your comment and questions. Generator 230v 12 kw. Serpent belt 8 grooves flat on the flywheel and into grooves on the pully. I made the pulley casting aluminium (see video). Ratio flywheel to pulley 1.9:1 Fly 51 cm pulley 27 cm diam. Engine runs 830 rpm, generator 1500 rpm to get 50hz. The smaller V belt is running a car alternator to push even more amps into the batteries. Inverter 6 kw, 9 kw surge also acting as powerful battery charger 12v 130 amp. Runs everything in the house and workshop including mig welding. Battery bank 6x2 v 1300amp/hour. 10 Solar panels (not really sufficient). I run everything on biodiesel including my car. I start the big gene only once in a while when I need plenty of oomph in the workshop, (compressor, MIG etc..) rest of the time the solar is enough. If you have a genuine Lister Petter you are lucky, much better than any Indian stuff. Runs probably at 1500 RPM so you better do a direct coupling. Use a car CV joint in direct line withe the engine. Ratio Kw engine to Kw generator is about 3:2. (1 hp= 0.76 kw). I strongly advise you to go straight into 24 VOLTS much better than 12v for many reasons. I got my gene from the same mob in India as the engine BASANT. If you are in Australia check OZLISTEROIDS I think they have generators too. Good luck. frogmobile [email protected]

@@Frogmobile52 You are running 230V and 12 kw, so are you bypassing your inverter with this/ Or are you using the inverter to clean up/stabilize the pattern? I'm also going to be using a solar panel but where I live the solar is pretty weak so I thought I'd be running my gen at 24V more or less in parallel with the panel. I have read enough to understand the hookup for just a straight solar panel but I admit I'm a little bumfoozled by this panel / generator thing.

@@ronaldj1781 Nord Ontario Alors tu parles Français? I have another genrator 12v car alternator on a 5hp chinese diesel (copy of Honda, runs like a swiss clock but very noisy) It all come to a 12v central panel, solar and all. When I run the big bugger I bypass the 12v system and inverter but the inverter being a battery charger I hook it on 230v from the gene to charge the battery bank 1400 Amp/h. The advantage of direct 230v is that I get unlimited oompf (the enormous flywheels on the big engine provide the inertia when the surge is big for example when welding or compressor startup). The slow reving, the governor and flywheel also provides a very regular smooth current, no fluctuations, and I luv the slow relaxing pompomopom.. If you can get the 16 or 20 hp listeroid MONOcylinder I think would be better than the twin. Here is a great link from North America <www.utterpower.com/listeroi.htm> Happy to help

What part of the world are you off grid in...? Do you solar track your solar panels? Are you a repair station or farm? Nice to have a shop full of toys. I'm assuming you power the shop with single phase 120/240 50cycle? Are listers and clones still available? Your lister seems perfectly balanced and true. One of my crank keyways was factory broached at 180 degrees out causing a wallaby hop. Once redone i'll be anxious to film it.

I power almost everything in the workshop with solar inverter but only one at a time and I need to start the big boy to do welding and run compressor. I am no repair shop though I repair things day in day out... This is actually my home. I do gunsmithing, foundry, machining, electroplating and a few other things like telescopes.. You canb still buy those Lister Clones from Iindia. Unfortunately the real Listers are not there any longer, the firm clsed in 1984. "Wallaby hop? " That sounds Australian? What is your engine?
