I just finished this book for the 2nd time, and I am as wrecked as I was the first time😭😭😭 Turned me inside out OMG… and the end, I literally grieved and had to find peace in God after such an ending. It drove me to read my Bible, to understand why she has such peace and joy in the face of hungry lions. She didn’t experience the pleasures of being with the person she loves. I dunno when I will ever get to that level in my Christianity

I've read 5 KC books and loved 2. Hello Stranger (her worst), How to Walk away (not much better), Things you Save in a Fire (as a teacher, i found this book awful), The Bodyguard (loved), and Happiness for Beginner (loved). I really really wanted to like Hello Stranger but her friend was horrible and there were too many plot holes with the face blindness that was hard to overlook.

For fantasy with no magic, I really liked Heart of Red, Blood of Blue by Rebecca Belliston. It's more a historical fantasy where it feels like it's set in an alternate version of our world. (My book Cursed Wishes also might fit. It has supernatural creatures, but none of the people do magic.) A clean-ish alternative to Sarah J Mass is Lindsay Buroker's The Elf Tangent. Sometimes the humor is more suggestive than I like (it's not Christian fiction), which is why I say clean-ish, but at least everything stays closed-door, and it has elves.
