I’d like to hear season by season analyses. Especially fall.
Consider it on the agenda! Thanks for listening!
Great channel. Nice work crew.
Thanks fella!
Tenkara musky 😂😂😂
It can't be real!
Great, now I can't get the phrase fish coitus out of my head.
Lololol
Great stuff guys! Lots of things that I think about myself but don’t talk to anyone. Great!
Glad to hear it!
How big of a fly could you cast with a 800 grain line?
on the right rod, you could cast most lightweight lures and pretty much any fly ever created. We regularly cast 18 inch huge musky flies with added weight.
@muskyfoolflyfishing Wow that's crazy!
Don't get me wrong. Im a southern Wisconsin guy and I love musky as much as any guy but, I'd honestly would rather put our resources towards healthy native fish. I enjoy catching giant pike down here over stocked musky.
i think you're in the minority! but thats ok. I like that we have a fishery where we can experiment with musky. managing for native species in the chain would be great, but i think the train unfortunately left the station on that one a long long time ago. its also worth noting that giant musky and pike coexist and are not mutually exclusive!
@@muskyfoolflyfishing Yeah I doubt the southern WI musky lakes will ever stop stocking and that's ok really because I still enjoy catching them. I heard the Oconomowoc area has started seeing natural spawning muskies but, no idea if that's true.
@@coldvoid7579 i think you are right about that. they have no plans to stop stocking musky or pike in the chain as far as i am aware. i believe there is natural spawn in madison chain as well for musky but a very very small amount that would not sustain the fishery. It does make ya wonder though!
@@muskyfoolflyfishing Yeah it definitely does. I'd really like to see some research done on the fish that are spawning in the south.
Wow, that's a big musky fly.
giant!
You guys forgot about Sea Eagle boats. An inflatable pontoon boat is perfect for me because I can carry it in the cargo area of my SUV, and I can keep it in my apartment.
solid boats! We covered inflatables! We often put the rafts in our truck bed!
I have just inherited this boat but older model , I want to put a kicker motor on it, I have found the gas nipple but I was hoping you would be able to tell me how to get gas flowing threw the line into the motor , is there a valve somewhere under the decking ?
no idea! I would contact a certified lund boat dealer!
I hope FFS gets banned everywhere so I don’t have to buy it.
pretty much the same...i hope it gets banned so i can get rid of mine :)
How does the Limit Creek Force M1 cast? Positives, Negatives? I know they are very popular with some of anglers where I live. I have heard its a great rod without breaking the bank!
very similar to the gloomis so its a great rod. they are not winning any "awards" from us since they have severe durability issues. that being said, you get what you pay for and its a solid stick!
Great tie Hoss!
I’ve been tying these and adding frog hooks at the loop. Loving the glide!
this is the way! nice!
Awesome glider, do you fish it with just the single 4/0 hook or do you add a treble in there where the loop is?
Both! When we add the treble we cut one hook off.
Thank you for sharing. Great show of materials and hook choice
Thanks for watching!
Definitely going to try this! How long is this front shank compared to the full size?
On episode 549 Rinella put out an offer to fly in and lodge Larry Ramsell to discuss some of the blow back they received on their comments about musky fishing.
that would be awesome! he should! larry will correct him :)
What vise are you using in this video?
renzetti saltwater traveller!
FWIW, I skipped through the entire Meat Eaters pod cast linked here, and I didn't hear anything about muskies?
...never mind - the link goes to the main page - I missed that it's #538.
Rigjt in the first 15 minutes of episode 538!
...you touch on the topic of "managing" our resources to benefit one species or another...and that species is usually one that people want to hunt/catch/whatever. Turkeys over grouse. Deer over wolves. Walleyes over muskies. We should, IMO, be seeking balance. It shouldn't, IMO, be a popularity contest, particularly one based on consumption of the resource...
A thought on the "Kill them all or don't fish for them at all.." argument that some people try to use - and not just WRT muskies: That's a "𝘙𝘦𝘥𝘶𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘰 𝘢𝘥 𝘢𝘣𝘴𝘶𝘳𝘥𝘶𝘮" and that is not, has never been, and will never be a reasonable way to have a discussion. All that kind of argument is, is just an attempt to control the dialog by pretending it's a binary choice when it's not, and to drive a particular agenda. Muskie fishing isn't the only place it comes up...
Rinella is a goofball, same with most of the industry giants.
Steve Rinella has the depth of a july mud puddle, ain't no wonder he's got mass apeal
Seriously though. Who is meat eater
Well that could be a good thing! But they are one of the largest hunting/fishing brands out there.
I've ever heard of meat eater. Sounds kinda sus
Can’t wait to hear Rinella’s view on Grayling 2.0 in Michigan and how we should go back to the “good old days” of taking train cars of them😁
😂😂😂
I love the comments you get when casting at a park
Could the Echo Musky 8'8" handle a 600 grain line?
No. 500 is a lot for that rod.
@muskyfoolflyfishing ok thank you! Could you recommend a line that you guys sell. Mainly for lakes and reservoirs. Throwing 8-12 inch bucktails?
Chippewa 10wt 1 piece has been working for me for 4-5 years now. Only reason I’d try something different is if I wanted to throw truly huge flies.
Such a great stick!
I would love to see a follow-up to this video...your favorite flylines to pair with these rods.
You got it! Thanks for tuning in!
It’s been argued that the line is more important than the rod. I’m just getting into Muskie, but in all the other fly fishing I’ve done it holds true.
Where maxcatch salt pro😢!!! Just kidding a $100 budget is a $100 budget
Probably the best musky fly rod for $100!
@@muskyfoolflyfishingok I’ve been throwing the salt pro around as that’s all I have but it’s been kinda tough I think it’s my fly line. I skimped on to many things. I have the salt pro in a 12 wt is there any line you could recommend that I could use right now and down the road when I get a nicer 11 wt?? Ik it’s. Little late on the reply😅
I’m fishing medium to large sized Mississippi River stretches. But bouncing around to big lakes to.
I think my casting is pretty good though I can throw smallie bugs all day and accurately and fly Muskie line I have with no flies but when my flies get on it’s just not it.
I just need one so I can get a line wet, best beginner fig and setup to get me husky fishing
Echo musky, whuff river wolf, orvis Clearwater are great options!
Great review. Very helpful info as I’m looking for an 11wt for use specifically on lakes.
glad to hear it! Thanks for tuning in fella!
I'm surprised the TFO BC didn't even make the list! 😮 I got the 8wt and 10wt and love em. Some of my favorite rods.
it did not! overall very solid predator rod for slinging meat, but i fear it misses the mark as a dedicated musky fly rod in some ways.
Thanks for your support, Daniel!
I wanna see more of this awesomestuf☝️🙌
You got it!!!
Love it guys! Getting into musky fly fishing in New England
Heck yes! welcome to the dark side!
"Oh no, it's a musky." So disapointed. :P
from utter disappointment to sheer jubilation. I am not a representation of a stable person :)
Refressing to see you guys get as much line F***age as I do
anyone who says they dont is lying! ;)
🔥🐟🧨
I like you guys.
Haha thanks. We like you too. Did we just become friends?!?!?
I just bought my first fly rod and man i really wanna target walleye and musky with the fly soon, couldnt come more clutch. Any suggestions on line and flys
oh we got more suggestions than youll know what to do with my man! Happy to help! Hit us up at the shop or come on in! [email protected] - 608-399-2809
Dang Dan, you have mastered slinging the beast.
my go-to stick big guy! If I can't figure it out than we have no business telling people to buy them! ;) Thanks for making a great stick!
@@muskyfoolflyfishing thanks for slinging em.
@muskyfoolflyfishing hmm we just need a really go to line for that Beast.
@@tomschenk5148 hmmmm a little bird told me its coming :)
@@muskyfoolflyfishing for the love of god do you mean what I think you mean when you say this!? I already have 3 chippy sticks, a line for the 2 hander has been a hunt
Just tied one up. Can’t wait for musky season to open up and try it out.
It can't come soon enough! Hope you stick one on the new fly!
On a different level
The dude has some mad skills!
You guys always have great conversations. I like how it always comes back to conservation and how do we keep our fellow planet cohabitants healthy. While I’m not a fan of live scope, there are way too many monied interests to keep it out of the sport. Your thoughts on limiting harvest by region is probably the best way to manage it. Josh scared me with the idea of jet boats speeding through areas of potential fish, disrupting their spawn. That also took me down the path of the destruction of the watershed it self, with the erosion that would cause. Keep up the good work. I hope to stop in the shop on my way to my place in vilas county this year.
Thanks for the thoughtful response Roger! A good conversation is the first step. Hope to see you at the shop!
I first met Bill in the early 90's and have gotten to know him over the years. I don't know anyone who is more passionate about the sport than he is. Thanks for sharing this video.
I don't know any one either! We were honored to get the chance to talk with him.
Thanks for the podcast guys. Remember to promote the other end of the spectrum - careful handling and release practices. Mortality from too much time out of the water and fatal spine damage from vertical holding of fish harms the resource we alreeady have.
always! thanks for tuning in!
The Madison chain needs to be stocked to remain a Muskie fishery, and it should be but the focus should shift to robust stocking. Fuck the WI strain… Focus stocking fast growing spotted and tiger Muskies. The chain should be maintained. It offers an opportunity for young people to find a passion in something other than their phones. @Josh, you know this first hand. How would I have been able to get so much time on the water at a young age without that opportunity? It should 100% be improved but a new strategy needs to be adopted. It is sad to see the decline honestly.
It for sure needs fish! I am not sure I agree on the tiger muskies or f*** wi strain comment. I'd talk any and all non-sterile muskies at this point! Prefer spotted or great lakes but beggars cant be choosers!
Point being on my comment is that that strain is no longer a true strain. The WI DNR has played mad scientists for so long, the genetics are gone for stocking. Madison chain will not have natural reproduction…ever, IMO and others. It is just not set up for success. Point of the comment is, some lakes just need stocking and stock what produces the best results.
What would your thoughts on the Kalleps strain?
@@baileycl001 zebra mussels = water clarity, weeds and natural reproduction.
Great podcast again guys. Hey has Cap Cities Muskies Inc. been given any assurances by the DNR that they will stock the chain again? I would hate to think that their thought process could turn to,"Well, if they are going to stock it anyways, we should use the DNR's limited budget in another way.".
Right now, the dnr is planning to stock 2600 fish per year in the chain. The issue is that they said they would do that in 3/4 years and it didn't happen. The fish hatcheries in dnr are being run on steadily decreasing budgets.
@muskyfoolflyfishing so just to make sure, they said they would stock more fish but they cut the budget for the hatcheries? Seems counterintuitive.
@muskyfoolflyfishing mark me down for a fly rod to be used for fundraising for Cap City Muskies Inc. please. Let me know of any custom text they would like as well as model of rod. Thanks in advance.
