Watched most of your NC500 vids and you don’t seem to of been to have been to Sandwood bay below Cape Wrath. It’s a must see but a 6.5km hike to get there but not many people make the hike so it’s often deserted. Hope you manage it someday!

Great vid. Just did the NC500 and essentially the route you suggested. Our itinerary was Glen Coe, loch Eribol, Durness, Sandwood bay, climbed Stack Polly, Applecross, Plockton, Skye with Quirang and Storr. Eileen Donan Castle and then into the Cairngorms. Got lucky with the weather. Breathtaking scenery.

Hi we are coming to Scotland beginning of July and a part of our trip is more or less the route you have suggested only in reverse, so hope we made a good choice.

I was planning to do the NC500 this august but I've been warned and put off my people telling me about the midges in Scotland. People have suggested that because the NC500 route is obviously by the coast the midges might not be able to withstand the breeze. Have you got experience of midges, NC500 + August ? Thank you!

Thanks for the warnings. In the current greatly inflated market these vans have started to look almost like a value proposition - some being 60-63K in the vW used segment. I now understand why they sell for just a few quid more than my 2019 California 4 motion: No one is really happy with them and no one seems to be keeping them. I have had a lot of vans over the last 20-22 years but I have not seen a slide-out bed in such a high and large van which so closely resembles a coffin. The kitchen is also a pokey affair with the inefficient fridge design consuming so much of the cabinet. I will look towards a westfalia conversion when it is time to move on from the California and resist the temptation to go for the good value GC option.

Chris, I have a GC 680 in the same colour and have done a few of the same things, best thing I did was extra shelves in some of the cupboards and had the seat re-upholstered in leather and alcantara, I also bought a Bluetooth projector and screen instead of a tv and lastly upgraded the solar and batteries to lithium…everything makes a little difference which all adds up to a much experience out in the big wide World !

You make me laugh so much with your rants ,especially about turning your ears inside out on themselves and telling people what a great place to visit Scotland is but don’t be going when I’m there 🤣 Are you sure you are not going through the perimenopause like me 😂 I love watching van lifers for the different places they visit and the humour and often their joy when seeing a beautiful view or wildlife ( especially Scotland ) not for the click bait crap ! Keep up the brilliant rants , I love it , even if I don’t always agree . By the way think some people watch the content with the above as maybe cannot get to do it themselves due to health or financial reasons or whilst on their break time at their mind - numbing tedious jobs as escapism. 🤣Just my opinion of course!

You are an opinionated sort of chap but many of your opinions are (in my view) correct. I DO watch some vanlife/countryside/camping/climbing/walking KZread channels but increasingly avoid some. I HATE the thumbnails which are clickbait - the videos are mostly poor and I avoid them. I think you can only make money on KZread if you have LOTS of followers. If you have 250K+ followers you may be in a different world and you could obviously have enough of them who are prepared to pay via Patreon or "buying a coffee" to make a living. For smaller channels, probably not. The product-placement adverts are only vaguely useful if you were thinking about buying that sort of product BUT we know they are reading a provided script and they can hardly say "I liked features A, B and C from this product but features D & E were unreliable and feature F failed completely. It doesn't offer good value for money..." There is nothing wrong with people no longer able to do certain things (eg for reasons of age or disability) watching younger people undertaking the trips the watcher can't, and you could follow their adventures on KZread instead. Carry on with the rant, though. You are (and your wife) entertaining.

some interesting points, example bob wells in the USA does i believe have good content, but your comments on the drama is spot on, also the cult of you tube with young couples doing yoga with perfect bodies, also some people are unwell and need a distraction, is it any worse say than being obsessed with pop stars, movie stars, sex symbols, its all symbolic of an emptiness and lack of connection with self and the natural world, sort like an addiction one must pull out of and then begin the journey of self reflection, and the escape from the real life problems. or apathy, I started to watch a certain well know Van you tuber, who`s lets say extremely confident, his early stuff was great, guy pulls himself out of debt yada yada, 5 years later, its all of what you mention drama repeat .. and big ego omlordie ..!!! sad really, or funny. i only follow a handful of people, thats a hard way to make money for sure.

I don't know if vanlifers are a bad THING. But they sure as heck are BAD at faking it all.. I have swampland for sale by the way. Tiny planet was the only truthful REAL vanlifer that ever was. I've seen nothing else yet to this day.

Can KZread viewers really have too much of watching constant Powerbank and Electric Bike reviews on Vanlife videos?, or hearing about how a Van Lifer can cook a Thousand and One different meals on his Ridge Monkey? I prefer watching Van Life videos that have real substance, showing us some of the fantastic places they visit, giving the viewers ideas that they might replicate themselves......not various supermarkets they "dare" to stealth camp in, I've got news for them.....No-One, not a single One, who is working in those supermarkets at night filling shelves gives a toss if you are parked in the carpark outside. And don't get me going on KZreadrs who go to great lengths to deliberately park in places that clearly state "No overnight parking`', just find somewhere else.
