I live close to the borders and I share your love of Scotland. My nephew has just gone off to Mull for a short break and they are wild camping in a van. Thanks to your suggestions I recommended Park 4 Nights and he is having a whale of a time!

We did the SWC 300 a couple of years ago but didn't do any off grid camping. Watching your videos has persuaded us to give it a try on our next visit to Scotland later this year.

We are up for the NC500 in May, looking for some extra ideas on a budget from this video as well as from your others. Keep up the good work.

Interesting ! Being bloody old we waste a lot of money on the nice things, ( food , eat out ) but have lived your lifestyle with kids in tow , never with just ours, and the budget was always tight. We are new to park4night and looking forward to using it alongside of your Scotland book. We have been going to Scotland for 30 odd years in our old Motorhome but times have changed as not quite as free due to all them tourists 😅. We gave up motorhoming 2 years ago due to mobility issues but couldn’t live without the freedom of travel with a shower and toilet so we bought a van . See you on the roads 👍😎

Houses that age are built usually in the local stone no matter where you are because that's what is available at the time of construction. Newton Stewart where you were driving through at the time you were commenting on the boring colours the houses are built of Whin stone a grey granite colour stone quarried near Creetown just along the coast. Aberdeen houses and city buildings are reknowned for the grey granite they are built of and gets it the name of the granite city. Skye houses if they are different colours are probably rendered over stone and painted but then there would be more maintenance involved throughout their lives. It was such a shame you felt Stranraer was rough I haven't found that at all and have now recently chosen to live there. It's really friendly and welcoming with lots of amenities good accessibility and picturesque where I live with views of the Loch and the Rhinns. I notice most people who do the SW350 give it a miss maybe because for some reason it has developed this name for being "rough" however I'm glad I've not found this and don't really know why people consider it to be "rough"?

You nearly had to turn _Miracle on The Hudson_ into _Miracle on The Solway!_ 😂 With regard to doing your shopping on a budget, surely you should permit yourself to bringing a few staple items from home? Also, for anyone following your footsteps, both the Dumfries Tescos (if you can find them 😉) are great for reductions in the evening. Also also, I usually find that planning the week's means and doing the trip's food shop in one go is more economical than doing several smaller shops.

Firstly, yiu didn't mention that you were in Newton Stewart which is a stunning town (next time visit the visitor centre at Kirroughtree), however back to the buildings ... its down to the region and the granite quarry.

See I would have bought weetabix, milk, bread, butter and noodles - drink coffee and tea for beverages - it works for students, and would have cost you very little if you buy the cheap noodles, or not use main supermarkets. I would have hit Poundland, B&N, Home Bargains etc to find cheap food options. Yes you would weigh significantly less at the end of the experiment.. 🤣🤣🤣 I am surprised the van only does 370 miles to the tank.

We barely get 400 miles from a full tank even on motorways. We dont do campsites, not for us. Havent been to one in over 300 nights in the van so not even much of a clue how much they cost either haha

Definitely not. Never stayed at a campsite for over 300 nights in our van over past 2 year. We go to them when we take the kids camping. They not for us unfortunately. We support the communities much more by using shops, car parking, writing travel guides that contribute to the tourism.
