"just a hobby."
so thank you for you who listen to me mumbling about my hobby, as no one i know personally still collect movies, and willing to listen to what i have got to share. you are awesome.
"Real, Unscripted."
so apologies if sometimes my topic is a mess. i tried making scripted discussions in the past, but when it comes to this hobby, it did not feel right. it felt, well, scripted. not natural. i like it this way, like i am talking to my real friends who, back then, would listen to my thoughts.
"viva physical media."
the world of cinema is rapidly changing. all physical media distributors in my country is dead. i desperately need your help to keep this community alive.
"niche of a niche."
i hope that as long as this channel is active, the beacon for Video Compact Disc shall remain, amidst the storm of the Cyber age.

I inserted the older Inova Digimedia VCDs (MovieLine and Dutamitra) into my DBPower DVD player and they were VCD 1.1 too.
Inova's old/early VCDs had me wondering if 1.1 and 2.0 has noticeable difference in reading speed because some players (mine happen with Sony and LG) cannot fast forward beyond 4X smoothly for some of old Inova VCDs, but turns out it can affect both 1.1 and 2.0 although i assume it affects 1.1 more (still need to check this again when i got the chance)

I saw a gold. Vcd of a to z with Barney I will be purchasing it on Friday
good one! its one of my favorite episodes back then, and the song Learning to Spell My Name with Linda and Chip is pretty catchy ☺
Well my DBPower portable DVD player is also able to detect which VCD version it is playing, when it plays VCD 2.0 the PBC On/Off mode appears on screen after the VCD 2.0 text appears (the PBC mode does not show up on screen on VCD 1.1). Samsung DVD players also show Menu Off when VCD 2.0 is detected.
its a small feature that most new players don't have, but an important one for VCD collectors especially if we want to compare both standars. like some players cannot even display VCD menu,, its not that important but we want to see all the features if its available 👍👍
Your voice is funny it's crazy
😂😂
Such fond memories of watching this with my bro and father late nights
Video CD versions will be rarer in the future because only a few countries were big on VCD. No one in my country even knows what a vcd is.
agreed! the format is unbelievably resilient looking back at its track record 😄

HULK VS MENTIONED 🗣️🗣️🗣️ WHAT THE FUCK IS A BAD HALF HOUR MOVIE 🗣️🔥🔥☝🏻☝🏻
just a note: so the audio in this video has a glitch, i'm not sure what happened, its also happen in the raw video file, so not much i could do 😢
The blu rays are superior to the recent 4k uhd transfers. Good buy .
wow! thank you! i did not know about that 😄
Have you thought about switching to 4k UHD blu rays? I know GoT is available on 4k.
its a bit too expensive here in my region, so i only got several 4Ks. i think i'll collect some more movies before expanding to TVs. but if i got extra money and its available, yeah id be glad to add a uhd GoT to my collection 😊 thanks for stopping by!
I too Like the Movie and I LOVE Saphira's Look in the Movie version

update 2024 including the 4K Blu-ray: kzread.info/dash/bejne/fGZtj6WJppabncY.htmlsi=kJBlR-RZA0p5xBCW
I think I remember some DVD Player could run VCD in only certain region. Yes some region has a DVD Player but didn't support VCD. I remember too some VCD 1.1 always do PBC Off while VCD 2.0 always do PBC On PBC is Play Back Control, so it's like repeat but it never be stopped except you press stop button or set PBC Off And some VCD has PBC Menu, so it will run to prompt PBC Menu (if they had one), PBC Menu just like Title Menu or Root Menu from DVD but it only could do with number control and not like navigation DVD menu.
wow thats unfortunate! i remember Panasonic advertised that a DVD player will play VCDs, and Sony used a model with VCD logo on the tray for their 1999 DVD player ads, so thank you for the info that its not always the case. i always thought that a DVD player will always backward compatible with VCD. this gives more context to Techmoan's video about VCD and how he cannot play it on his Bluray player while i can play them in mine. For the menu on VCD as you mentioned, i wonder why some DVD player models (usually newer ones) and all bluray players that i tried, will not show the menu and just go straight to the movies so people cannot really know if their VCD actually has a menu. thank you for stopping by and writing a comment 😊
@@skywalkerhunter95 While I found especially on Karaoke song for PBC menu, I never find PBC menu in movies.
thanks❤
Awesome collection !!
Thank you 😊
better make your legal backups of all your dvds before they rot hard drives are cheap enough to do that these days
I remember I got kate and leopold on Amazon UK and it wouldn't work. There was no scratches or nothing on it. But I think it was disc rot.
I've since rebought it on Bluray.
thats unfortunate! but glad you could find a bluray replacement😊 some of the discs do not show any visible sign! they "look" perfect, no scratches, no visible dark spots/discoloration, but the disc is unplayable.
I'm sorry to hear about your problems with the format. I have never encountered a tape in my life because of which I would have to manually clean the head. These tapes with Cinema Club label were never issued in my country. Unfortunately, VHS is a cumbersome format and it's difficult to call it "universal" because not all tapes are equal. Some are worn out, some are dirty, and others are moldy. My VCR unit has zero problems playing blank VHS tapes used for recording or the tapes from late 1990s/early 2000s, but it doesn't like the very old stuff: heavy tapes from the late 1980s, but I don't have a lot of these in my collection. Then again, I use my VCR very sparingly because I know that when it gives up, it's the end for me. lol I tend to stick to DVDs as the core of my collection.
wow! thank you for the comment! 😊 i was honestly panicked when my VCR refused to play any tape after i loaded Before Sunrise and Hercules. i followed a tutorial on youtube explaining what could cause the problem, and it shows a step by step tutorial to clean the head. i tried it and the VCR went back to normal. but every time i tried those tapes again, i had to clean the head. i'm confused as what could possibly be the cause. the tapes looks fine, and does not seem to have molds building up... i'm even more confused when more tapes acting up though these got no mold and i never dropped them or keep them irresponsibly. the one thing i have not tried is to use a different VCR. its possible that mine is not as good as i thought. i plan to buy another unit, but havent found one that is working properly and in reasonable price. most are asking insane amount of money, and i still fear that theres no guarantee it'll work so i'll just be wasting my money. i don't use the unit very often as i only got a few tapes, and just like you, i primarily use the discs instead. its sad because I do like the format... 😔 its an interesting format, but just way too unpredictable for me. Thank you 😊
@@skywalkerhunter95 No problem. It's not surprising for me that there is a tape without mold, but it causes problems. I encountered such tapes in my childhood. I always explained to myself that there is some invisible for eye residue or grease on a tape that causes the issue. However, usually inserting a cleaning tape into a VCR fixed the issue. For me, VHS is big nostalgia because it was the only format in Poland in the 1980s and the 1990s, there was no Laserdisc, VCD or others. The only major big step for my country was DVD in the 2000s. lol Yeah, maybe your unit is faulty but it's hard for me to determine. If it plays those sealed tapes without problem, then it's best to avoid the faulty tapes you bought. Wish you best of luck with collecting and I look forward to your videos. PS From my collection of about 300 tapes only 100 survived to the present day, half of which are Disney animations.
Icônico 🤩
I watched all extended versions for free from my official tv provider of my country called ‘Astro’.

I have all of those on dvd
that's awesome! 😄
@@skywalkerhunter95also my sister had a lot of Barney DVDs . She has Same ones I had . Even a few of the later shows ones. Like up down on off & big little in out for example My sister got 5 DVDs of the newer shoes today including a Cantonese dvd of Barney a to z my sister loved Barney growing up
Meanwhile I found an ad in a circa late 90's magazine ad (rolling stone) for dvds that said they are good for a lifetime, maybe we should send that ad in with any request for replacement dvds. They were $29.99 @ the time in the early 2000's, more for titles like Once Upon a Time In America which was $39 @ the time and $99 for the Godfather trilogy.
Wow!! thats an interesting and crucial find😯!! its sad that the technology allows discs to last a very long time, but no strong enforcement to follow the highest standard for manufacturers and to hold them accountable. but still, such claim is too bold and should be considered false advertising 😔

This VHS was released 4 days after Stuart Little 2 started playing in theaters and 3 days before The Country Bears did.
hey skywalker what year was this made?
not sure, in another episode, it features physicist Richard Seed when he was 70 yo which should be around 1998-99 or very early 00s...

I may be a late, but if you have any WB ones there very co-operative and they will send you a replacement.
yes! i heard that about WB's faulty discs! unfortunately, it wont cover all areas. mine is region 3, and WB (along with all studios) no longer distribute physical media in my area since over 5 years ago. but even back then, studios did not distribute the discs themselves, and distributors in my area will never replace any faulty disc ( the warranty usually expires after only 1 week). i tried reaching out once to the distributor of faulty Fox dvds, and they accused me of damaging the discs myself, they wont admit defect in manufacturing... 🥲
I bought my set from EurekeMovies in Malaysia back in the day. The front artwork as you say is different. Also, my set only has English text which I prefer. Like you I don’t really watch them, but I love having them in my collection.
And I remember on some of the DVD-cased VCD titles, the subtitles were yellow while others had white subtitles.
I also have a Barney's Best Manners DVD from Horizon as well And I agree with you that Horizon produces terrible DVD quality, my 2007 DVD copy of Barney: You Can Be Anything from that distributor already went transparent.
oh my, thats sad! if only they made high quality dvds like the vcds! even today, i would avoid the horizon dvds when its available in the second hand market 😟
I think I actually had that Super Singing Circus VCD before except that I had the one in a DVD-like case, I also used to have a Round and Round We Go VCD with that kind of case as well.
i didn't know they also released Super Singing Circus vcd using the dvd case! was it on the gold disc, or the regular disc?
