the Mondesir Critique

the Mondesir Critique

Hey TMC Fam! Welcome to my KZread channel, the Mondesir Critique! I have been healthily obsessed with film and TV since I was about eight years old. I've always wanted a passion project related to Hollywood & since all I do is talk and think about TV/Film I figured, why not create a platform where I can do just that! On my channel you will find real, fun, concise, and fair reviews, where I give you the quick rundown of a new or old movie I've seen and whether or not I would recommend it. My reviews will be super quick, all 7 minutes or less. You can watch my videos while you're standing in the ticket line wondering what to see! Short enough for you to duck into a bathroom in the middle of the party to watch my clips, absorb my analysis and head back to your friends so you can say something interesting in the movie convo. I am so excited to share my perspective as a black woman that cares for both the art and the audience. See you soon!

    No matter how wonderful an actress Viola may be. The story is changed and totally depicts the events how they did NOT happen. So, no one wants to mention that the historical facts are all wrong. This should not be called a historical drama movie, when in fact it changes the bad guys into the good guys and vice versa. It is disappointing that a black actress is depicting a fake story about strong black women, when in real life, we have had so many strong wonderful back female heros. There was no need to make up a fake story, when we already have the honest material to depict so many black females as heros.

    Educate yourself before speaking . It’s the one of millions untold stories of redemption and changing their ways to fight then fight back against they slavery system they had in place … and colonialism . Should’ve watched the movie first or studied the many redemption stories in Africa . 💡💡💡

    I understand. I honestly don't think movies need to water down people's histories to make a compelling Hollywood film. I think the movie could have had a sharper focus on the kingdom's slave trade and I'd still be interested in the story. But I also understand the focus on the women's army because it is an unusual historical note. If you were a filmmaker would you have not made the movie at all, or would you have condemned the Dahomey kingdom even more on screen?

    I actually remember when this hit Sundance, and I was really excited to see Regina and Sterling take on these characters. They both did an awesome job, although I think Regina definitely stole the show. The writing, story progression, and pacing is my biggest issue, though. I was hoping it would delve deeper than it actually did. Appreciated hearing your thoughts on this one! 🙏🙏🙏

    Hi there! Thank you so much for watching my review! I absolutely agree, Regina stole the movie! It's her best dramatic performance to date. Yes I've heard other people say the same, that it should have dug deeper on some topics, I can definitely understand that.

    Thank you so much for this review! I watched it yesterday and didn't love it, TBH. But I appreciate you sharing this additional nuance. Sterling was really good in it - even though I prefer him in serious roles. Regina Hall is a whole treasure and she NAILED the inner conflict on her face over and over again. Maybe they can have a sequel where he gets caught again, moves to another city (cough - MEMPHIS - cough) and has children. I think that was the piece that's missing; school-aged children that have social media.

  • @themondesircritique8990

    Thank you so much for watching! I agree it would have been interesting to see additional factors like children and social media playing a role. I didn't mind how contained it was though, to just these two people. And yes I loved Regina's performance!

  • @themondesircritique8990

    Yeah it's definitely more of a thriller, there were only a few scenes that felt like straight horror to me. And yeah she is not really an entertaining main character. The plot is weird and honestly outdated.

    Im so on ur side about the movie. I felt the movie had the star power and talent but it fell flat in execution. The action scenes were incredible. I agree that two leads just didnt have any chemistry. Druig and Makkari and had everything I have been waiting for in the MCU like actually chemistry. They were believable and cute as hell. Im actually looking forward to the sequel tho, I think Marvel will cleanup their mistakes with the first one and bring it on the sequel.

  • @themondesircritique8990
    @themondesircritique89902 жыл бұрын

    Yes! Like the actors chosen aren't bad actors but I think a misfit for the movie, or maybe, they just couldn't bring that script to life. I do think the action scenes were the spotlight for sure. And yes they need to put Druig and Makkari front and center, their relationship is so cute and felt real! I am definitely going to see the sequel, but idk, after Endgame, MCU isn't impressing me right now. But I will give them a chance to try and shift into a new storyline.

    The movie had no plot. You like Julia Garner ...she was dull

  • @themondesircritique8990
    @themondesircritique89903 жыл бұрын

    I think the movie starts off really slow definitely, it could have added other interesting scenes about what was happening at her job. But I think the plot didn't have several layers on purpose, it was mostly a focused portrayal of how something so insidious and disturbing can be happening right under people's noses, during a regular work day, because people ignore it. Not too much action, sure, but it was a honest movie. And Julia Garner's performance can seem dull on the surface, but I actually think she does so much very subtly! Her performance really matches the movies energy: on the surface everything seems normal and pretty dull, but on the inside everything is bubbling up to the surface.

    Hi Anthony! I agree with you, the performances and the action scenes were great, the story line was a bit out there (don't see why some movies decide to go with an overwrought, wild plot, sometimes simpler is better in my opinion, especially with action movies!) but the movie holds up otherwise. Thank you so much for watching!

    I am still trying to unpack what happened watching this film the other night and I think I figured it out. First, let me say that I thought the movie was absolutely brilliant. It’s so tense from the start and rarely lets up. Chilling score, sleek cinematography, and great performances, especially by Elizabeth Moss, who is PHENOMENAL and has cornered the market on playing women under duress! Great review :)
