Spec Ops was founded by Matt Moran, who spent 7 seasons (2015-2022) coaching special teams under the winningest head coach in Stanford Football history, David Shaw. During those 7 seasons, Stanford ranked #1 in the nation in Special Teams, according to Sports Source Analytics. He was mentored by one of the best special teams coaches in PAC-12 history, Pete Alamar, a veteran of 35+ seasons. Coach Moran is a 2015 Rose Bowl & PAC-12 Champion, and went to 4 bowl games at Stanford. He has coached New England Patriots All-Pro punter, Jake Bailey, Stanford kicker & Groza Finalist Joshua Karty, who went 18-18 in 2022 with a long of 61, as well as numerous scholarship longsnappers.
