I saw them play in Vancouver in 1986. They opened with a cover of Bela Lugosi’s Dead! I had my hair dyed black and teased up as big as it would go, along with Cleopatra eyeliner and winkle-picker boots. We were blessed to live out our youth in the last age of freedom, before cellphones and social media. If I called home at the right time I’d get the answering machine and could avoid my mother saying ‘no’ to my asking to stay out a little longer with friends - because there was no way to call us back! We could truly be wild and free, because there was no worry that some creep would photograph or film you and share it with judgemental idiots online who have nothing to do with your life anyhow. We made our own clothes, music, art, and fun. Music and clothes were truly artistic self-expression, not some mass-market plastic idea of sexy. Although we grew up under the threat of nuclear war, somehow we actually had hope. God, what I would give to go back and do it all again. Forget all the BS Musk is building. I want a time machine…

@@PeopleLeeks-kp7eg Thank you for this description of how things were. It's all so true. You really captured the fine points of the post rock and roll era, when new wave and punk were fresh and new and all we had to do was think of something and do it. How much fun it was discovering sounds beyond what we were being fed by the giant labels.
