    So many commentator's who got fed too many Disney movies here. lol Your cat, if it catches a mouse will toy with it for hours and not even eat it, if you let it. Nature is brutal. That includes the "Cute" ones. Great Blue Herons will eat baby ducklings whole.

    A fight for several hours of many Orcas against a sea lion...was it woth it? Wouldnt it be easier to eat some sea weed instead?

  • @AlaskaWhaleanddronetours
    @AlaskaWhaleanddronetours7 сағат бұрын

    I think the Orca are much more efficient when they move through the water than you give them credit for! The amount of energy each orca expended to kill this Sea Lion was probably regained by the first two or three pounds of fat they ate off of it, and there were hundreds of pounds of meat for them to eat! They can’t digest Seaweed. 😕

    I think the Orca are more efficient at moving through the water than we give them credit for, and that the Sea Lion fat is higher in calories/energy than we realize. It might have only cost each of them a couple pounds of Sea lion "fuel" to do all that hunting, in which case the hundreds of pounds they get from it would be well worth it. I guess we need to find out how much energy it takes them to swim quickly like that with lots of jumps and evasive maneuvers?

    He probably could! Only the biggest and most desperate Orca would try for him 1 on 1, too much risk of getting chewed on. But the Orca's greatest strengths are their brains, numbers, and ruthlessness.

    Sea Lions regularly swim out in open waters, diving hundreds of feet deep to catch fish and squid. They hang out together to rest, but usually swim solo when they're out hunting.

    The Orca weren't in any hurry, and most whales don't have teeth like a Sea Lion! They were taking their time, not in a hurry, and finished the job cleanly without any injuries. The ones that take down whales are in much larger pods, and specialize in those hunts. Those hunts can last hours too!

    Playing with their food, One of them could bite him in half. Teaching the younglings to hunt as a team. Give me a break. Like Cheehtas or big cats or Wolves they need to learn to hunt and prey. That Bull seal has no hope against a full grown male or female Orca. It is practice. They are not called the Wolves of the sea for no reeson. Fully grown male or female only have to worry about other Orcas if they not in a clan which is very unusual. Apex predators Training for their underlings.

    Wondering why he stayed at the surface for most of the battle. He could of escaped by staying lower in the water column to avoid being rammed at full force when the orcas reach escape speed at the surface.

  • @AlaskaWhaleanddronetours
    @AlaskaWhaleanddronetours7 күн бұрын

    Maybe because underwater, his only sense to see them is vision, and he can't see too well? The water was pretty murky. Down there the Orca would have all the advantage with their sonar. I think they could ram just about as hard deep underwater as they could have on the surface. I've heard their sonar is so precise that they can pick out the biggest salmon in a whole school of fish! Also, it's an air-breathing animal. So when it's getting chased and hammered like that, it's probably getting winded. It'd be like running from a bear and then trying to escape by holding your breath underwater. Normally might be able to do that for a minute or two, but with an elevated heart rate and adrenaline, and having been running, you'd probably be down to 20 seconds!

  • @AlaskaWhaleanddronetours

    They’re just out there surviving to the best of their ability. Sea Lions frequently do stick together when resting or traveling, but we see single ones pretty frequently when they’re actually hunting.

  • @kode4420
    @kode44208 күн бұрын

    @@AlaskaWhaleanddronetours I agree. Nature is going to take it's course and no one should intervene like some dorks on here have suggested you should. I've personally seen orcas and dolphins be straight up bullies tho is what I meant by my comment. They often pick on animals for no reason and kill them then leave the carcass to rot. Dolphins especially. This seemed like they were using the sea lion to train the younger ones. It looked like they would regroup and "discuss" who would be the distraction and who would give the striking blow. It also looked like three separate orcas did the attacks. Also it's hard to see but I feel like there were two that stayed under the sea lion to keep it from diving and hiding even when the others regrouped.
