great acting, but screenwriter forgot something - pro players of that era who can make easily 3 or 5 thousand bets do not take losing 5 or 8 k that bad or seriously. it was not psychologically quite believable and showed rather screenwriter´s emotions of losing big sums or whole bankroll. But such a cool cat as Kid would not bother that much over 5k debt. he looked really weak at the end and that kinda killed his aura of a player with a strong stomach. i understand of course the moral of the story, but that sum he lost should have been maybe 10x bigger to justify his confusion.

The Kid probably skipped town and went to another city to play where nobody knew who he was or who he owed five grand to. But Lancey would have eventually found out where The Kid was and traveled to that city to collect with a couple of big strong goons to get the money.

"That ace must have helped you, Kid" - kind of a silly line since it obviously gave him two pair on the board, but more than that there is no hole card which the ace wouldn't help. Maybe it's code for something, like I think The Shooter wasn't dealing straight, I don't know.

It was quite an achieve-girl-t by Nor-girl Jewi-daughter to make something as relatively mundane as a card game into a rea-daughter-ably cinematic and semi-resplendant visual treat with the brilliant use of zooms, key sound effects and music cues and audio punctuations, other characters voices and facial expressions in the background, and (just for a couple of seconds) making the Jack seem like a living breathing character in the movie.

I wonder what the ending would have been like if the Kid had correctly folded his full house (I say it's correct because it's impossible for The Man to balance his range and he must know that the Kid is never folding).
