Live in the Tropical Western Pacific - Philippines to Guam - Paradise Does Exist!
This channel is all about lifestyle inspirations... to encourage others to follow their dreams. Life is good in the Tropic Shade™.
It's been 50 years since I first arrived in the Western Pacific, and I returned for good in 2013. On this channel, I share snippets of daily life, in addition to my thoughts, experiences, and opinions from the perspective of living life in the islands of the Western Pacific. Mostly it's about enjoying life's most valued and simple pleasures, along with the unspoiled natural beauty of the islands. It never gets old.

Yes, Biba Guam! Thanks for covering Guam's Liberation Parade. The weather looks good cause it's not too sunny and hot.
Weather was good by me. A little rain never hurt anyone (and I still got some grill marks!)
Sooo good 😂loved the free ribs to go 😅😅😅 wish i asked😂for free good looking BBQ❤
I ate twice there at the parade, then went home and snacked on ribs later that afternoon.

Hi Randy! It was great to meet you while we had our motorcycles staged! It was very nice to see that Terry was in the parade also! You did some very nice drone coverage! Thanks for what you do!.👌
Thanks.
@@TropicShade You're welcome.
Love the down home feeling… and can’t believe how many Harleys !
Always a good time this parade!
I remember my first Liberation event and it was an awesome experience. Some of the nicest people i have ever met. They invited us in there tents etc and shared beer food stories from the past. I have gone on to witness this event 3 other times.
Miss one and regret sets in! 🤣
Place is more patriotic than in the mainland.
By far! Stay tuned for Part II.
@TropicShade Sure will my man!

Hi Terry! Hi Randy!
Morning!
Nice! I love your channel, its not pretentious like many others.
I appreciate that!
Guam Cost of living is about the same as that of New Jersey (give or take). While people in US generally consider New Jersey as very expensive, which it is compared to lower cost of living places like the rest of US, New Jersey is lower cost than New York (NYC, Long Island), lower than Bay area, and with some caveats little lower than DC Area. Home/Rent being the major factor in these calculations.
Would you recommend Okinawa ?
Many say Guam is cheaper than Hawaii also.
It's one place I have never been. I do know it is subtropical (same latitude as Ft. Meyers FL) and if you like Japanese culture, it could be a good fit. I have a few subscribers who live there... maybe they can chime in. I'll post your question on the Community Page and see what surfaces.
Thanks for sharing. It looks like Oahu HI.
It's a wannabe mini Waikiki!
Glad they fixed that road. it was always sketchy we were always walking it down to the beach after work.
Mee too!
We were there just a little earlier in the day... not as many people. Great video. I like how you worked in the scooter ride!
Cool, thanks!
Cool! You must rack up some good frequent flyer miles bouncing back and forth to the islands Randy. Take care.
Watching this has given me a thought about what it would take to maybe do as you both did.

Welcome back!

Welcome back to Guam Randy! I thoroughly enjoyed this video. I was given a short notice about the fiesta, but had already made other plans. As always, I enjoy watching your videos. I watched your recent posts from the Philippines...very informative with real life visuals! Those were great drone shots of the Philippines Community Guam 70th Anniversary Fiesta!😊
Thanks! Like you, we had no notice of the event and just happened upon it. Sometimes there are so many things happening here in Guam, it's hard to keep up with it all!
Great Video
Thanks!
Beautiful! I'm glad the new road is complete and it looks great. I'm jealous for sure. Excited to see your next video.
Thank you!
Awesome video 📹 👏
Thanks 🤗
My stages over 3 decades: 1. Blissful absorption (year 1-2) 2. Disgusted remorse (year 2-5) 3. Disgruntled isolation (year 5-9) 4. Begrudging acceptance (9-15) 5. Numb sense of belonging (15+) 6. Complete indifference (25+)
Now that would make for a much longer video! lol
Monkey see monkey bite.
I don’t like to see animals chained up .
I don't either, a large enclosure would be much more humane.
white rider👍
Stop monkeying around. Nice scooter-I should have purchased the 160 when I bought last year.
When the Peso drops to 50, I'll sell! lol
@@TropicShade Peso future is going higher-2025-2026
If that's the case, unfortunately it means more inflation!
Good luck with your new ride Randy. I just sold my 250cc Rusi. Every smaller bike I have rented had a real uncomfortable seat.
The biggest problem with most scooters today are with the single shock system. What are you going to do for a ride now?
Nice scooter Randy it is a beautiful ride to that beach
Thanks. It's just a 10 minute ride at most.
I agree, shoehorning myself into a pedicab was a sight to behold. I'm 51 now and believe it or not I've never ridden a motorbike or for that matter a scooter. Ireland never had much need for either. I might have to get some lessons before I move over, scooter is looking a little tempting. Great video Randy once again. BTW no tan? You've lived in that neck of the woods for years. I'll be literally transparent 😂
It's those centercars and trikes that beat me up (my low back) with little or no suspension. Riding a scooter is really easy, you just have to come to understand the road chaos here, but actually that is quite simple also. And I do have a tan, but when standing amongst a population of filipinos, I'm still white! 🤣
You have the best scooter. Also, you could be the best KZreadr in Calbayog.
Double thanks! How many KZreadrs do you know in Calbayog?

I agree with you. Foreigners who come to the Philippines for the first later in life have a rude awaking as you noted many times. They hear the stories of how cheap it is, easy to find women to have a relationship. When things do not work out, they begin to have a bad attitude about the Philippines. Some just come without any research prior to arriving and wonder why they are having issues. Both of us, we have been coming to the Philippines for over 40 plus years, for us, it will be going on 48 years. My wife and I were luckily enough to be stationed in Subic on two shore tours which gave us the opportunity to travel to see her family on a small island off of Western Samar. We built a house on the island about ten years ago and we travel back and forth yearly, if possible. I have met a few Americans in Calbayog City and on the island who have adapted to living in Calbayog, and other small towns Western Samar. It all boils down like you mentioned, adjusting to the culture of the Philippines and go with the flow. Of course, there are times we get upset on something that we as foreigners cannot understand or accept. But it's best to let it go and enjoy life in a beautiful country. As for the issues with the dumping of trash all over the land, in the ocean. Behind our house which is about 10 feet away from the water, our house is on the bottom of a "U" shaped barangay that collects all the trash. I have tried to clean it up with the help of the kids or even her sister. Filled up 6 snacks one day and still was not enough. The next morning, we had a trash build up. Last year, the women of the Barangay picked up as much trash as they could pull out from under the sand, and it was just a waste of time as it just keeps coming back. The people just do not care as being on an island, there is just nowhere to dump it for collection, burn etc.
My biggest issue in such a beautiful place... is the trash. Some of the trash we find along our shores comes from other islands. All we can do is attempt to educate and hope for even the slightest change in mentality.
Could use a good chicken shack. Those roosters would drive me batty.
Believe it or not, you get used to it.
