The Guam Donki is Open! Is Kmart Doomed? | Ep 358

The long awaited opening of the Village of Donki in Guam is finally here. After 3 years of delayed construction, we got in ahead of the crowd early on day two. We took a good look around and checked out the price of meats and other foodstuffs. There are some good prices on some things like hard goods, but food prices still seem a little high. This place is BIG!
Included are my thoughts on Kmart closing.

Japanese for sure will check Donki for local stuff. Something they can't find in Japan. They have Guam coffee, chocolates and other Guam souvenirs which tourists usually tend to buy. In Hawaii's Donki, tourists flock to buy stuff exclusive to Hawaii like coffees because prices are much cheaper than in Japan. That's just from my observation and word of mouth.

I think where they will make the most money is in last minute gift shopping before people leave island. Proximity to the airport makes it a good place to kill time before leaving. Check in early then go insane, the liquor and cookies will be easy to take back for them. Anything that says Guam and is less than $8 will move too.

Are you sure Kmart opened on Guam in 1996? I got to Guam my second go around in 1994 on ships. I want to say I was calculating more like 1994 or 95. I was there when they opened it. But I can't really remember. While living on Saipan after getting off the ships in 95, I did run to Guam off and on. The Donki place looks great. I don't think it's the end of kmart necessarily. After all, 30 years since kmart opened up, the island should have room for expansion with the growing population. And Kmarts had a monopoly for 30 years there, thanks to them, I saw prices drop big time on Guam with their arrival. And there is LITTLE CEASARS IN KMART that surpasses any Little Ceasars I've ever seen in the states. Nice video, thanks. How about a DONKI beer price check next time?
