Off Beat

Channel dedicated to music-based video essays while a lot of emphasis on drummers but I try to give some love to other instruments too.

A truly great drummer a passionate and compassionate man as well, treated like shit by some of his peers, Paul McCartney for one, saying that Ginger Baker was on another level as a human being so McCartney wasn't one of his peers.

Two totally different players. You can’t compare them to one another . Both amazing and two of the most recorded session guys in history. Who posted this ? You can’t be a drummer or musician. If you are, you’d better go back to understanding what it is that you’re trying to personify.

They are both phenomenal in their own right. And I like them both. But I'm a bigger Portnoy fan. 😂 Mangini may have a bigger arsenal. But...but...as far as creativity I give it to Portnoy.

: Seeing Thundercat live is like watching a Sega Genesis game from beginning to end in musical form. There's various stages, plenty of boss fights, and it's all illustrated through the performance itself and the light show. The most memorable part was the final quarter of the set (Lotus and the Jondy - Funny Thing - Them Changes - No More Lies). Honestly, it was like seeing Sonic whuppin Eggman's ass, doing a victory lap before the final credits and finally seeing the announcement for the sequel. There's nothing else that's quite like him and his band.

Well,, back not so long ago when music consisted of bands, where people played actual instruments,, it was always so easy for us to idolize those musicians or singers in the mainstream! This was so easily due to the fact that radio stations only played the 'popular' band ie:L Rush, Van Halen, etc,, which, don't get me wrong, had incredibly talented members making them worth the attention they received. But, there are so many under rated, or musicians with vast arrays of incredible talent out there never receiving their just rewards of acclaim! But, thanks to platforms like this, some are getting recognized! Unfortunately the recognition is far after the fact,,, usually after their careers have passed their prime! Sad!

What separates Dart from other fast-playing bassists is he seems note-perfect. You can't imagine the notes needing to be different than what they are. (Very Mozart esque) He isn't doing scales and getting into the right notes, but every note feels much more intentional and musical than someone like Pastorius, Thundercat, Wooten etc.
