Welcome to Alcohol Free RV, where we no longer partake in the drink, but have fun just the same. Here we will share our fulltiming experiences and some videos of bizarre bites - strange foods that we have found along the way! I do have a few beer and cider making videos from before we stopped drinking, but those were part of the journey too.

This video is terrible
What if the pump is not drawing from the holding tank?
I noticed you have plastic on the windows. Does that help with the cold and heat. Can you tell me about it. Stick on?
Yeah it plastic window film from the hardware store. Easy to apply and does help with the drafts!
Can you run your generator? Does it transfer the power from the generator?
I don't have a Gen. This change takes the place of a gen
When you are in Cutties you are in Triboji, IA.
I recently purchased a wired camera system for my truck and travel trailer. It came with a twist-style connectors which are fine for one-and-done but since I'll need to disconnect it frequently, I'm looking for a more robust plug like yours (pollock plug). Can I cut the existing plug off and install a pollock or would that distort the video feed? I've asked the seller but they are not understanding my question. They keep replying the unit I purchased comes with a plug. I'm looking for something more robust than what came with the unit.
I would imagine that a new connector would be fine. As woth any electrical connection, make sure you properly isolate/insulate each individual conductor. The individual conductors are extremely thin. If I were changing the plug, I would cut the plugs off that I want to replace. Then individually make up the new connections, working pin 1 on both sides, then pin 2, etc. I would solder the wires to the plug and use heat shrink on each conductor. I hope this helps!
@@AlcoholFreeAutomotive Thank you for the response. I'll give it a go.
cramped area, but thanks for the great video!
This is not a mechanical failure this is a structural failure. Needs thicker leaf spring hangers all around. I would just have them all replaced with thicker hangers. Clearly lippert should be sent the bill. This needs to be recalled.
I see a lot at my shop. The hangers are less than 3/16 thick. I weld a 2x 2 tube between the left and right hanger to give the hanger some strength during tight turns backing up.
That bracket weld did not penetrate the main frame
Having some trouble with Eclips RV and Lippert in regards the frame damage… anyone know an Attorney handling a law suit for not repairing their inferior frames
Quick question, i dont hear a buzzing sound coming from yours? I have the original 50 amp ats that has the two big relays in it and it buzzes just like every other ats like it. Is this style different?
You asked what botan means, so just for the trivia: Botan is Japanese for peony (the pink flower on the box), but it's also a pun on the word bontam, the Japanese name for the pomelo fruit it gets a bit of its taste from. Such classic candies. :)
That spring hanger looks like something on a two place snow machine trailer.
Sorry i have One problemi un can help my please
Jackstands would probably be very useful in holding up the sheet so that your hands are free to fix your strapping just an idea
Did I miss something but where is the wifi Bridge Set up? That's only the sensor!
love the chipmunk voice!🤣🤣
That chinzy strap holding the side of the trailer tells a lot about the quality of the build.
@0:33, whoever welded that plate on to secure the hanger should be fired. What a terrible job! I can weld better with my eyes closed, and what’s with not cleaning it up and painting it? That is pure trash.
This is evidence of poor engineering . There is no way this would last.
looks like all RV owners need to learn how to weld and carry a welder with them.
Thanks for the video. I’m looking to add the WFCO transfer switch and will want to leave the inverter on even when we’re on shore power as we have some other devices plugged into the integrated inverter outlets. Do you leave your inverter on as well when hooked into shore power and if so, have you had any further issues since you made this video? Thanks in advance…
Yes I do leave it on all the time and no I haven't had any further issues outside of user error trying to pull too many watts at once.
@@AlcoholFreeRV Great to hear and thanks for getting back to me! 👍🏻
Has this been reported to NHTSA, Seems like this is endemic to a lot of RV's.
been following multiple vids re rv frame failures... basic foundational stuff... some of these rigs are very expensive... ive decided against the rv adventure.... better to get some land and build a cabin.🎉
Alcohol Free = Friend of Bill?
Confirmed
I Would until Grand design can get u in they will tires & Make sure the tires R Aligned & Balanced for the RV. U may have to wait Longer but at Least they not u going somewhere where’s else.
I Bet U Don’t Have Shocks on U-R Axles Which Will Help Level out U-R Ride & Make U-R New Ride smooth.
I love free alcohol
Please have your future welders audition for the job before you let them weld brackets. That first bracket that you showed repairs is complete dogshit of a weld. Yea, it might be working right now, but I'd be embarrassed to charge you more than $2 for that workmanship.
That is simply not thick enough metal for that leaf spring bracket.
I think i would have welded all spring hangers just because!!
We had a DRV Mobile Suites, we had made an appointment with Moryde to replace the bearings to the new ones I have heard a lot about, I forgot the name of those bearings. When we arrived at the Moryde Facility in Elkhart Indiana, a tech went under the rig to look at it, he first asked me what was the weight of the rig, he found what the weight was and informed us that one of the rubber springs had broke and the other was about to break. In looking at the part he told us that DRV when they put the axles on, they put the wrong type of rubber springs for the weight of the rig and that caused the break and the uneven wear on the tires. We didn’t know any of this, we brought our rig in for the bearings to be replaced as the rig was 1 year old already. The tech told me to forget the bearings for now, this was a serious issue that needed to be fixed which thank God that part was still under warranty. That part for one was $1500, and they needed to replace all of them. The tech couldn’t believe we never had a serious blow out and accident because of the inferior rubber springs they used. The tech asked if we ever had sway on the rig, we said we had once coming into Kerrville Tx. But blamed it on the road. He said nope, that was the rubber spring failure. Plus he told us they trained the techs at DRV to install the brake lines inside the frame not outside so in case you had a blow out it wouldn’t tear up the brake line because that was the most expensive repair to do. Ours were installed on the outside of the frame which made sense to me. So all we paid for was to move the brake lines inside the frame and new bearings all the way around. We didn’t get the ones I wanted but the expense would’ve been higher had we done them. That was why he told us to not worry too much on those bearings for now and to take care of the most needed repairs that were the rubber springs. Still ended up spending $1900.00 all together out of pocket, for moving break lines inside of frame and new original bearings, one set the tech showed me were already metal on metal.
Pigeon Forge and the Smoky Mountains was a beautiful place to stay at.
I can see buy where it was welded to "edge" of a very thin flange. This was more like a seem weld not a structural weld. You need to "split" a piece of tubular steel, with at least a 3/16" wall thickness, to fit the inside profile of the primary wide flange chassis section so that it extends a minimum of 2/3 the height. And flush with the tubular section reinforcing the beam. Add a tab plate, 3/8 inch thick each side, to attach your spring assembly. Have that tab plate extend at least 6 inches on the reinforcing split tube in the primary support beam and use "fillet" welds, NOT SEEM WELDS. RV axle connections are some of the worst deigns I have ever seen. And will fail over time due to lack of lateral restraint and very thin material. At minimum I can see they added in the form of a tubular (HSS) section to frame at the axles. But I bet they didn't do anything to stiffen the web of the primary load carrying member, the I beam, or wide flange as technically know. Remember, 90% of the weight of your RV is sitting right at these points. This is basic structural steel 101. Thanks for listening.
You two are adorable together! Love it.
Common issue due to stress. Should all ways strengthen and repare all at the same time.
Spring mount problem Poor factory welding . Should never happen.
Why do people by these pieces of junk ? Those brackets look like something off of a child's toy.
This was handled under a recall on my rig.
I just watched this video on the dill garlic cheese I got some for Christmas and didn't know what to do with it this video was perfect and so now I know what is in the can. Thank you this video was great
So cute!!
i would not buy any r.v. that has a Lippert frame period!!
Many of the leaf hangers these days have an extra angle welded within the bracket to help prevent this. In addition, I welded a cross member across the trailer to each hanger to prevent side to side bending of the hanger
crossed it in 1976, im a old pickup with a rope tied to each door to keep them shut
looks like you could some new spring eye bushings
How to you fix the leak from underneath the plastic?
What's the thin metal above the tire. Is it to prevent damage during a blow out? Did you make them, buy them or it come on the camper? Thanks
Did the side to side movement stop or was less noticed after the brace install
You may have just saved me a couple hundred $ and a bunch of work replacing something that didn’t need replaced. My symptoms were different- the pump came on intermittently while no faucets were on. It was getting annoyingly more frequent to the point we’d flip the pump power switch on only when running water. I did not know the backflow was adjustable until this video. 🙏
