Ewetopia Farms is located in Ontario. Our operation is a large scale, registered Suffolk and Poll Dorset sheep farm combining the best of pasture and confinement to manage the flock for maximum comfort, minimal stress, and producing a consistent, very high quality product. Our focus is on providing breeding stock for sale to other sheep producers.
Our goal for all our sheep is to produce high capacity, prolific ewes and well-muscled, conformationally correct rams that will improve anyone's flock. It is not about quantity but quality. We look after our sheep by keeping them healthy, properly fed, handled and treated with the respect animals deserve. A well cared for sheep will also be a more profitable sheep. All farms are different so what we do may not work for you but they may offer some insights, ideas and hopefully some humor!

    Lynn and Arnie, you guys are super shearers. I’m so glad you have a moment here and there to do the job. 🐑 Had to chuckle at the nosy lamb! She certainly wanted to be involved. 😁 I just want to snuggle wee Spartacus. I can understand how mom feels. She’s so protective of him and truly loves him. Has the little guy tried to nurse on her? Miss Muffet…she’s going to be an awesome ewe! 💛

    It is really good that you noticed the cast sheep in time to save them! It sure was challenging to get the sheep out of their barn. It's too bad that it's so humid there. Those shearers were the perfect gift. I'm sure she loves her new haircut lol! That ewe lamb really looks like she has attitude for sure. The sheep looked like they enjoyed moving barns, there was even a little hopping! It's so nice that Arnie is back on the fields. Little Miss Muffet is so gorgeous! Hopefully you guys and the sheep stay cool. Ii just can't believe how well Spartacus is doing now. It's so good to see! Have a great day and see you tomorrow. ❤🐑

    I often have to promise international friends that I'm swearing to tell the truth, about seasonal outside working conditions in Canada. They get get it that we have snow and cold in the winter, but can't quite get their heads around our extremes. Although this past winter was way milder than normal, we have to be ready to dress for summer to winter temperatures from +40° C to -40° C.

There was a lot more to it then just the animal, but it was wonderful to hear that one of the chicks I produced took Grand Champion at the 4h show (chick chain). While I’ve enjoyed your videos, they are becoming harder to watch because of the state of the barn and the sheep themselves. Do you ever pressure wash the barn to get it clean and remove cobwebs? The sheep seem to have a lot of dangling wool off their pelts. I realize that you don’t have farm help, but maybe reach out to 4H or the local college ag. Program for an internet to help?

  • @EwetopiaFarms
    @EwetopiaFarms22 сағат бұрын

    We are still waiting for our shearer to come - that is totally out of our control. There is no 4H, ag colleges, etc in our area. Our barns are way cleaner than average but those old barns are much harder to make look "pretty ". We have them whitewashed every few years but they are physically cleaned by us regularly and as you may have noticed, we rarely have sick sheep because the environment is actually extremely clean. I must say, you are the first person to say our farm is dirty. Most people can't believe how clean our place is. New barns look much cleaner because of the materials used whereas the old dark wooden barns appear dirtier. However, at the end of the day, sheep health indicates the conditions on your farm, and I am extremely confident that our sheep live in a way above average environment than many

    So good to see Arnie on the fields! Those 2 fields of alfalfa are incredibly lush and green. The hay will be second to none. 😊 Little Spartacus has grown into a feisty little guy! Love how gentle mom is. She’s such a good ewe. Wow, the 2 4-H lambs were beautiful and so cute in the back of the car. Loved the pics of them and the Dorsets at their new homes. Both sets look very content in their new environments. Lynn, your flowerbeds are spectacular! The yard is truly a little bit of heaven. Buddy is in his element there too as is Ben who, I think, has become your sidekick the way Katie was. Incidentally, if you plant some catmint in a pot (not in the garden or it will get out of hand) Buddy will immediately lay on it. Cats looove catmint, lol. 💚

    I have never heard of cat mint. Is it the same as regular mint?

  • @Mary-F
    @Mary-F21 сағат бұрын

    Its official name is Nepeta. It’s from the Salvia family and blooms all summer, if you prune it after the first flush. Not sure why cats love it but they do. I bought a plant once and it attracted the neighbour’s cat within a day. When it started to spread all over I put it in a pot. The cat would come to sit in it, lol. I’ve also had regular mint in a pot but cats don’t bother with it. Salvia is great in the garden, however.

    Lol, I understand lambs riding in the car. I work nights as a med tech so I take my 2 bottle babies in a dog kennel on the back of my car to work with me to feed them and keep them safe at night. However, they are getting too big to do that with so they are going to have to get used to being in the barn until I get home. I don't worry about the lambs with their mom's because their mom's protect them pretty good. But since I am the mom I didn't have much choice. We have coyotes and for the most part they stay away from the house but I have seen them close if they get hungry. My sheep even headbutt the dog if she starts annoying their babies too much so I know a coyote doesn't stand a chance to grab their babies through the fence.

  • @EwetopiaFarms

    Yeah I couldn't leave them. They will be 2 months old in a few days and eating plenty of hay and grain now so I'm not as concerned if their bottle is a little late as long as they get it. I took your advice and going to let them keep having a bottle a little longer. I do notice the lambs on their mom's are slightly bigger than the bottle babies so I don't think it will hurt them.

    What a busy , profitable day! Out in the fields Arnie, doing what he loves. I enjoy hearing about your farming system, the why’s and how’s. Mother Nature just needs to cooperate well this year for you. Selling sheep and weaning day is a sad day when you love sheep. I’m sure the sold sheep will do well in 4H. Thank you for showing their new home. The weaning is sad to hear the whining all day & during the night, but weaning is absolutely necessary. It’s like a passage to adulthood, another growing up stage. However, I know your heart will make sure every lamb, and momma, is doing ok through this process. I Love how Spartacus’ mom is doing those mommy things to her lamb while you feed him. Show that she really loves him. She might not have milk, but she ‘s showing her love and care, especially since she is feeling much better from giving birth. Your gardens are looking so beautiful. We really haven’t done much down here. Trying, but the weather was too cold, or wet, etc. even had tornado or two, which is rare, in our area. Thanks for sharing another busy day at Ewetopia Farms. A big payoff of Lynn's hard work to develop relationships with her sheep, is being able to do things with them that defy logic. Transporting two lambs in the back seat of a vehicle, with them calmy enjoying the ride, speaks of many days building trust. I sure wouldn't try that unless you were positive they wouldn't freak out and try to climb into the driver's seat with you, when travelling down the highway.
