Michigan is a great state that has a lot to offer. It has a Great Lakes lots of fishing and woods for hunting. It’s really a beautiful state but it’s poorly ran by politicians for years. Especially the current idiot sitting in the governors seat. if I could take my job with me, I would leave here. I don’t believe in paying taxes to the state when it’s so poorly ran.

Born in Hell, Michigan… (always fun to say) I tried living in Texas and Wisconsin, I’ll never leave Michigan again. Getting out of the city and moving to small town up north next year. I pray we get a better governor though! I like cooler weather, anything over 70 is too much… 60-65 is perfect for me 🥰

In Michigan we outlawed gerrymandering. This led to Republicans losing or failing to win the State House, Senate, and the Governorship. We even enshrined reproductive right in our State Constitution. Those reasons alone are why I will never leave, let alone the forests and the lakes.

Why do you talk about the average cost of houses in Michigan yet you show these gigantic McMansions in the video? The house I grew up in the Detroit suburbs didn't look anything like these houses. How about something a little more modest!

Michigan is the most discrimating state. I went to Vietnam and was in federal law enforcement. I was turned down by the state police for being 1/2" too short. After that it was low paying dead end jobs due to affirmative action. Jobs weren't based on qualifications. Also, the legal system is bias. My ex forged my name on a home equity loan, moved everything out while I was at work taking my 2 and 4 years old kids moving in with a guy during the divorce. She made trips to Florida while collecting off WICK. Denied visitation due to her selected weekends while I was in the military reserves. Her and her parents made up things regarding me turning the kids against me. The only concern was the money flow to her rather then the best interest of the kids. The next thing is Whitchmer never "fixed the damn roads" since she got in. Made trips during the pandemic not following her guidelines. There's poor air quality at times. Everything is based on the one and only auto industry. The weather is unpredictable and dark most the time. Politicians are corrupt. While everyone was losing benefits and decreasing pay the politicians voted themselves pay increases. The only reason I stayed was when I got older I didn't want change and to start over in an unfimiliar area and I like the four seasons. Here's another thing! You got that sheriff in Genesee County that glorifies prisoners. They get health care, family visits, recreation, family visits and now get degrees off tax payers expense. The economy was bad and I had to take a $12.00/hour job with a bachelor's degree. A guy comes in obtaining jobs for prisoners getting out. He asks a woman in charge of labour relations about starting pay and after that the prison recruiter claimed that his clients couldn't work for that and would end up going in. I probably would have a better job if I went to prison. You got immigrants coming in now raising crime, collecting welfare, and taking jobs. The judiciary system is hosed along with the politicians running the state. There's sales tax that went up to 6% from 4%. Gas tax that was suppose to pay for the roads. A corrupt FOC accounting system in that they keep people arguing after the divorce in order to make them use the courts so the state can make money charging fees. Useless programs like SMILE prior to finalization of a divorce. My ex put that program to shame. To me people leave due to our political leaders.

Basements are nice! I don’t understand why more homes in other areas don’t have them. We had a “bomb shelter” room too. There’s a lot to like with Michigan! Very nice lakes! Beautiful falls! The lack of sun gets oppressive from Nov - April. In west Michigan spring weather doesn’t start until June. Just cold and cloudy. As others mentioned the property taxes are brutal!!! I don’t understand but most people don’t know it. Especially for new purchaser or second home owner, you mentioned lake homes. Car insurance has improved but still very high. Cost of living in general pretty good. This is from 40 years of living here!

Detroit has reinvented itself over the last twenty years. Kilpatrick bankrupted the city and went to prison for it. Dan Gilbert (Quicken Loans, etc.) and the Ilitches (Little Caesers Pizza) pumped a ton of money into the city. Decimated buildings were purchased and renovated. Gilbert recruited businesses to come from the suburbs to Detroit and offered rental incentives for doing so. Homebuyers were offered special credits for purchasing in Detroit. New venues were built for hockey, baseball and football. From being the 5th largest city in the US in the 70s to a city in decline, Detroit has emerged from the ashes and population has been on the upswing this decade because of all the D has to offer and the affordable cost of living in Michigan.

Great video, ! Well, I was pretty lucky because my purchases date back to 2010/2011 but I have a nice condo in a high-rise in downtown Detroit, as well as a nice contemporary home on a beautiful but smaller type lake ( 100 ft. Frontage all sports, immaculately clean ) in northern lower Michigan, and my total was about 450,000 for both. Now today would be much more, but Michigan is still far more reasonable and allows people to do things like this much easier than people on the coasts that’s for sure. I really love Michigan, best of both worlds for a reasonable price.,

Thank you for your video. I taught there for years, and children tell all. Unfortunately, with this technology driven world, Detroit will only become more unsafe. There are children who are practically raising themselves their siblings. I have seen it all, I can name off my students who have died from gunshots, overdoses and so on. I loved my students so much, but one day you have to realize that there is truth to being in the wrong place at the wrong time. You also have to understand that technology has put a super learning and working gap between people. Poverty will increase due to many factors, but one being technology. There’s a cold reality to this picture. So, no I wouldn’t move anywhere in Detroit. And, truth be told, robber, Car jackers, etc. are going to Palmer Woods before they waste their time in the hood. Think about it.

Michigan's population has actually grown by 48,000 over the last ten years and last year Detroit's population began growing again. Thank God for Governor Gretchen Whitmer and Detroit Mayor Michael Duggan. Maybe they should change the name of this channel to "False Lying". Michigan is a great place to live, but I hope the population doesn't increase too much since that is what spoils places that were once great places to live, overcrowding.

The truth is that people rarely leave anywhere if there is a lot of economic prosperity. If you are living phat, it doesn't make a whole lot of difference where you do it, the question then becomes, why should I leave? The idea that some people in a given field leave because there are jobs elsewhere is true, but that should make ZERO difference on average. People accept jobs out of state in the industry they are trained for or experienced in because it pays better relative to the cost of living. Some will get shuffled around, but if everything else is the same the net effect is zero change. People leave their State almost exclusively (on a net basis) due to economics. Michigan is not well run, that's our problem and it's more of a Mayor problem than a State problem actually. Don't tell me it's weather, there are states with far worse weather, that are not even as close to as beautiful as Michigan, where they have added population. Go look at the list of states that added population and trust me, lots of them are not even close to being as "Nice" of a place to live. I've lived all over the country and talked to so many people, yes some will say they love their state because of XY or Z, but almost everyone who moves to a new state does so because of opportunity, for one, just leaving your family support structure behind is hard, you don't often see people leave that security based on weather that they grew up with.

My wife and I moved to Mid-Michigan from Western New York. Our reason for moving was to be near our Grand children and children. Being retired made it easier because we didn't need jobs. Also, property taxes here are very low compared to NY. We save $500 a month in taxes and have a bigger home and double the land here. You have more freedom to do things here that back in NY are so difficult and expensive to do. 2nd Amendment Rights are encouraged in Michigan. Lower Sales Tax here. And what we like a lot, is not dealing with 7 foot blizzards off Lake Erie. So winter in Mid- Michigan is mild compared to Western New York

Michigan is really two states. Detroit and its suburbs have quality of life problems. The rest of the state, particularly West Mi., have jobs for anyone who wants to work and a great quality of life. Because of Detroit's political power, outstate Mi has had to support SE Mi for the last 30 years. The makers are required to support the takers.
