Playing video games has been increasingly less fun. But complaining about video games has been a nice outlet.

Long(er) form reviews of games that have been out for several years. Fairly critical analysis that (hopefully) articulately delves into game design. Mostly, I repeat myself and yell about how games have become far too fast-paced and frantic.

Sweat beads down my ribcage when I play Overwatch and I don't even particularly like Overwatch.

Y-Wings are underappreciated.

    I'm really glad that I found this review. I thought I was the only one that found this game mediocre absolute best, and somehow associating the effort of the community trying to polish this third as the game originally being good. The only thing that makes this game somewhat okay is the hard work of the dedicated community, not the developers

    Glad this video popped up for me, it encapsulates all the issues I've had with the game that I've experienced over the years. Though, you won't see me saying no to a 48v48 massive map battle with NPCs and a ton of objectives to do. I think it'd help in situations where the murderball is is murderballing to have a 'Surrender' mechanic that you vote on -- THEN the dropships show up and start picking you up. Well, y'know what they say about wishful thinking.

    Dice needs to remaster BF2, all they need to do is polish the graphics, sounds, animations, sounds and hit boxes, while preserving all the mechanics. What strikes above the newer battlefields, are the vehicles. Each vehicle had a place, like an ecosystem, that ecosystem got removed in the later battlefields. DICE and EA just wanted to pursue COD, and that's what we saw in the Frost Bite games. Also the BF2 Lore was dope, including the unique MEC and how each weapon was exclusive to the factions.

    Faction specific weaponry (aside from unlocks) made each team feel a little more unique. I was never a fan of "everyone gets everything" but, hey, you gotta make players grind for something. A BF2 remaster: ASSUMING THEY KEEP TRUE TO THE DESIGN PILLARS, HERE, would be an easy community win post 2042.

    might just have to reboot the game entirely, one of the major issues is that the games on Cry Engine 3, which is very undersupported engine series generally from what staff have said. The hope for me would be to just have MWO2 spin off from the MW5 Unreal spur, you can potentially port all the same models up the new engine pipeline. Honestly though people are mega critical of MWO but like, how many 11 year old 100% online games are still up?

    MW5 is in unreal: I imagine some of the work has been done to move MWO over and/or PGI is somewhat familiar. A reboot isn't necessary but an engine switch might be beneficial. I want MWO, MW5, and the franchise to be great and I remain critical in the hopes of helping propel it up there.

    I was about to object to some of the things listed as features starting in BF3 like automatic health regen, because I don't remember those. Then I remember that I played a lot on custom servers with those things turned off.

    Classic mode on BF4 is a wonderful, BF2 esque settings preset that I wish more people would enjoy.

    It's a matter of perspective. If you are happy to have a small studio create a game that can be modded into the game of your dreams, then all is well with the world. :)

    mechwarrior 2 mercs post desolation isolationationalsm is probably the best... it has this vibe of...everyones been destroyed and you're just rummaging the scraps thats left. and its glorious

    I bought the DLC at 50% off and started playing through it to review them. It's been a bit of a slog to get through it.

    @@birthdaytruck Since posting this, I've decided I do want to play a heavily modded playthrough, but the hardest question is what mods will give the most satisfying run? (Or do they build on each other making it necessary to get them all?)

    @@thoughtthru1848 I have a mod list in the comments somewhere - scroll down a bit and you'll find it. You'll have to verify *each* one for compatibility post DLC 4. Many good ones are no longer compatible. You'll also have to verify compatibility between all the mods. I believe the TTRulez_AIMod2 to be the most influential; followed by Better Spawns 2.0. My personal favorites were ADC ballistics and Realistic Weapon velocities. Both made MW (really a tank game) play much more like a tank game. There are standalone overhaul mods that you can consider, too, but if you're trying to keep MW5 a "MW5 +" experience, I can't recommend them, yet.

    The thing I like is the multiple factions and the galaxy access we have. Story wise - I agree. We can not form a base emotional attachment to the MC as it supposed to be. This is due to lack of anything we can connect - we can’t self insert. While in vengeance we couldn’t either, it was the actors who sold the story of why we should be committed. I really hate the place where we spawn in the hanger and force us to walk to our XO…especially when THATS all we can explore in our dropship. Hell in drops ships I thought we’d get those circular ones…

    If by circular ones you mean the larger Spheroid (Union, Hrothgar, etc) ones, then YES. A single leopard never made sense to hold the dozens of 'mechs you collect. There actually was a spheroid dropship in the early, early MW5 sneak peak/demo. Wish it was still there.

    @@birthdaytruck I just found a mod that replaces the ship with a Union Orbital dropship - with interstellar travel model replacer, deployment, and interior design It works with other mods too

    @@birthdaytruck I found another mod that works with the Union dropship replacer. It arms the dropship with several PPC, Large lasers, 2 Guass, 2 AC per wing (that shotgun weapon) and 1 LRM Now the drop ship has justifiable weapons I engaged god mode and parked near the landing zone and watched for 20 minutes as the drop ship absolutely destroyed waves of mechs, tanks, and helis- definitely recommend

    Most of their non-fighter designs are only designed for a look, not for actual function. If their universe was real many of their ships would never be bought by anyone. There is so much dead space in some of their designs that it boggles the mind. What good do huge wings do on a lot of their stuff when there are not a large number of weapons mounts on them? The C-1 line is a perfect example, the Corsair another. An intelligent and functional design would try to lose as much mass as possible, and not weigh down the ship with useless frivolities.

    These looks can easily be made into function; I don’t think the corsair should hold away but for $200+ you have to sell un-gimped functions

    the game become really unfair to play. all users had basically higher quality gear, would alpha you from a mile away, no scaling, no way for a new player or casual player to climb the ranks and resources. and I got the founder supporter pack.

    The map size and structure was the biggest deal breaker for me back in the early days of MWO. I think they need to add more mobility mechanics to make flanking easier. Maybe a dropship mechanic that allows you to load up and fly around at the cost of being a large target and potentially all going down with the ship.

    I’m totally committed to state a letter writing campaign to get the copilot seat functioning as it should. CIG says it wants crew play. But total skipped over the copilot seat

    I'm waiting to see what "reworked MFD and HUD" in the progress tracker becomes. If it allows us to start delegating functions to the Co-Pilot seats, then I'll put my pitchfork down.

    This is master class content creation. Goes to show that talent doesn't always get rewarded on youtube, as in life. Another aspect of the game I find disappointing, well, two aspects, is the lack of a campaign (either solo or co-op) and the extreme learning curve. I played quite a lot when the game first released, but since then I've attained 3 degrees and am busy with a career as a weapon systems engineer for BAE. I don't have an awful lot of time between work and family life, so jumping in to the game in its current state is often overwhelming. I spend more time in the menu system than in battle, and I'm pitched against players who live and breath the game. I know its a "get gud" issue for me, but I don't have time to get anywhere near as good as what I need to be to have fun in the game. I've been gaming since the 80's, even regularly placed first in the Star Citizen leaderboards circa 2.6 thru 3.0 builds so I'm not lacking in general gaming skill, but the depth and complexity of MWO (which is a good thing, btw) is also a curse for people who want to play more casually. I can't imagine someone who has never played the tabletop battletech games in the 80's and 90's, and who didn't get to playing MW2, MW3 et al, trying to get to grips with this game in any kind of hurry. The complexity is great, but it's also a curse, and would drive away a lot of potential new players who just want to have some fun with the few hours a week they have spare.

    Imagine having to ambush the enemies assaultlance with nothing but urbies because your own team invested heavily into artillery in the last match and now has to save up C-Bills for the wider campaign. But what the enemy doesn´t know is that one of your lances was swapped out for a lance of the allied Big Mac and the next inbound leopard wave will drop off 4 T-Bolts

    A year late but KZread recommended me this probably because I've started getting back into MW 5 with a custom careers run. As someone trying to do a solo mech start where you slowly build up your mechs its' a nightmare but the difficulty pumps the game up quite a bit (as long as its' not assassination missions.) Also fun to see Mongooses, Stingers, and Wasps with modding instead of the usual Locust and Jenner. I don't know, I'm just starved for mech games every once in a while. I'm glad AC 6 came out but I still like the slow lumbering Mechs (I find the MTs more interesting than the core frames.) Phantom Brigade was probably my favourite of last year, though.

    MW5 was built to play with friends. I played it by myself on PC when it first came out. But once it came out on console is when I really hit my stride. The fun I've had trolling with buds is unparalleled. However, that's a problem. Truth be told, at least we got one cause it wasn't looking good for a long time.

    It always surprises me how much love this game has been getting recently. With all the new weapons and what not. I started playing in 2016ish and am having a blast with everything that's been added over the last year or two.

    I think a game mode that could be fun and would fit into the triangle idea potentially. Maybe something like a LZ control. Game starts with scout mechs only. (Could even have them being the only ones that can capture LZ) And scattered around the match are LZ areas tied to specific weight classes. So the assault mechs won't spawn right away. Could give the un spawned mechs different things to do before deployment (air strikes/Uav recon ECT.) would make for a more strategic game I think.

    Any game mode that mixes the focus away from "just kill the other team" is welcome. Respawns, repair, retreat, and re-arm mechanics would go a long way.

    RSI should put more focus on making the story or the Econ system to motative players to play together. Most of the player just play alone, and RSI keeps making the muti-crew ship even the co-pilot seat not full develop. What the points.....and they just announce for another drake cargo ship.

    I was bummed to see that nothing worked in the newest patch. I can't even turn on the screens in the co-pilot seat anymore. I'm hoping that means a substantial overhaul, but it sort of sucks to have nothing else to even pretend to do now when running with a crew. In fact, because you need to be seated to be g-safe, and you can't even manage inventory while seated, it's actively punishing your attempt at teamwork. It's like they implemented the punishments before ensuring the rest of the platform functions.

    No, I don’t think I have anything unique enough to add. I loved Fallout 4 for as long as there was a mod that let me do what I wanted. Eventually, the mods ran out.

    Battletech fandom is but a wallet on legs, easily available to pick to PGI. Im sure we could have had an ok experience, but PGI mid development decided to trash all there work, to take the Epic games money, having to restart the thing from the ground up. What we got was half ass… the treatment of those that dared to buy the epic games exclusive then got treated like the founders they were… For being th only ones to invest in the product you got 0 updates for a year and no new DLC until it released on steam… wow what an exclusive. Never forget never forgive, PGI doesn’t deserve a cent. I have no intent to by clans until it is 2 years down the line. But hey may pirate it before hand. And yes clans likely will bw the mechworior 5 we deserved…. But its built upon a mass grave and our funding our blood, our sweat our tears!

    My friend got a Cutblack black and we can't seem to Desactivate Vtol mode in PU. It seem like it could be a bug link to Copilot seat as he was messing with it a little bit. The LandGear icone keep blinking so we wonder if that what could coz the bug. the landing gears overall seem to act weird ( disapear when approching ground, being half deplyed when landed when they suppose to be out etc.... If anyone have any idea what it could be, you'll be our Hero for ever

    I'm of two minds about this. On the one hand, I want Star Citizen to be a good and complete (honestly just complete) game. On the other hand, I want to continue to listen to you make excellent criticism about Star Citizen.

    Thank you - I honestly think Stanton is big enough for content to be consumed. I'd love to consume SC content with working and entertaining co-pilot seats for my friends. I'd rather make videos about how cool SC is, but I can't just yet.

    When he says no mechwarrior games has made it this great he means ones you have to pay for... Mechwarrior living Legends is better and more fun then MWO, it's fall back is exposure .. no one knows about it.. if thousands of people suddenly showed up at the same time it wouldn't be as empty as it is because more people makes it more fun.. when there's 32 players in a single server the battles are I credible with mechs , tanks, artillery ,vtols and aerospace all being piloted by actual players NOT. Call of duty call in strikes.. you are actually in a longtom.. or are doing a bombing strike in a shiva ... Search MWLL and try it out its free and the players helpful

    Some ships let a seocndary seats use missiles, I remember trying it with the Corsair when it came out. We can cross fingers for at least some of new stuff with updated MFD pass

    Not defending CIG here but afaik the MFDs and most of the HUD is basically on their last legs, they're about to get replaced, they're incredibly unlikely to fix any issues with them. I agree this stuff is really annoying though.

    There is the announced MFD and UI rework incoming; which is great. What I really need to see is the thought leadership: I worry those MFD and UI reworks coming for alpha 4.0 in Q3 are only for pilot-focused features.
