    I'm actually going to use the engine and front axle from a 504 on my 340 because finding parts for the 340 is impossible to verify expensive. Not to mention getting rid of the steering system that is obsolete for a hydraulic system that is serviceable. You have a great running tractor there and it's happy cutting grass.

    That sounds like an interesting project. I have a spare 504 I bought for parts. Unfortunately , it is missing the front end. It runs but the block is cracked. The 504 has been a good tractor and many of the parts are easy to find. Other parts on it are not so common. I’d appreciate it if you post that front end swap if you end up doing it. I’d like to see it done.

    @@P61guy61 I done a few rough measurements and I'm thinking it's a easy fix for the junk 340 steering box issues. I already have the power steering system for the supply and it comes out of the secondary pump in the transmission. Plus I have the big 17 gpm main pump. So fluid capacity is not an issue nor my Fab skills 😂. I'm ready to make a good tractor great.

    As a child in my motherland, mes amis, I read the memoirs of a chap who was a combat pilote of one of these in WWII. He claimed that the Flight Manual stated that the glide-characteristics were SO poor, that if the engine stopped, you should bail-out (if high enough) ... OR 'Whistle A Happy Tune and Kiss Your Ass Goodbye '! ... because a 'dead-stick’ landing was very iffy.

    Ha. I know the best glide speed on fighters of that era is somewhere between 120 and 150 miles per hour. The big propeller and blunt nose of a Corsair would likely make it glide like a stone. We are very lucky to see these magnificent airplanes in operation today. Thank you for your comment.

    I'm not a physics kind a person ,but seems like the prop should at Least have three blades given the size of the plane.

  • @P61guy61
    @P61guy612 ай бұрын

    They do look too short to me too. At takeoff rpm of 2250 revolutions per minute, the airflow at the blade tips is supersonic. That is why the airplane is so loud on takeoff. It is like cracking a whip. If the blades were longer and turned at 2250 rpm , the airflow would be at an even higher and less efficient speed. The resulting loss of efficiency is due to increased energy expended in creating more intense shockwaves on the blades. The prop length is tuned to the engines optimal rpm range. Thank you for your comment.

    What an awesome opportunity to hear those pilots tell their stories. It is amazing the amount of training and preparation that they went through to become Air Corps pilots. The T-6 was a vital part of that process. I miss the WWII veterans coming to the museum. Watching their reaction to being reunited with the airplanes they served in was priceless. They are mostly gone now but the airplanes hold on.

    You are absolutely correct. The main reason he is giving the signal is to warn anyone walking on the ramp that the aircraft is starting up. There was a PT-19, SNJ, P-63, P-51, FG-1, B-24, B-25, B-29, wildcat, Casa-131, and other aircraft operating at that show. With all those planes pilots and ground crews working, this is one of the many safety procedures employed. @@P61guy61 Hello from George again. I forgot to ask did you guys restore or built it? Either way it's a great Aircraft one of the many best of WWII.I love many of those Aircraft. Oh how much I would love to see face to prop and wings so to speak. It would be an experience. I've been to about four Airshows here in Australia but don't remember ever seeing a Corsair. I've touched a Skyhawk and was able to photograph as much as possible also a F18 Hornet. There's more but this message will become a Bible. I'm a modeller just average and I have so many models of the Corsair one that has the s checkerd markings on cowling and tail just like in this video. Sometimes I look up who the pilots were. That's how I know of Major Gregory "Pappy" Boyington and the "Black Sheep Squadron" and I do have decals to do that version. By the way if ok to ask all Navy and Marine Aircraft what is the overall blue colour? With models it seems to be all kinds of colour suggestions. So is it Sea blue or Midnight blue? Excuse this long message but it's amazing speaking to actual Aircraft people. I can't even begin to imagine the feel of flying that great Corsair Hot Rod. I thank you for replies I'm grateful. And it's a pleasure. Keep em' Flying!. If my fortunes can change if love to visit.Hope to speak again. God bless. George from down under Melbourne Victoria Australia. 👍🇭🇲🦘🐨✌️❤️

    My pleasure! I have an extra 504 that I bought just for parts. They are hard to find just about anywhere the country. This is especially true for the Diesel version. I had an older gentleman tell me they were too small for a commercial farm and too big for a hobby farm. He also said they were also hard to start in cold weather if the battery is not strong and not popular with colder areas. Mine starts easily but you need to hold the glow plugs for about 30 full seconds when it is cold and then again for a few seconds once it starts
