    I have a question regarding time-stretch: I always thought Reason had a very good algorithm for this task. But what do YOU (or anyone reading this) recommend as the superior time-stretching program (or programs)? TYIA and happy music-making.

    One thing I will say is that the new “F9” browser should at-least be able to drag to a 2nd screen. It’s huge and in the way of the instruments. I would love an option to revert to the classic browser. Kind of getting use to it now tho lol. Yielding. Respectfully.

    I use Reason 12 as a VST in Cubase daily. Haven't opened the DAW version in a long, long time. Reason 13 doesn't interest me at all, because the new DAW changes don't matter to me, the utilities don't matter to me, and the two new devices aren't enough to justify a $199 upgrade price tag. Extremely bad value proposition. When I think of all the things they could have done in the 3 years since Reason 12 dropped and didn't, it makes me head hurt. If they did a mid-cycle update and added a couple more cool devices and gave a voucher for a free RE or something, I'd be pushed over the line to buy Reason 13. I don't see them doing that, though. If they updated Recycle to modernize it (to compete with Serato Sample in every way, Stem Separation, gave it a dark theme) and added it to Reason as a device, and it could edit and print stems to Cubase from the Rack plugin, I would buy a Reason upgrade for sure. I'll probably buy Objekt this fall, so they'll get at least some money from me this year. But I feel like they're running out of ideas and aren't very motivated to achieve greatness anymore.

  • @sdotlaw75

    Everything they upgraded was useful but should have been free update. To come out with a new version with these small upgrades was not a flex for reason. Development should focus on some sort of hardware device that compliments the software. That would change the game and put them in an arena to compete again. I have mpc and maschine and they are both easier and more fun to work with . Imagine pulling up reason synths mixer and devices on a dedicated device 😮.

    Reason's updates always tend to feel small compared to other DAWs. Browser is a nice new feature but it feels like baby steps. Compared to Ableton which have bigger minor releases than Reason's major releases. It feels like they cant keep up with updates fast enough.

    I've been trying a variety of DAWs since the 90's, but me and many people i know have been hardcore Reason users and advocates since versions 10 or 11. But the move to R13 has made me scurry back to Ableton and FL Studio with my tail between my legs. . Firstly, while the new synth might be great, between what Reason already has, and my ever growing collection of third party plug-ins, another synth is not what i need. If anything, i need to loose a few! So between that one synth, and the couple of new utilities, calling this a whole version upgrade is a bit much from my point of view. Yes, i was looking forward to trying a different delay and ducking device, but that's hardly worth the price alone, is it? . Because there's that pricing. For anyone new to Reason, whose grown up in this age of endless subscriptions, £20 a month for the full, better, constantly updated version with far more devices and all of the perks is just a no-brainer. Go for it, i probably would if i was you now. But some of us paid huge sums back when ownership meant something (between my initial purchase, the upgrades since, and random extras from the online store i must have spent at least £800 on Reason so far). And we did so because the standard at the time was that we would then pay a much lesser amount to stay up to date with every new version. But Reason are doing their best to kill off that old model, with nothing but a callous attitude to those of us who put them where they are now. . I was a bit late with the upgrade to 12, so i had nobody to blame but myself when it cost me a little more. But trying to upgrade to version 13 on the first day of sale i was asked for £200!! It's no coincidence that this is also the same price as paying for a years subscription up front, where you get two months for free, and many more instruments and effects. Reason know exactly what they did there, and many long term users that have learned all the shortcuts and have their life's work in Reason format now feel like they are over a barrel (with their pants down). . Not only that, but because of a sudden rush of work, one friend of mine tried to upgrade to version 12 just two weeks before 13 went on sale, and they still tried to charge her £500. Remember, this is someone who's already paid £500, and is now being asked for that amount again for the ''not as good as the £20 a month'' version, just 2 weeks before 12 became old!! So she felt like she had no choice but to bite the bullet, pay for the subscription, forget about older payments / ownership / being treated with respect, and just got on with her work trying to ignore the bitter taste in her mouth. . When i contacted Reasons help i suddenly realised just how often i've had to do that as a Reason user. I don't recall ever having to contact the makers of any other DAW about a problem, not once. And when i have contacted Reasons help it's only about 50% of the time that they actually have helped, or even been able to. At least twice i feel i've just been met with snarky comments. On this occasion i was just told to try the subscription, or check back through the year for sales. . For those that can't understand my anger at the new business model , imagine you are buying something else, like a car. Imagine you've agreed a price and paid, but on your way out you notice the next customer get offered a far nicer version of the same car that you just bought, but they are only asked a tiny fraction of what you paid. Wouldn't you feel disrespected? . To put this all into perspective, at roughly the same time as all this was going on (or maybe just a few weeks before) i did contact Ableton about possibly buying an older version for an older i-Mac i had sitting around. And Ableton just flat out said ''have one on us'' and GAVE me £350 worth of software for free. Also at the same time, FL have been giving out free updates for quarter of a century. Yes, they have just added a subscription for some extras as well. But that cost me £35 for a year (not a month, a year) to try some features that, putting it bluntly, p*** all over Reason 13. . Apart from music, i am also interested in consumer rights, and privacy and security in tech. And there's aspects to Reason 13 that give me pause for thought on all counts. And any company that can change it's terms and conditions long AFTER sale (as Reason did recently with an older version) needs to be avoided anyway. I'm not even sure that's legal. And if you are sat there laughing at all this and thinking that you made the right choice with your subscription, are you 100% certain that a company that acts like this now won't find a way to dick you over eventually? . Suffice to say, i'm one of those people that have moved on from Reason. And for anyone thinking of getting their first DAW, i would say to try Waveform or Reaper first. If you don't get on with either of those then you won't be out of pocket. And if you do like either then you'll never be tied to one operating system again as they work on all platforms. You're welcome. .

    From what I'm seeing R13 upgrade is not worth it. The floating browser and new tools look cool but there's no major change worth upgrading for. I'll stick with R12 for now. Still no midi outputs for VST3s or compatibility with Izotope RX. The stock Scale and Chords player is cool but the midi sequencer needs some serious updating so ghost notes or importing scales can be easy like I see in other DAWs.

    For me the answer was simple, Reason 12 is missing many things I would like, but it has what I need, far more so than any other daw. I can practically use it blindfold, I dont have to think about how to do something, it's simply innate at this stage. That workflow is absolute Queen and no amount of tech innovation in other daws will make me depart from it. Sadly that includes Reason 13 as well.

    Nice video explanation. I’ve been using Reason since ‘03. They came a long way from there. I would love to see them focus more on their mixer and audio editing. We all see it’s a “SSL” style eq. Let’s add a bit analog saturation or warmth in the mixer. I like Audiomatic but another tape reel option is needed with Reason. I would definitely pay for an upgrade if they focused on the sonics of the DAW. It’s not bad now, but we are at version 13! We need to get there. I want to do one stop shop but I guess I have to go to another DAW to do more in-depth audio editing.

  • @KickbackCouture
    @KickbackCouture7 күн бұрын

    Adding to the mixer would be amazing. If they read this comment, maybe they can introduce the ability to swap mixer emulations. They could add more modern versions as well. That way we could control sonicality. Effects chains are extremely popular.

    @@KickbackCouture Especially affect chains from well known producers that use Reason. Imagine choosing settings by Ian Kilpatrick, Skrillex, Dr. Dre, DJ Mustard, deadmau5, etc., for startup mix templates. I do hope they see this comment. I really feel if they focus more on the sonics, mixing and mastering. The other DAWs will probably get jealous. Lol! We all know that Reason is doing numbers with these synths! They have that in the bag. Now let’s take that same focus of the character and sonics of the synths to the mixer. Let’s get some dope preamps going at the gain. API, NEVE, and SSL SuperAnalog-like styled preamps. Color is definitely needed.
