    Magnet to hold the bracket up on the bolt? Absolute genius. And putting a weight on top of the bolt heads to hold them down for you while you get under the truck... Making work easier for yourself at every turn. Great vid

    do you still have it, how well is it holding up. im actually going to look at one similiar layout but it has the smooth aluminum sides... how did it perform in the the winter. decently insulated?

  • @RebelCowboysRVs
    @RebelCowboysRVs6 ай бұрын

    Yep, I still have it. The only issues I have had is leak damage around the vents an tank vents. And the previous owner screwed that ladder in to the roof causing a leak. That rubber roof tape fixed the leaks. Replacing those inside panels is a pain so I haven't done it. I have had it down to around 5 degrees an a single 1500 watt space heater could keep it well above 80 if I wanted. The roof has half inch foam board between the plywood an inside panels. I would guess the walls have at least that too. I bought fuzzy pillow plugs for the roof vents though. You loose a good bit of heat out of them. Not sure about the plumbing in the cold though. I drain it for cold weather. Its all enclosed but that makes it hard to fix if it does freeze. So I dont take chances. The windows being single layer might start to be an issue if you get down below zero. But they haven't for the temperatures I have been in. Real happy with it.

    You were very luck on that one! Me and the wife centerpunched a big buck up on the Blue Ridge parkway a few years ago and it did $3500 worth of damage to my bike. Nothing could have prevented it as he jumped off a bank into the road and I hit him just as he touched down on the road. I was on the brakes but didn't notice if ABS had kicked in, probably did. Luckly, we didn't come off the bike and we were able to ride the 300 miles back home on a crippled bike.

  • @RebelCowboysRVs
    @RebelCowboysRVs7 ай бұрын

    @@justkeepgoing Lived in these mountains my whole life an that is my closest call. I am pretty bad at framing video in camera, so the 360 saves me a lot of that. I can just do that in editing. But it makes for huge files an a lot more editing. Its not hard, but takes time. Even being bad at it, framing in a real camera is the better option. But I can get shots with the 360 that I would miss otherwise. Its worth having to set up an film things on the fly that you cant stop an rest a regular camera over an over. It lets you worry about what your doing, not the camera , an divert the framing of the shots till later. Set it up in the middle of the table at a big family dinner. Pulled great shots of everyone individually off it later. Its now my most used camera. I dont regret buying it. But I am always worried about dropping it an having to buy another one. lol

    In my search for a 5th wheel receiver, I'm noticing that they are made specific for certain trucks. My question then is if you use top mounted bed rails that are universal, then isn't it a moot point?

  • @RebelCowboysRVs
    @RebelCowboysRVs Жыл бұрын

    I am not aware of any truck you can't use a standard rail system on. Then you can use any hitch made for those rails. That being said, if a company makes a rail kit for your truck, it may be worth the money for time saved. And It looks like the rail system is becoming outdated. A lot of new trucks have what they call a puck system, where the hitch drops through holes already in the bed, locking to the frame directly. That started about 10 years ago. No need to drill more holes in your truck. I have no experience with those myself, but I think I would use that if my truck had them, and I could afford it. Rails are not usually in the way when not in use, but they can be at times. They also make adapters to use regular rail hitches in a truck bed with pucks. There have also been some specialty hitches for quite a while that don't use the rail system at all. It use to be easy to pick a hitch, an a good day's work installing it. It's starting to be the other way around. But I have never even touched anything other than a universal rail system. My truck is to old for anything else, an my wallet can't afford anything fancier.

    Great video looks good and well instructed. One recommendation I would make is to place it a little in front of the rear axle so it displaces weight not only on the rear axle but also more more on the front of the truck too. Typically when you install a goose neck or 5th wheel hitch on a truck you don't want the weight directly centered over the rear axle you want it just forward of the rear axle toward the cab. This provides a better balanced towing experience and helps prevent the front end of the truck from being lighter or lifting when hauling a heavy load because it places some of the load on the front of the truck as well.

    Do you think this all will apply to a 99 Chevy Silverado 6 foot bed 1/2 ton 4X4 to haul a 31 foot camper

  • @RebelCowboysRVs
    @RebelCowboysRVs2 жыл бұрын

    A sliding hitch is usually recommended for a 6 foot bed, for turning. Some of those have their own mounting system and some use regular rails like this. If you get one that uses rails, its pretty much the same installation. You can use a regular 5th wheel hitch, but you have to be careful to not get in to the back of your cab turning. A 31 foot trailer is also probably pushing the limits of a 1/2 ton truck, so make sure the trailer does not put you over weight, and the tongue weight is not more than the trucks payload rating.
