    Actually in terms of accuracy potential bout of this sight when I first sighted it in on my 12 gauge slug gun at 65 yards with an ammo my gun loves I printed a one hole group. A round hole with mouse ears for the other two shots. I was later able to make a softball sized 4 shot group at 115 yards with the same 12 gauge shotgun. Keep in mind your results may vary as I have a rifle accurate shotgun that I will never part with.

    Hi behindthetrigger, Love your content, quick question.. On you Sako finnlight stock, have you noticed the soft touch on your stock getting sticky at all? I'm interested in the sako finnlight but worried about what I'm reading online about the finnlight stocks getting sticky over time... Thanks for your time, hope to hear from you soon!

    Good question Paul. I do not know because I no longer have it, but I did recently pick up a shotgun with a rubber over mold that I have the same concern. It's brand new so its fine now, but time will tell. I also have a Zoom H4 sound recorder that suffers from the exact problem. I cleaned off the oily substance with acetone and that seems to have helped at least temporarily. My preference is old fashioned plastic for the reason you pointed out.

    Too much of a hassle to apply. After bedding about 60 rifles using different epoxies (JB Weld Original , Accra Glass, Devcon 10110, Pro-Bed 2000 and Marine Tex), I found the most easy to apply and effective release agent is two coats of Hornady One Shot Case Lube.

    That's an interesting suggestion. I have a Rem 700 on the bench that I'm planning to bed soon. I think I'll give that a try. I assume its best to let it dry between coats and before bedding so the Lanolin in the case lube solidifies.

    @@PracticalTacticalAccuracy - Yes, let it dry between coats. I should have provided a bit more details. Make sure the metal surfaces are completely clean and degreased before they are spayed. Apply the first coat with horizontal spaying stroke then with a vertical spaying stroke. Let dry for at least one hour. Apply a second coat this time with a diagonal spraying stoke. I have one of these in 7mm-08. Very accurate and basically a nice rifle. But, when you clean it, DO NOT use any type of degreasing cleaner. It will literally melt the stock. This is not a composite stock like on a Christiansen Arms rifle that will stand up to anything.

    Enjoyed both your reviews, sir. I am considering buying one to put on a light AR 10 in 308. It will see heavy pig cull use here in the South of Texas. I am wondering if the sight would stand up to the recoil and cycling motions that it would be subject to on the rifle? I am not sure whether I should buy this and use it for the relative simplicity of the design (and the competitive price, of course) or spend more and buy an Aimpoint instead? Both the rifle and the sight would see heavy and sometime rough use, and hence the questions. Thank you in advance for any advice that you may have for me. Best wishes!

  • @PracticalTacticalAccuracy

    I see no reason why it would not stand up to the recoil of a semi auto 308. I've been running it on a pump shotgun for quite a while now with no problems. It's a really simple system and quite robust.

  • @PracticalTacticalAccuracy

    Good question... You know, I never found it to be a problem. Lately I've been using it on my Mossberg 590 shotgun for skeet shooting. Its a standing joke at the skeet range where the guys who don't know me are always expecting me to shoot badly and start coaching me from the first station, but everyone laughs as they figure it out when I shoot as well as anyone there. The big advantage is there is no fixed field of view, so leading 5 feet on the middle station is not a problem like it is on a traditional red dot.

    Dont put anything in the scope mounts. Its dovetails, so you can loosen the two screws, and take the scope of, and put on another scope.You can shift scopes without any kind of sighting in again, as long as you have a set of rings for each of your scopes. It works just as well as Blaser mounts. On Sakos you just need an allen key.

  • @behindthetrigger142
    @behindthetrigger1425 жыл бұрын

    You are a little too inside the box for my taste Ken. Instead of viewing things only as they are, try seeing how they should be... The point of the taper is to allow the scope rings to become more tightly mounted as a result of recoil. That's why they get wider toward the front. Removing the pin at the rear base allows the bases to lock up on the taper. The shim is just there to align the real base with the ejection port for cosmetic reasons and to compensate for what I see as a design defect as the rear base should be machined to lock up on the taper in the correct location without the need for a stop in or shims. Furthermore the screw that holds the base to the rings is at best anemic so that's why the bases and rings were welded together. Its all about removing any possibility of movement.

    *I have no complaints except for the terrible factory packaging>>>**arah.in/XJLx** which lets the butt end of the stock flop in the box around unsupported, levering against the barrel tip which is held in place with a piece of syrofoam. Check to see that the screw securing the barrel in place at the muzzle end of the stock are tight, or the barrel will move around and affect your accuracy. It takes a while to get used to the long trigger pull and non adjustable tension, but then it's darn accurate.*

  • @behindthetrigger142

    No other issues Dave, The 1100 is a justifiable classic. There’s lots of newer autos, usually lighter weight, but sometimes less weight does not help your shooting. Most trap guns are fairly heavy for a reason… you shoot better if the gun has a little weight to it… not that the 1100 is unreasonably heavy… just a nice practical weight that plays well in the field and on the trap field. As far as malfunctions go.. no problems to report. The choke tube comes loose and that drives me crazy with no good fix. I tried loctite plumbing adhesive and it did work, but it can harden up and make it difficult to remove. I’m tempted to use a lot of loctite and make it full choke forever.

    How is this better than just using both eyes with a regular red dot sight that you can actually see through? I feel like I can just leave the end cap on my tritium illuminated scope and it would be the same thing.

  • @behindthetrigger142
    @behindthetrigger1426 жыл бұрын

    Well good question Iriquois... I'm not saying its necessarily better or worse, but it is different in a way that has certain advantages. For one... no batteries... ever... The red dot is self calibrating to the ambient light level. The tritium filament has a half life of ten years and that's half good and half bad. Its good because you have 10 years not to worry about it and bad because once it dies you are really into a new scope for night time, but at least still perfectly useable during the day or twilight hours forever.I would be quick to accept that long term reliability of the OEG could outperform an electronic red dot. Electronic systems are probably more likely to fail than a purely mechanical system.... eventually.As for the difference between this OEG sight and an electronic laser red dot of your choice... number one is astigmatism... if you don't have it... great... if you do have it all electronic laser red dots suck for you. For a person with astigmatism the laser red dot may look like a clump of red yarn or several individual dots or even look like a commet. The OEG sight dot is clear and sharp for everyone much like a Mepro M21.Then there's the field of view... unlimited with OEG. What I have yet to confirm is a point of impact when using a red dot with a front lens cover. I suspect that a red dot will have a different zero when used in a look through config versus with a front cover and two eye condition. Id like to test that and prove it either way.This next point might be in left field for you depending upon how much of a prepper you consider yourself to be... Ever heard of an EMP or electro magnetic pulse. It can happen from a solar flare or high level Nuke and it will fry all electronics including an electronic red dot sight.... but not an Armson OEG or Mepro M21 because they are not electronic.

    Well.. it depends how hard you want to hit the tree on the other side of the animal.You seem to be a traditional hunter. Traditional is not technical... Many hunters use what the other guys use without analyzing why. Just because its popular does not mean it is ideal.I've been shooting competitively to 1000 yards for 20 years and hand loading for 40 years. Nothing we use at 1000 yards is a typical hunter load. We use high BC hollow point bullets and these target bullets actually perform much better than soft point hunting bullets... but that is not the whole story.But again... you keep going back to classing the cartridge for terminal performance with an apparent disregard for the projectile. Is the projectile that kills... not the case it was fired from.As I stated earlier its all about bullet performance and placement.Barrel twist rate s also a very important factor that most are not aware of.. fast twist rate is always better.BTW... and this will piss you off... I've been hunting deer with a 223.A guy like you would think that's inhumane but again... its because you don't understand how to configure the barrel and ammunition for that purpose.I've never lost a deer and no deer I shot with a 223 ran more than 10 yards.

Not to say that it couldn't happen, just that I've never seen it. I also have a Sako in 223 that I've fired thousands of rounds through and never had any sort of failure... Again it has the same Sako Optilock rings on it. I suppose if the rings were low enough, it might create that possible... if it was a problem, I'd probably try the next higher rings.
