I’m sorry you had to experience this kind of treatment…in the AF I worked with many women (on the flightline) who were phenomenal! Some better than the guys. It really is inappropriate to stereotype women in the military as being lazy or weak because it’s simply not true. Don’t get me wrong there are some women who really owned that stereotype and slacked off but guys do that too…all I’m saying is everyone should be treated equal especially our service members…we all signed up to serve our country in some way or another so let’s give each other the respect we deserve 🇺🇸

The fact that he didn't feel like he did enough because he didn't finish his deployment out,is just heart breaking. With that one injury,he did more than someone with multiple deployments under their belt who physically escaped unscathed.

For about a decade, I’ve been having trouble. The world just seemed so damn heavy. Hard. No matter what I did. But on the outside. You’d never know. I was the same old me on the outside. But I didn’t sleep, eat, night terrors for years. I’d go through these months of it then snap out of it for a brief time. The last time I just broke. Got home from work, normal day and something just hit me, I fell to the floor just weeping. Just in controllably and I don’t even know why. Nothing had happened to me. It was just like all these years pressure built up and it came out that day. Some of my friends it came out in another ways and they aren’t around anymore. Luckily, a private practice that the Va referred me to had called minutes after I got it together. She asked me questions, she asked if I’d been crying and why. I just said “idk, idk why, she said “I’m cancelling all my appointments tmrw, come in first thing in the morning. That day I started PTSD treatment. stem therapy and some other stuff as well and everything changed for me. Granted it’s something that I have to work at forever. Can’t get complacent or I’ll fall back into it. But in thankful for that lady.

Dude I know exactly how you Feel I did one deployment and only Made it 6 1/2 months and I had been in the military for 18 months when I got shot and then two years at Walter reed. We have the same story hit me up sometime

Damn almost the same day. I got shot Nov 9th 2007 ended up at Walter reed by mid to end of Dec I always feel like I didn’t do enough and the survivors guilt. I’ve had hip replacement cause I got shot through the pelvis and then the back of the helmet so I had brain surgery I wish I would have made it through the whole deployment and came home with my brothers

My Uncle was in the 82nd Airborne 505 and was wounded during the Battle of the Bulge. He never got over the trauma and suffered from PTSD the rest of his short life (heart attack at 53). I am so glad Wounded Warriors have mental health counseling and support today. Thank you Kerry Glennon for being human, vulnerable and sharing your story. You have my utmost respect. May God Bless!

Stop and think: the only organization that tracks veteran s**cide is the VA. I am an alleged peacetime veteran with noncombat PTSD. I get most of my healthcare outside the VA because they simply do not have enough women patients to know how to factor that into our care. I pay thousands in premiums and copays. Nobody tracks me like the VA. So, if all these veterans' s**cides are being counted, it pretty much means they were in the VA system -- and IT FAILED THEM.

Brother, I often times refuse to accept I have PTSD. I definitely do after my service, but it’s been so compromised as a term I don’t identify with it. You speak truth, but when some person in a college campus can say they have PTSD because of “trauma” (someone not agreeing with them) the actual trauma is being overlooked in replace of those who seek it vs fight it. PTSD is a real issue. People like to claim it nowadays like it’s all encompassing sadness. No. Actual PTSD is an issue not being addressed. It’s instead replaced with “oh I had a bad day once upon a time” It won’t be dealt with until we stop letting people claim PTSD and treat it properly with those who actually have it. I find it’s the vets who self treat it and watch while people who haven’t been through anything claim it and get unnecessary treatment for something they don’t have. Great for the drug companies.
