I started running in 1968. Tried other things, but always went back to trucking. As I said before, you had to be there to understand it!!! The truckers today don't have a clue!!!

I love Paul’s songs. Love this one. And yes I ran with many a driver who did this. I ran hard as any one of them But, I never did the drugs. Guys glorify this. Most on here probably didn’t even drive. Not downing the guys that did whatever to keep going. But not all of us had to. We had stamina. I’d run 36 hours or so many a time because an appointment was already made in New York and the beef was probably still in the yard alive and well out in the Midwest somewhere. Just saying, we had impossible times to be somewhere but were to stubborn and by god we were gonna make it on time. Dam meat packing plants had us sitting forever waiting on a load. My bull hauling buddies I knew had to run even harder cause you can’t have the cattle on the trailer forever. So they ran dam hard. Some I know did things to keep going. Some didn’t. I pulled bullracks for a few years off and on. My point is don’t think the ones who needed the tooter and line or other things were the only ones who ran hard. Also on another note, Momfort who was well known back in the day for fast trucks were well known because their were May of them. But make no mistake thinking that some of us owner operators back then couldn’t pass them. Cause we could. I had triple digit trucks. That part is easy. Also had the power to make any hill seem flat. But the hard running is hard on a guy. After 43 years of trucking I felt whipped. I think the first 15 years of so of running like a crazy man with little sleep caught up to me. Ran hard my whole career , but them first 15 or so all I did was take a lot of years off my life But we were wired liked that. A lot of us anyway. Get the job done. You take care
