    Unless arranged prior to leaving NZ to play outside NZ and be available for the All Blacks, (Eg, Barrett, Savea) None should be picked for the All Blacks. We should support those playing in NZ otherwise we’ll open a door for more players to exit NZ. Leaving NZ short on top level players with possible consequence’s of ending in a second tare Union.

    Love the wince by Wilson at 18:47. Wilson is absolutely right, Canterbury can make it because it's possible. The better question is will Canterbury make it/how likely do they think it is possible. The difference between the questions completely goes over Kirwan's head and he has no idea or he doesn't care. I think that's what Wilson's is wince was about.

    the fact that they all picked havili over quinn with those stats right in front of them is bizarre actually. havili is absolutely useless and there’s no point in having him in the squad just cause he can cover multiple positions when he’s mediocre at all of them. meanwhile in comparison tupaea is leading in carry metres and second behind anton in line breaks. just when i thought the obsession with average crusaders players was over, yet here we are.

    NZ has the depth. They’ve done it for years. Don’t change the rules to accommodate players leaving for the big paycheck and also lifestyle. Nz rugby will always be good. But players who leave, it could strengthen the island teams. Mounga playing for Samoa or Tonga would be insane!!! Rugby needs to elevate all nations. European rugby is getting incredibly entertaining thanks to Portugal and Georgia. 10 years time we may see new teams in the top 8. Here’s hoping.

    I am welsh so as my birth right i love rugby. I absolutely love this show & love super rugby but i often wonder if those of you in nz, aus & fiji realise how difficult sky make it for us to watch your competition? They show one live game at stupid o'clock on a saturday morning then we get the briefest of highlights...essentially just the tries...from 'SUPER RUGBY PACIFIC & TRC' on youtube & that’s it! The rugby played in this competition is like a different sport to the turgid, attritional rubbish we generally get in the northern hemisphere. The Hurricane's management will be quietly confident after what their side had to endure for this game. The late withdrawals alongside their injury list really put them under the kosh but there was no drop-off in performance or intensity. Their entire squad are producing top quality performances week in week out. Still think they're a better side than the Blues and that they'll get home final advantage.

    6:39 Imo NZ should emphasise quality over quantity. Less games, back to 12 rounds and 4 finalists. Even though it’s interesting to see who’s gonna make the final 8, when those quarter finals happen, they end up being one sided, predictable and pointless and another reason for fans to not bother. I also think Forbes is really slept on for the Blues. He’s been brilliant at fullback and him coming on for Sullivan was a blessing in disguise.

  • @jakeclough8090
    @jakeclough80908 сағат бұрын

    Nope, there’s this obsession with less games, you need more games. Some of the best fan-strong leagues, like the nrl as much as I despise it, or football in Europe like the premier league, have very long seasons. Even in rugby in Europe is from September to may. You need these longer seasons so the league and clubs are constantly in your mind, they become a part of your life and routine. Bin off the npc. You may have to sacrifice the prestige and tradition slightly but make it a second division tournament which runs at the same time as super rugby

  • @MarkWhippy
    @MarkWhippy7 сағат бұрын

    @@jakeclough8090 With NRL, it’s the main competition for Rugby League. They have a longer season for NRL, but they less genuine international competitions. So over saturation isn’t an issue for league at the moment like it is with Union. France are doing well with their rugby scene, but it’s actually struggling in the UK at the moment.

    Nah mate let Richie go. He created his legacy, a decent to good int. 10 with 56 caps. That's his legacy and whilst he will never be a great All Black, he was a good All Black. Lets keep the 10 jersey open for someone who wants to be a great All Black and is willing to make sacrifices to earn it. That's not to say you can't be both, look at Ardie Savea, an all time great All Black who has also earned money, but he always intended to come back and be a great All Black, he made sacrifices. We shouldn't be making huge financial sacrifices to buy players out of their overseas contracts when there are plenty of players here who have dreams of being great All Blacks and are currently making sacrifices to achieve this dream.

    The panel are some great rugby brains, but in all the discussion of the Canes v Blues, there was no mention of the Canes being down to their 4th and 5th hookers, and losing Lomax, Procter (Arguably 2 of their best players) and Delaney just prior to kickoff, having to re-jig the team, playing at Eden Park, and only losing by 4 points. Imagine if Moorby had not been bundled into touch. Yes the Blues won, but the average winning margin for the Blues at Eden Park for the last 2 years is 20 points. Winning by four is still a win, but these 2 teams are far closer than the panel seem to admit.

    They could have said the same when blues played down in Wellington earlier in the season as to how blues lost 2-3 backs within first 20 mins and Hoskins had to play wing but still blues were one try away from winning. Just because we haven’t been able to find suitable replacement of that level in the last 3 months doesn’t mean it’s end of the world. We have some very good players in the pipeline who with experience can get to that level. It is ridiculous NZR is trying to get them back. What message does it send to the current players? What does it do to their motivation and pathways to a black jersey?

    Yeah that was a bizarre non-sequitur from Wilson. Was just saying how the comp is stronger than it has been in recent years (despite a lot of ABs leaving) and then talks about the need to bring back star players. The fact that Super Rugby allowed fans to come onto the field offers a glimpse into what made the 90s and early 2000s Super Rugby different and so popular. There wasn't so much emphasis on celebrity rugby players who are untouchable, it was about creating connections between players (idols) and fans of all ages. That is the sort of stuff NZ has a unique advantage and possibility of having which other countries due to population cant. It creates connection, inspiration and adoration for the game.
